Just starting this thing off. Weather has been bad considering it is spring break. I would like to go fishing but the wind is blowing hard, and I could through a line let alone launch a boat on the lake. Maybe the weekend will be better.

The weather was pretty nice for a change yesterday. The winds were calmer, and it was about 60ish, so I went to the deadwood pond and tried my luck. Never got a single bite, so I went and drove around on my 4-wheeler.
The hogs are still back in my food plot. It is so tore up and fresh with sign it is unreal. I haven't seen them thing since last year though. I am thinking of getting a friend of mine to help me set a trap so we can get them out of here. They are reaking havoc on my land.
Dad and I are fixing to burn the palce off today. We have to load up the sprayers, and get ready to fight fire all day. Sure makes a difference though. Help control the ticks and weeds alot better. Always looks real good after the first rain too all green and stuff.

My Journal is somewhat embarrassing lol. I haven't updated it in 4ever. It will remain sketchy at best til I start school since I no longer have the internet at home.
Just a quick update on things for ya. I got a new hunting bow. I traded the Spoiler for a Mathews Q2. It's a big step up from the old spoiler. I am currently tweaking the Q2 and getting it zeroed in. I should be ready for the Realtree Shoot in August. I am hoping to make a better show this year than I did last year.
I am also looking for some 3-D shoots nearby. Not having much luck though. Gas is so how I don't want to drive all over the state for a shoot.
Fishing is pretty good this year. I have already landed 2 8Lbers! I lost another monster at the bank. It snapped my 20Lb test line. I am selling the boat. The plan is to sell it and get a SeaDoo. I don't use the boat much, and I think a seadoo would be a blast.
I hope to keep this a bit more updated, but bare with me till August!

Went to the Okie Get Together today. MAn I had a great time seeing all my Realtree buds. Even got to meet a few new faces.
I shot the 3-d fairly well. Ending up finishing 3rd in the rangefinder class. I honestly felt I could have shot much better. I remember pulling 4 shots in a row. Also learned how to fletch arrows today, so I may be looking to buy a fletcher myself.
Jenn and I have been seeing deer like crazy. Seeing Fawns, Does, and even Bucks! This season looks to be tremendous. The deer are everywhere and for the first time in a while I am seeing godd buck numbers. Been averaging about 24-25 deer a night with the spotlight.
Seasons drawing nearer. I am getting more pumped. Just a matter of time before I'll be sitting in a stand somewhere. Can't wait!

Weather has turned hot and dry. I tried diskin today, but the 4wheeler disc couldn't hack it. Hung to feeders this morning as well. Been shooting the bow. Getting ready for the 3-d in Paris. Gotta pratice ranging. Short on time, gotta go!

Got settled in to Eastern which is my college. It is located in Wilburton, OK. I have to WMA around me, one is Yourmans and the other is Robbers Cave. I went to Yourmans yesterday and was impressed and dissappointed. It is loaded with food plots, and looks really good. Not to mention the 3 bucks i saw run off a food plot at the entrance. One downside to Yourmans is that it is a walk-in only WMA. I will wait til the Middle of Septemeber to check it out a bit more in depth.
I plan to check out Robbers Cave sometime later this week. The oklahoma wildlife dept says it's mostly mountains and pine trees....but you can drive!!!!
Still haven't found a place to keep my bow. I'm thinking of just keeping it in the back of my truck, and going to the WMA to shoot it for practice. I can't seem to find this 3-D range I was told about and I can't find anybowhunters that live here in wilburton!
Well, more will come later.

I spent most of last weekend working on my place. I attached my brushhog to the Ford and mowed my two plots from last year, and mowed a few other places where I intend to disc up. I mow one area down really short. I plan to put in a NO PLOW food plot in it JUST to see if they really work.
Checked my feeders, and was saddened to see that the cows can reach them. Both buckets were dumped since the cows figured out how to turn them upside down. So I raised them up about 6 more foot lol.
I decided to brave the college regulations and campus police, and now have my bow stashed under the seat in my truck. I brought a target with me too so i could practice up here. I went to the YOURMAN WMA last night and shot with some buddies I have up here. Also looked the place over, and glassed a bachelor group of 6 bucks. One was a brute!
I figure that I should be ready to scout it out in mid-september. It's just too hot to do anything now. Might take me a squirrel hunting scouting trip http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. It looks real good!
We just like a little over a month to go. this season is looking great from the deer numbers I am seeing.

