Let's Kick It Off....

(AND I’M NOT TALKING ABOUT HUNTING SEASON)

Okay, all you sports fans! It is official, my Georgia Bulldogs will open the college football season in the USA TODAY/ Coaches Poll as the #1 ranked team in the land! How ‘bout that you Gator fans?

I even bit the bullet and finally purchased a big screen HD television complete with the HD hookup primarily for college football! I am definitely behind the times. Oh yeah! I can now watch Realtree Outdoors on ESPN 2 HD!

Now, as much as I pull for Georgia, I’m not naïve enough to believe that we can go undefeated. And it’s due to something called The Southeastern Conference!

Seriously, I’m trying to figure out if there is a device out on the market that will allow me to pick up XM Radio in the tree stand this fall so I can listen to the Georgia football games. Of course, I’ll put the ear pieces in so I won’t spook any deer.

(Unless the cameraman wants to listen and then we’ll just have to take our chances!) There are some things that get me fired up as much as a big whitetail!

The experts say that if an SEC team can make it through the regular season and conference championship with only one loss, they will be invited to play in the national championship game which probably will mean another loss for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Sorry, but that was too easy!

What about you? Do you like college football? Who is your team? What do you think about Georgia being ranked #1?

Opening day of dove season listening to college football...food plot planting listening to college football...hurrying back from the deer woods to watch college football.....couldn't imagine deer hunting and college football not being together.

This should help you with your problem. I can really relate, I am a big Kentucky Wildcats fan and am a season ticket holder (GO SEC!!). I always try to squeeze games in between hunting and work. I was even at the game 2 years ago when we beat Georgia and tore the goal posts down (sorry had to get that jab in David). If you happen to be close to Lexington when the Cats play the Bulldogs this year, you should stop by and tailgate, we could defiantly get you into the show!!!
PS Are and Bill big rivals then, where he played at Ole Miss???

David, I read your testimony in the Christian Sportsma's magazine. It was awesome. Would like to contact you about speaking at a men's fellowship meeting. How do I get in touch with you? Contact me at clint_77@yahoo.com. Sorry I know comment is not about your blog. Thank you,

I like college football a lot more then the NFL b/c college players are not getting paid the high dollar like NFL. I think that it is awesome that GA is ranked #1 b/c that is what they are is #1. GO DAWGS!!! Talk to ya later.

    God Bless & Good Huntin'

Well first off Dave, I live in the Hoosier state. That means Basketball. Up here we do get excited about football too. The talk up here in Indiana usually has something to do with; Purdue, IU, Notre Dame, Michigan, and yes I hate to say it Ohio State. I would say I lean towards the Purdue side of things since I did live in Lafayette for a time. Since Coach Tiller took over the program and the Drew Breeze era it did put some excitement back into our college football. The Notre Dame fans are unbelievable up here. I have never met a fan base like it. I think they have the highest expectations out of anyone, no matter what type of team they have in South Bend. If you are a coach and you don't produce, and I mean immediately, you get whacked! It kinda reminds me of the mafia.

Well I wish you luck on the BullDogs, just remember it is a coaches poll. I'm sorry I can't side with you, I had an uncle play for Bama, so I will have to side with them. You know for family sake.

How do you feel about the Bowl Games? Do you think they should go to a play off style tournement, or keep it the same? I think I would like to see a playoff structure put into place. I would like to see a playoff structure, just for one reason. There is too much time between regular season and the bowl games. We could see a lot more football, and have that playoff excitement you get with the NFL, or NCAA basketball (march madness). I know there is a lot of history in the bowl games and a significant amount of money up for grabs, but I just love playoffs. Money can be moved around. I just don't think teams should be voted on to play in a bowl game, let them earn it on the field not in a conference room. So maybe you won't have an Ohio State thing going on in the championship game!

I am more an NFL guy than a college guy. I do like them Colts. We have a new stadium this year, I am excited to what it is going to be like. I have not seen it yet. Sounds like the Colts are going to be pretty good this year. We have Harrison back, Peyton's knee is healing good. I am liking the chances for another Superbowl.

I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL COLLEGE FOOTBALL KICKS OFF! This is the year of the Tide! I bought a extra sports channel the other day, just because it had a old Bama game. I was having withdrawels. I aslo bought a new flatpanel HD TV to watch college football and Realtree. ROLL TIDE!

