The Other Fall Excitement

You know one thing I LOVE about huntin’ season? College Football!
You see, around here all of us are die-hard college football fans, and this year the excitement is unbelievable. I mean, how many times is a TOP 5 team going to be upset?
Once again, it has been proven, the Southeastern Conference is the TOUGHEST conference in the land!
The Blanton's are huge Georgia Bulldog fans, and this weekend we line up against our arch rival, the Florida Gators. I’m calling for one of the biggest upsets of an already mind boggling season!
I’ll have you know that I called the upset of Florida by the Auburn Tigers. I called my buddy, Coach Hugh Nall, offensive line coach at Auburn a few days before the game and told him that I KNEW they would beat Florida!
Let’s not talk about the bold predictions that didn’t go exactly the way I envisioned.
It simply does not get any better than coming in from a great day of hunting, settling down in front of the television and watching another “down to the wire” battle between two SEC teams.
We also like to see a game in person. A few weeks ago the entire Blanton clan and a couple of girlfriends went to Athens to watch our Bulldogs dismantle the Ole Miss Rebels, Bill’s school.
Bill insisted on betting lunch on the game, but he wanted too many points. As it turned, out I should have taken him up on it.
Deer huntin’ and college football...they go together like Waffle House and turkey hunting.
What about you? Who’s your team? Behind the Southeastern Conference, who do you think plays the best football in the land?

Roll Tide! that says it all. I think the next best conference top to bottom is a close call between the Big 12 & the ACC. No better footbal anywhere than the god ole SEC.

Hey David,
I couldn't agree with you more about hunting season and college football, too bad they both happen at the same time.
I'm a hugh Gators fan and know the Gators will take care of UGA as usual.
I hope you have a great season and remember, "Hunt like your hungry"!

David,
I've been a loyal realtree fan for years. All of my family still reside in the Chatanooga and Atlanta areas so there are some mixed views but all I can say is GO VOLS! (hopefully next year with a new coach)I may be reaping a little bit though since I live in the middle of LSU country. Anyway, long live whitetail hunting and SEC football.

There has been a ton of upsets this year!! But one team not to overlook is the good ol Oklahoma Sooners!! Boomer Sooner!!

AMEN to the SEC. There isn't any other conference better in the world. Sorry David but my LSU Tigers, well what can I say. Anyway, Take Care and enjoy the season. Oh by the way, HEY Alabama, Nick Saban WHO?

Nice comments David. Its hard to catch the game and hit the woods. My 'clan' are Hokie fans. We had a big upset this weekend. Not only did VT lose but I missed a real nice buck too. My 3 year old told me that night, "Daddy thats okay, next time shoot monster buck." Just goes to show you there are ups and downs in both football and hunting.

David,
I am a huge realtree fan and enjoy watching all of the videos. I am a diehard Virginia Tech fan and the ACC is having a down year overall but usually it is a very strong conference.
As bad as I hate to say it, the SEC is definetly the best conference in college football. If you can go undeafeted in the SEC you deserve to win the national championship.
Good luck this season and keep all of the great hunts coming!!

My wife and I are both Ohio State Universuty grads, so to us, it doesn't get any better than OSU Football! I believe the record speaks for itself, and Jim Tressel is a tremendous coach! I record all the games so I can watch the ones I miss at night while I'm on stand.
David,
I love the Bulldawgs too. They creamed the Gators this weekend. To bad that hunting and football season are at the same time because I never get to watch the game, I always hear who won. Talk to ya later.
God Bless & Good Huntin'

I have a UGA realtree hat that I bought while attending UGA in 1993....I had to staple the back together becuase I have worn it out.
Go Dawgs!!!!
As a die-hard West Virginia Mountaineer fan, I love the SEC and the Georgia Bulldogs!! They have been good to us the last few years. Looks like there could be a rematch in the Sugar Bowl this year!

David,
I could not agree with you more about college football. As for us it is all about LSU but we do cheer for all sec schools, as long as they are not playing LSU at the time. The SEC is the best conference in the country top to bottom. But (as much as I hate to say it) I will say that the pac 10 is closing the gap.

Hi David,
Yes, GO DAWGS in the fall! We are still avid fans as well. What an awesome season the Dawgs had with Richt as their leader... (with a couple of exceptions, of course :) Being in Jax for the "celebration" was certainly awesome, but the electricity that flowed in Sanford during the AU BLACKOUT was beyond belief.
Any chance you and the family will be attending the Sugar Bowl? We (Gene, Margaret, Patrick-14, and Katie-12) will be making it a family trip. If you are there, we sure would like to catch up and let the young Smiths meet the young Blantons at Cafe Du Monde (or somewhere) before or after the game.
God Bless and Go Dawgs!!!
P.S. Has it really been almost 29 years since you were playing round-ball at Bacon County High School? ;) lol Any of the boys following in your footsteps?

Hi David,
I think I took you to your first UGA game. A couple of weeks ago I ran into someone in Perry that was going to a high school playoff gmae. I asked if he knew you and he said he attended the same church (he was something to do with the school board). He mentioned that your Dad passed away this summer. If this is true I know that it will be a different holiday for you and your family. Merry Christmas and may God Bless you with the many great memories that the magic of christmas creates. Oh and "Go Dawgs". Any chance we can "white out christmas this year"?
We enjoy your show,
Gene Smith
David,
