Bowhunting Equipment for This Fall

Just got through meeting with T-Bone and he is going to give my bows a “once over” and make sure they’re ready for the summer shooting program and the fall which will be here quicker than you think.
Here is the setup I’m going to shoot this fall:
BowTech Guardian 68 lbs 29” draw
BowTech General – going to give this one a try but with me being 6’2” with a long draw length, TBone feels like I’m going to like the Guardian better. I sure liked it last year. A bunch!
G5 Optix XR sight – really looking forward to the “floating pin” below the 3 fixed pins, and the light is really cool
G5 Expert II Rest – Going to try this rest even though it doesn’t have the “full capture” feature like the UltraRest does which is the rest I’ve shot for years. We’ll see. I like the looks and the mechanical motion of the Expert II but I’ll just have to see how the arrow reacts to really fast, quick draws.
Easton Full Metal Jacket – This is another change I’m making. I’ve shot the SuperSlims for years but Easton no longer makes these so T-Bone has suggested the Full Metal Jackets.
3” QuickSpin Vanes
125 grain G5 Striker Broadheads. I just like the heavier broadhead especially for elk hunting.
Stanislowski Release
The NEW Octane Quiver from Bowtech – now this is an awesome concept! The covered hood of the quiver is magnetized and securely holds broadheads or fieldtipped arrows.
Octane Stabilizer from BowTech
I believe this setup will be my QUIETEST ever and I’m all about quietness. I should shoot around 265 fps which is faster than I can run.

Faster than you can run? But just by a sliver, I bet, huh? :)
Hey David,
Welcome back. It sounds like your set-up is going to be really good. Let us know what ya thought of the new set-up. Talk to ya later.

Cool deal. Sounds like you are in good hands with T-bone. That is pretty cool letting us know your set-up. I noticed Bill was shooting a Hoyt on the Monster Bucks Archery Shoot. He seemed to shoot really well with it. Can you give us an insight on his set-up too?
I am still messing around with my set-up. I use the summer to experiment. This year I am trying the 3" blazer vanes. I am not sure if I like them as much. But I have not shot them with broadheads on yet. I am thinking about trying some of G5's broadheads. I have shot Crimson Talons the past two years and love them. It is hard to try different things when you find one that works really well. I like the resharpening appeal of the G5 products. Crimson with its curved blades makes it difficult for me to sharpen the blades. Got to have sharp blades.
I will probably be shooting Gold Tips 7595 with 100 grain heads. I will be trying their carbon/aluminum arrows too. I think I will like them just for the spine, especially for hunting. I have two bows I have in my arsonal; a mathews switchback, and an old Diamond Recon (pre bowtech) which I have modified and upgraded with different limbs and cam. It is one of them bows that I have become attached to and can't seem to take it out of the line up.
Good Luck with your summer shooting practice, remember aim small - miss small.

The general may not be the fastest bow out there but it is very very quiet
If you like the guardian then you will like the general, not the fastest bow but very very quiet!!
Hey David, I was wondering why you changed from a mathews to a bowtech.

yeah I bought that same sight this year, Did you figure out a good way to mark the yardage for the floater? just by hand with a pen? Ive been tryin to figure out the best way to do it with out it rubbin off.
Well I finally did it, I called ben at timberland and booked a hunt.I got lucky and he still had one open for this year because somebody had canceled. My hunt starts nov 2 I cant wait. I have been wanting to go here for 3 years now! And ill be there during the rut!

Good luck this year! I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the bow hunts as well as the gun and muzzleloader hunts. I would really like to send you a pic of a 150 B/C I took here on my property back in 2004. This was a awsome deer for this area and was on 4 1/2years on. Jason Workman, Troutman, NC.
Has anyone seen the inovative products from a company called Waynes Wicked Enterprises? I used their Magic Dust last year and was blown away. It is a glow-in-the-dark powder that allows you to check the wind/thermals in no/low light. It has many other uses like making your feathers glow, range finding, mark blood trail, I even put it in a scrape and tracked the movement of deer. I recovered a nice buck because of the Magic Dust, more importantly I found my way back to my stand at night by using the same blood trail I made by sprinkling the glow-in-the-dark powder. They have a website www.wayneswicked.com that has videos showing the Magic Dust and their other very cool products. A buddy of mine said he has the Rifle Reel and it is the best inovation in gun straps he's seen in the last 40 years. I saw it at our Hunter's Safety course 2 weeks ago. I will definitely be getting one before the muzzleloader/firearm season. These guys are serious about safety and cool products!
just wanted to pass it on! Good luck this year!
