Where to Go?

I want to get a perspective of where you would want to hunt whitetails if you could pick one state. We'll make this like a game of sort. You have a Golden Tag that will allow you to pick any state in the Lower 48 to hunt during the 2007-08 season. Where would you pick to go and when would you want to hunt? And don't forget to tell us if you would pick a bow, rifle, muzzleloader, or a shotgun.

This should be a good one. Oh yeah, you don't have to worry about the money thing either, it's covered with the Golden Tag.

As far as where to hunt whitetails, it would definately be in Kansas. When??? During the rut when David Blanton is up in a tree just down the ridge from me, experiencing all that God has given us to enjoy. Most likely, a bow in hand would be my top choice. The opportunity of fellowship would outshine the harvest. "Dreams do come true...if you ask you know who."

    iowa, archery!

I would go to Ohio in November with my bow.

  4. # Anonymous shane

Simple answer, Kentucky. Bow is the wepon of choice, and the week is the 3rd thru the 9th of november. This is prime time rut activity and the week before gun season, so the deer have not ben presured to much by the sudden increase of hunters in the woods that gun season brings. I have taken this week off for the last three years and it has produced three wall hangers.

If I had to choose a state to hunt whitetail it would be Illinois, during the rut, with archery equipment.

  6. # Anonymous HGMII

I think I would definately have to go to the midwest. Probably Iowa or Illinois in the first week or two of November with a bow. I've never hunted the midwest and would love to do so.

    Hey David,
I would go like I did last year to Bow hunt SE Kansas,
whitetails, the week of Nov 14-19, fight the wind, elements and all I seen were big bucks. Shot a 154" (non-typical 17 pt) 6 yr old. Or only other choice would be the Milk River never had the opportunity always wanted to go. Bow would be my preference or th TC Prohunter if necessary. Going to be a Great Blog. Thanks! Craig Dilbeck (Dalton, G.A.)

i would have to say kansas during the rut with my bow

  10. # Anonymous Anonymous

This is an easy one. Illinois is the ticket. I have hunted successfully there with a bow before but would love to hunt there with a smokepole. Big bucks, no wammies.

Man I would pick going to the Milk River with a bow during the rut. It just seems like that trip is always one of y'alls best every year. It would be awesome to go up there and with you and Waddell and the whole bunch just to see what it's like, let alone get to hunt it. I guess i'll keep dreamin!

Man I would go to the Milk River with a bow during the rut. It seems like yall have an awesome time up there. My dream hunt would be up there with you, Waddell and the whole bunch. The Milk River clips are always my favorite to watch. I guess I'll just keep dreaming!

    David,
If I was lucky enough to draw the lucky tag and could hunt whitetails anywhere in the states it would without a doubt be Montana. I have watched you and other Team Realtree member's hunts there and daydream of hunting there one day myself, and I would like to hunt wih my bow. Going to Montana and getting a buck with my bow would be awesome! Mabey one day!

    David,
Do I have to pick just one place? So many great places...TX, KS, Canada.. If just one..Southeastern Iowa is my choice. I would bowhunt the first 2 weeks of November. Pray for cold weather. Will need someone to work for me and grandmom to stay with Laura and the kids, so I don't have to be in a hurry to get home. You think you can make this happen? A hardwood ridge between a corn field and a clover field will do. Had my chance at a monster 2 years ago and blew it. can't wait to get back up there.

    David,

I would choose Pennsylvania. The PA Game Commission instituted an antler restriction a few years back and the quality of the deer are becoming fantastic. I would also choose a bow as my tool to harvest the whitetail!!!!

    Tom--Northern PA!

Man if I could go anywhere this year it would be to the Milk River with you and Waddell and the whole crew, bowhunting the rut. That would be my dream hunt. It seems like yall have a blast up there and the clips from those hunts are always my favorite. I guess I'll just keep dreamin!

I'd stay right here in the southern half of my great state of illinois. Put me in a tree with a bow in hand during the first week of november.

  18. # Anonymous Mason M

    David,
If i had the chance to use the "Golden Tag", I would probably use it in Iowa during the pre-rut. Iowa is known for producing some monsters and i feel like i would have the best chance of being successful there at this part of the season. And i would most definately use my Hoyt!

has to be TEXAS, DOUBLE M R RANCH!!!! in the rut, with my new hoyt.

Wow so many choices, how about buffalo county wisconsin, Pike county Illinois, or the milk river, but since your paying ill let you decide which one. definitely, with bow and how about the first week of november, 34 degrees, partly cloudy, hunting over a buck decoy on the edge of an alfalfa field. I can see im not going to get a whole lot of work done today. Thanks David, you just had to ask.

    Scott (Michigan)

  21. # Anonymous Anonymous

The Midwest is the place to be during the rut. My first choice would be Iowa with a bow - probably the first 2 weeks of November!

    Pete from Wisconsin

David, I would love to take my bow and hunt Montana. I have always wanted to see the state and to bow hunt big whitetails would be an added bonus.

  23. # Blogger Chuck

I hunt Pike county every year during the rut with a bow and thats a great hunt, but one golden tag it would probably be Iowa rut bow hunt or Arizona-New Mexico Elk bow hunt or ram.

  24. # Anonymous Tyler B.

