Hey team! Nice looking bunch we have here, but you'll look even better peaking out from behind a rack.Have fun out there and good luck.
You to canuck good luck team this season. This is my first year in this. Hopin to get one this weekend with my bow![]()
Hey guys... just checking in. Good luck.![]()
Also just checking in...got a few picked out for tom. opener!
BTW...are we coming up with a name or just keeping Team22?
I don't know its up to you guys I don't mind what ya choose. I guess somebody post a name lol and we'll see how people like it lol.
Only have one good name in mind right now lol.
1.Antler Assasins
I'm stumped for a name, but will put my thinking cap on.
Tom, I like the banner (oops, my name is spelled wrong).
I went out this morning and hid myself by a BIG rock that overlooked several trails. Out of nowhere, a buck shows up and stands 15 yards away with a bush screening him totally. After standing there for about 5 minutes he moved ahead and came by me only 10 yards out. It was a real nice forky and he offered me a nicely posed quartering away shot once he was out to 15 yards again. I declined the opportunity, since that would effectively end my season - too soon.![]()
That was the only deer that came close, although I saw 10 or 12 others.
Well...Sat. morning opener, I scored on a nice 9pt at 7:40 am.
First time I ever scored on the opening day and he is the first buck taken off my property (since my wife and I owned it).
At or around 7:30 I had a doe and two yearlings feeding on acorns working their way past me to a bedding area. After they made it by (doe didn't offer a good shot) I scanned the hill and didn't see anything. Called my buddy on the radio to see if he's seeing anything and to tell him that they are moving.
As I'm talking to him...I caught movement...two bucks heading my way. The bigger of the two stayed up on the hill and the 9pt came down the exact same trail I walked in on. Turned broadside (very slightly quartering towards me) at about 20 yards. I drew and shot...ran about 50 yards and piled up...double lung shot!
I really don't know why I shot this buck....he is a nice 2 1/2 year old buck, but I've passed up bucks better than him in the past? Anyways, I'm pleased with him and I'm going to get it mounted since it was the first buck taken from the new homested. I should be able to get picture up sometime Mon. or maybe Tues.
Team #22....we are on the board!
congrats snapper... can't wait for the pics.
I made it out yesterday morning and had a fork buck and a doe and yearling within range. I was going to take the doe but decided to pass since the yearling was really tiny and I was afraid it probably woudn't make it alone. I had some work to do this morning and will hopefully make it out tonight.![]()
Yeehaw! Way to go snapper;it's great when everything comes together like that, isn't it? I, too, anxiously await the pictures.
Awsome snapper. No worries canuck I passed up on a fawn lol big difference. I would have never shot him anyway. I was waitin for mom to come around but she didn't show. I posted picts and stuff in the bow hunting section. Sry canuck lol I thought I had it right. Once we get a team name I can fix it so thats tehre instead of team 22 and you all can use it if you want.![]()
Congrats snapper. Great start to the season there bud.
Sorry I missed the initial signing in. I went down to our camp Thursday afternoon to check for access problems after hurricane Rita passed through. Only burnt one tank of gas out of the chainsaw this time. Nothing compared to the mess that Katrina left us.
I also wanted to check the stands I had set for the predicted wind. Good thing I did or I would have had a problem for this past opening weekend. OK on to deer hunting.
I got some early season success on does. I killed a doe around 7:00 a.m on opening day (10/1) and followed that one up with another bigger doe the following morning.First time I can recall ever bagging a couple on the 1st 2 days. The shots were 23 yards and 7 yards. The first one went down within sight of my stand. The 2nd was only a couple of yards from where I last saw her. Neither one made it more than 40 yards. I love those short tracking jobs.
That's a good start toward filling my freezer again. I lost everything I had in it thanks to Katrina. Now that I've put a couple of does down for groceries and herd management purposes, I'll be passing up the skin heads for a while to hunt for bucks. I'll get my pics, etc. posted in the entry thread this evening.
Here he is...not the biggest in the woods, but I'm pleased with him.

I believe the buck no the right is the same buck...taken by the trail cam mid summer.

Snapper,
It is always good to get on the board early! I've got a doe hunt this weekend, but the "real" hunt is in December.