  8. # Blogger phil

Well, I'm not sure how good they will be this year. But I sure hope the Fighting Irish will get something going. Grew up 5 minutes from the stadium. Now I watch the games to see what it like in the fall in South Bend.
But if they play during the time I need to be in the woods, there is always sportscenter.

Go Mountianeers, who needs a coach that doesnt hold true to his contract. Also I believe XM does make a protable unit so you will be able to listen to those Bulldogs.

  10. # Blogger brian

Now if only the SEC schools would travel and play in the north like you Realtree boys do! Would love to see your Bulldogs come up to Columbus, OH in November. Hope you have an awesome season. Really enjoy your work

It's great to see an SEC team ranked #1, especially one that we (Tennessee!) get to knock off the top! Should really help our strength of schedule! Ha! Seriously, it should be a terrific season in the SEC once again! UGA, UF or the Vols could take the East. Definitely exciting to hear the football talk--and bow season is just around the corner!! Good luck!

Go Big Red! Husker style! Now that we have Bo Pelini things should turn around. I'm ready for another great year for college football. Let me know how the XM in the deer stand works for ya. Good luck this fall. See ya on the trail.

    David,

I am a hardcore Auburn fan and I hope to see the DAWGS give up that #1 spot pretty quick. I saw your note about portable XM, so here's the device you want to purchase.

Hope you get that trophy of a lifetime this year...while listening to Auburn beat Georgia:)

Good luck to your Bulldogs. Tell John Tate to keep his head up college basketball is just around the corner, and our Tarheels will be hard to handle.

GO blue! Big Michigan fan, might be a tough year for us but we will see. xm and sirius are merging and sirius makes a radio called a stelleto that is like an Ipod so you can listen in your tree stand. but then you will be getting paid to hunt and listen to gollege football. I dont think anyone would like you anymore.
P.S. you guys arent aloud to make fun of the buckeyes, unless your from michigan.

Do you know why it is so windy in michigan??? because Ohio sucks!

Well, I don't reckon I'll find much love here - I'm a Duck fan. There, I said it. I'm a fan of one of the most liberal schools in America. Always have been, probably always will be. Just the way it is. Go Oregon!

    David,

I am an Auburn Graduate and avid college football fan. Georgia is alot like Auburn in the sense that when you guys get ranked high you will find a way to mess it up! Historically we play better as underdogs. And by the way, y'all will be coming to Jordan Hare this year to receive a litte smack down on the plains. That's right Blanton, no black out this year, just the Eye of The Tiger!!! On a lighter note, you will be coming to Gainesville, Georgia to speak at Blackshear Place Baptist Church this Thursday. My two sons and I look forward to hearing your testimony and meeting you.

Tarheel fan here so my loudest cheers are usually saved for basketball season. We may have a chance to make the top 3 in the conference this year but like hoops, as long as we beat Dook not much else matters.

    LSU!!!!!

If we can get quality quaterback play out of our guys we may be playing those bulldogs twice again this year. Geaux Tigers!!!

    Good luck this season.
    God Bless.

    David,

Congrats on the "Dogs" being number one. I am a Roll Tide fan and can't wait for the season to begin. I hunt with Sam Klement on the Hooch in Georgia and met you when you stayed at our camp on a hog hunt 2 years ago. Pioneer makes an excellant portable XM radio Model # GEX-INN02BK. We are looking forward to an awesome year on the "Hooch"

I would like to start off by simply saying WAR EAGLE!

Next, Any SEC fan can talk about Ohio State, or any Big 10 team. Let us know when ya'll want to come down here and play some real teams... we'll let Ole Miss show you the ropes before we really turn the heat up. Yes, Florida lost to Michigan. No, they did not have a secondary that was worth a crap.

Oh, and by the way, the Big 10's Golden Child, OSU, is 0-9 against the SEC in bowl games.

I think the SEC Championship will come down to UGA vs. AU... pending Auburn's success with their new spread-no huddle offense and their starting QB. We'll see.

BTW, Tide fans, it won't stop at 6. So stop saying it will... Maybe 7, but not 6. We'll see ya'll in November.

    David,

I live in Florida but I am true to my Volunteers! I don't expect alot out of them this year but SEC football is the absolute best! One thing is for sure, whether you love the Bulldogs, Gators, Tigers, Tide, or Vols, the SEC is the most dominant conference in college football. If you don't believe me, just ask Ohio State or Clemson.

I love your hunting shows. I will travel to Texas for a whitetail hunt in pursuit of a monster. Good luck hunting this year. Hopefully we will see you at the SHOT Show in Orlando.
