What About Southern Winds?

Where Do I Hang the Stand?

A Big Mistake!

The “Realtree Outdoors” episode that aired yesterday (July 15) on ESPN2 was one of my favorites that will air the entire year. Why? Well, it was virgin country for the Realtree cameras and the action was unbelievable!

John Tate and I were hunting with Rich Birdsell, of Northern Rockies Outfitters, and I can assure you that the place Rich has to bowhunt in north-central Montana was awesome! A true bowhunter’s paradise!

The first afternoon that I hunted, after waiting for the wind to be favorable, I slipped down into a creek bed, quietly hung my stand and proceeded to watch close to 30 bucks parade by me before I arrowed a gorgeous 141” 10-pointer right at dusk. John Tate followed it up a few days later with his very first Pope & Young buck, a massive 10 pointer grossing about 135”.

This is the same place I visited a couple weeks ago to hang stands for the upcoming hunt there this fall. Also, a couple of video blogs have been posted from out there as well, and we still have a few more to come.

I was pumped about the response Rich would get from the airing of the television show. Bowhunters, I knew, would absolutely fall in love with this place!

But guess what? Rich did not receive a single phone call!

Why?

Inadvertently, one digit was transposed wrong at the end of the show. In other words, the WRONG number was given for Northern Rockies Outfitters! How embarrassing is that?
You don’t even want to know!

Well, we got hammered here at Realtree.com from hunters who wanted to talk to Rich. So here it is, the CORRECT number: (406) 756-2544.

Sorry, we’ll do better. Thanks for watching!

The Ladies Swing a Big Stick!

Yesterday was the big day for fans of “Realtree Outdoors.” Personally, I know several friends of mine who woke up Sunday morning, fixed a big ol’ cup of coffee and settled in for the NEW season of hunting shows. No more all-morning-long fishing shows on ESPN2.

From what I gathered (I was on the way home from Montana where I’d been hanging stands for my October bowhunt [see my next blog]) things started off just fine with some hunting action and, well, have you ever heard the sound of a muzzleloader when it doesn’t fire?

A click, a little smoke, then nothing.

That’s how the Realtree Sunday morning Hunting Camp went. Up in smoke! Why? Well, it seems there were some delays with the third round of the LPGA U.S Open golf tournament that had to be continued early Sunday morning before the final round and ESPN decided to pick up the coverage for a couple of hours. INSTEAD OF HUNTING SHOWS!

What is this world coming to?

The world got to see birdies being shot instead of caribou being shot. For all I knew, “Realtree Outdoors” never aired on Sunday and I assumed that this Sunday would, again, start the kick-off of “Realtree Outdoors.” But as I sat in my office this morning meeting with Bill, I received a text from Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts, my guest on the first show, and he said he saw the show and it was awesome!

What?

After a quick phone call to our buddies at ESPN, they filled us in on the scoop. “Realtree Outdoors” aired on ESPN2 Sunday afternoon sometime. They said they will look at the ratings from yesterday’s airing and determine whether or not to re-air the show again next week.

Very frustrating, especially when press releases are sent out and video promos are created announcing the start of the brand new season!

Hang in there! We’ll get it straightened out.

At least we didn’t get preempted because of a badminton tournament, but then again, don’t they slam birdies around too?