I would have say kentucky either in the hills of eastern KY or the farmland of the western and northern. I hunted here for more than 10 years now and i've seen and killed some monster bucks. The best time is durning the rut, usually the first two weeks in Nov. and definitely either my old trusty 30.30 or my 30-06

  25. # Anonymous Gregory Adam Reed in MO

I'd have to say I'd like to be in Iowa. It sure seems like Lee and Tiffany Lakosky shoot some really big deer there. I'd like to be there some where around the first week of November. I'd have my bow in hand ready to let an arrow fly into the boiler room. The best part of this hunt would be that I would be hunting with the REALTREE crew.

  26. # Anonymous David Vest

    David,
If I had the great chance at the golden tag, i would most definately go to the Milk River, Montana with my Mathews.

  27. # Anonymous Anonymous

david, being from Texas I cannot stray. There is no better place to hunt big whitetails that in South Texas with a Bow. I must say that since I live in East Texas that South Texas is just as much a dream for me as Iowa or Montana is for some.

    Brian, Texas

  28. # Anonymous David Vest

    David,
If I had the chance to pick anywhere to go with the golden tag, I would definately go to the Milk River,Montana during the pre-rut with my Mathews bow.

    David,
I would probably go to the Milk River or Texas and hunt with you, Michael Waddell and Bill Jordan. With a bow during the rut. My dream is to hunt for Realtree all over the US and Canada.

It would be easy to pick Iowa or Illinois, but I am looking forward to hunting some monsters in Minnesota, and North Dakota this year.

    David,

I have hunted the Halff Brothers ranch in South Texas for 3 years and it is awesome! However, if I could choose any place it woould also be Southeastern Iowa at the start of Muzzleloader season. Let Dr. Reid know I wish him luck this year.

I did a bit of (unrelated) research in SE Iowa so i've seen the goods they're offering. However, I think I would just stay were I'm at here in Texas. Good friends, food, family and always a good time. As far as weapon of choice, I'd use anything from an army tank to a rock, whatever is available.

    Happy hunting.

Either Iowa or Illinois with a Bow.

David, thats a tough one, but I would have to hunt during the rut in Iowa. I would bring my Mathews fx2. Killed 2 awsome deer in Ilinois and Kansas, but never drawn an Iowa tag. Maybe one day I'll get lucky!

  44. # Anonymous Jesse Althouse

    Dave,
I would have to say Tioga County Pennsylvania, with my Matthews, around October 25th. Big woods and open grasslands collide to produce some exciting action.

I'm a Canadian, and have never hunted whitetails anywhere in the USA, so if I had a "Golden" Tag, I'd opt to hunt with you, where-ever that might be.

Wish ya'll would do more hunts down here also.

My golden tag would take me to Montana. This year is going to be my first season hunting with a bow, and if I could pick anywhere, to break in my bow it would be there. Early bow is two months away and I am already gettin' the fever.

    David,

Hands Down no contest, hunting Iowa with the Kisky's. Don and Candy have harvested a ton of shall we say MONSTER BUCKS and they continue to do this year after year. I would say surley during the chasing stage of the Rut, and of coarse with the Mathews!

    David Blanton,
My dream hunt would have to be in Montana with You or Waddell. Iv watched you guys take some massive bucks up there. And its not like texas the deer weigh more and have more antler mass. I would use a bow. I'v been bow hunting for 2 years and have yet to pull the triger on a nice buck im waiting for that muy grande. Im hunting in missouri this year and iv seen some nice ones so we'll see what happens.

With my golden tag I would definately choose to hunt the Ohio River bottoms in Southeast Illinois with my Mathews in hand and during the second week of November. My grandad just bought a place in S.E. Illinois and I can't wait to try it out!!

  66. # Anonymous Luke, TN

    David,
I would be in West Central Kentucky with a bow during the first week of November. I've only been able to hunt there on the weekends since its 150 miles each way from my college, but I've seen most of my P&Y class deer during this week.

  67. # Anonymous Dennis, KY

    Dave,
Tell you the truth i've only hunted in 2 states west central Ky and eastern PA. There are great deer in pretty much every state you just got to know where they are. But from watching the shows and hunting in both states I would stay right here in Ky. I have seen many Big bucks taken from my area without food plots and ranches just public hunting grounds. So i would stay right here close to home.

  68. # Anonymous Dennis, KY

    Dave,
I would stay right here in KY. In the peak of rut with my 30-06. I've seen and taken some good bucks here that would make any hunter's heart beat out of there chest. No ranches no food plots just good old fashion hunting.

  69. # Anonymous Anonymous

Iowa!!! A lot of nice bucks out there! The bow and 50. Cal would be my choice in the treestand. I would love to get that chance one day David!!! I hunt here in Virginia and love it as well!!!

I'd like to kill a mature buck in the Adirondacks. A New York nonresident tag is not difficult to get or anything, but that is where I'd be heading. And I'd be carrying my lovely old Savage 99 featherweight rifle.

David, this will be a good blog; thanks for taking the time.

New York deer tags are not hard to get, but I'd still head to the Adirondacks for my destination. A mature Adirondack buck is my holy grail of deer hunting. I would take my old Savage model 99 featherweight rifle. Perfect fit for a hunt up there.

State would not matter to me as long as I had my bow and time in the woods. Successful or not that doesnt matter althought when you are its and added bonus. Oh yeah did I mention doing it with the realtree crew would be an added bonus.

David, I live in the mountain state West virginia. I watch you and micheal on tv every saturday morning. I enjoy the things you do.I would like to hunt In pike county Illinois. I would love to hunt those big old corn fed bucks of Iowa or the Milk River bucks of Montana. I would take my 308 instead of my bow, since I have not killed a deer with it as of yet, but there's a first time for everything!! Keep up the good work David.
