It's Draw Time... I Hope.

I love this time of year for many reasons. Baseball season is within a week of starting and Alex will be playing on the LaGrange JV team. Their first game is next Saturday and we can’t wait. Sitting at the ballpark visiting with good friends and other parents while your child is out on the field is an awesome feeling. Harman and his buddies are fired up about fishing this spring like I’ve never seen! They’ve even got a big fishing trip planned for this weekend.
Oh yeah, turkey season is going to be opening really soon. The Alabama season, right across the Chattahoochee River from us, opens March 15 and Georgia opens March 22.
But there is another reason I look forward to this time of year and it is the big game draw results that start coming in from hunts applied for out west. AND WE ALREADY HAVE A WINNER!
Bill has drawn his first ever Wyoming archery elk tag. That’s right, Bill is going to be hunting a big ol’ bugling bull in Unit 7, which is down near Casper. Michael Waddell drew that tag last year and killed a really nice 310-inch bull after encountering some bigger elk during his hunt.
There are lots of draw results that are still out and we await those results eagerly!
But for now, if Bill’s knees can hold up, he is going to be opening up his 2008 bowseason with a bang! (Well, not really a “bang” since it’s bowseason). You never know! This could be the year that I draw an Arizona Desert Sheep Tag!
Keep dreamin’!

The Archery Tournament

We are fired up about Monster Bucks XVI! And while we’re busy editing the hunts that made the final cut, one thing that has become “front and center” is the Monster Bucks Archery Tournament.
Last year’s tourney seemed to be a big hit. I can honestly say that T-Bone, Michael and myself shooting at targets scattered throughout a junk yard was one of the most fun shoots I’ve ever been on. I have to say that the paintball war (actually kind of one-sided since we were the only ones with guns) with Channel Cat and his cousin was the highlight!
Two years ago, we opted to not offer the archery tournament on Monster Bucks. Not because we had thought it had run its course, but mainly we knew that if viewers really, really enjoyed the yearly archery match they would certainly let us know about it when Monster Bucks XIV came out. And boy did ya’ll!
We knew then that the archery tournament was as popular for the viewers as it was for us to shoot in it.
Well, we’re planning the shoot for Monster Bucks XVI and we are already coming up with some cool ideas. There definitely is going to be a participant you’ve never seen in the archery tournament before. And some WAY different targets!
But there is time for some feedback as to what you’d like to see in this year’s archery tournament.
Let me hear from you! What do you like? What do you not like?
Either way, we’re gonna be slinging some arrows!
And please stop by and see us this weekend in Atlanta at the NWTF Convention!

The NASCAR season is now fast upon us. The 50th running of the Daytona 500 is now in the record books and for years hunting and racing went hand in hand. Is that still the case? I don’t know.
Sure there are a lot of hunters who are diehard race fans, but there is the question, “How has the popularity of NASCAR changed the mix of its fans?”
What about you? Did you watch the Daytona 500?
Nowadays, I consider myself a “casual” race fan. Nothing more, nothing less.
Since the death of my pal, Dale Earnhardt, I have admittedly lost interest in the sport. I used to really enjoy going to the track and watching a race when that black #3 was in the mix, but since that day in 2001, I’ve never been back to a track for a race. I watch the “big, fast” races like Daytona and Talladega but still only then as a “fair weather fan”.
It dawned on me about a year after Dale was killed that maybe I was an Earnhardt fan more than I was a racing fan.
Bill still loves the sport tremendously and remains one of Richard Childress’ closest friends, hence the Realtree sponsorship this past Saturday on the car of Bobby Labonte.
It was a cool looking car and people say that Realtree got a lot of television time out of the deal.
Who’s your driver? Did you watch/like the Daytona 500 this year? Finally, do you think hunters are a big part of the racing fan base? I’d love to know.

Our television and video production team has been extremely busy since the end of deer season compiling, organizing, proofing and logging potential hunts for the upcoming Monster Bucks DVD. Every year it seems that we acquire more and more hunts.
But this is not a bad thing! Believe me, we want to produce the absolute best DVD that your money can buy so when you open a catalog to order or walk into a store to buy one of the latest releases of hunting videos, you feel like, after reading the caption or reviewing the front and back covers, the BEST value is either MONSTER BUCKS or MONSTER BULLS if you’re looking to buy an elk hunting DVD.
Take our newest Monster Bucks for example. We have received nearly 80 hunts for the upcoming two volumes! Incredible!
Our own Realtree cameras captured nearly 60 of these hunts while the other 20 have been sent in by our pro-staff members, shows we sponsor, partners in the hunting industry or just plain ol’ friends who would love to see themselves on Monster Bucks!
Here’s the bad news, but not for you the consumer; as a matter of fact, our customers come out winning big time! Why?
The more hunts we have to choose from, the higher the bar is raised! In other words, it’s tougher to make the final cut. There will be roughly 30 hunts deemed “not good enough” for a variety of reasons: shaky footage, low light, bad shot, etc.
So here are the final numbers (approximately) for Monster Bucks Vol. 1 & 2:
46 hunts
25 bowhunts
Hunts from 10 states plus Alberta!
3 bucks over 200!
23 bucks over 150”!
The largest wild buck ever taken on professional video with a bow and arrow, over 230”!
Could this be the best Monster Buck of all time? We think so.
I'll let you know when it hits the shelves and the Realstore.
