SILVER CITY, NM -- It’s an ongoing problem that has turned into a big issue recently. In Grant County, mule deer are populating towns and cities at an enormous rate that has some citizens upset over the fact that these deer are eating and becoming a nuisance in their yards.
It wasn’t uncommon to drive through Grant County and see deer walking through yards in Silver City. But that problem has now grown to surrounding cities to include Bayard, Santa Clara and Hurley. The question has become: Whose problem is it, and what are we going to do about it?
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has stated that people need to stop feeding the deer.