I found myself an awesome scouting tool this week. It's a aerial photo mapping softwarre thats FREE. It is found at www.wildlifedepartment.com (http://www.wildlifedepartment.com) and I think it is only good for Oklahoma residents, but it's AWESOME. Been shooting the bow when I can. Kinda hard since I am in college, but at least I have a place to shoot now. Kinda clouded up yesterday, rained for a little while. the weather has turned out nice this week with highs in the high 80's.
Just for the heck of it, I am posting a picture of me shooting in my yard. I like a journal with pictures in it and this give you an idea of what I look like when I am practicing.

You need two things Kyle....a bow with your correct draw length..http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif...AND....some photoshop skills so you can cover up some of that ugly...http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I can't believe your highs have been in the 80's. We've hit 100 everyday this week with heat indexes above 110!!
Old Big Cedar must be blocking that cool weather from coming our way.

I am home for the weekend, and have tons of work to get done. I have to mow a lawn in a little bit, then I have to hurry back here so I can finish my foodplots. We got quite a bit of rain last night, so hopefully the ground will be a little on the soft side. I sure hope so, because I am going to be using a tiller for most of it. Temps are supposed to be near 95 or so today. Gotta love working hard in the scorching sun. Nothing like heat stroke, and dehydration to get a deer in the fall http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
Corn feeders were empty this morning, so I had to fill it back up. Took 16 days for 40 lbs of feed to empty. The deer have finally found it. There are tracks everywhere.....cows, deer, turkey, coons. It's amazing how fast they found it. Maybe I can get me a game camera tommorrow at Bass Pro.
The Oklahoma Wildlife Expo is going on this weekend too. My family and I are going to meet up with some buddies from this forum sometime. I can't wait to see the guys, and meet their families. It should be lots of fun.

Well if you have ever read one of my journals throughout the year, you know that I get into spells where I have absolutely nothing but bad luck. Well this weekend since my last post has been nothing but it.
It all starts off yesterday as I head into town to mow this guy's yard. I get there, start the mower, drive it to the gas station ( 2 blocks ), and get back on it to go mow. The dang starter burns up right there! Just locked up tighter than a monkeys butt. So I pushed it all the way to his house, didn't get to mow his yard, am not going to get to mow his yard til maybe next week. It's already TOO tall, so no mow, no paycheck. Might even lose the yard.
Thats not all. I go to till my smaller food plots. I get one round made and BAM BAM BAM. The darn thing throws a rod, and it's full of oil. It's so old it just finally jumped the ship I guess.
So I get the disc attached to my tractor, make 2 rounds with it, BEARING on the front right quarter ( it's a big disc ) shatters!
Needless to say I didn't get my food plots anywhere near done. It's getting late in the season too, and I am stressing that I am not going to get them in.
So this morning I am supposed to be up at 8:30 to go to Guthrie to the Wildlife Expo to meet my realtree buddies. I asked dad to get me up on time, since my alarm clock isn't here and is at school. So my phone rings and wakes me up. It's gator ( Jason ) asking me where I am at. I told him in bed and he says well ITS 11:00.
Needless to say I didn't make the trip. Turns out dad forgot, and I missed a fun day with my buddies in Guthrie.
But if my counting is correct, that means 4 strokes of bad luck so I am either done with it, or I am due for two more things to go wrong.
Anyways.....I hope my next post will be something of a better note.

This weekend is Labor Day weekend. WaHOO! I don't have to come back to school until Monday evening. I am staying up here tonight though ( all alone http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ), because I am going to go scouting with Kevin (MCH) and Mike (Roadkill10), and whoever else shows up tommorrow. It's kind of funny. I am less than 10 minutes from the James Collin WMA, but the roads to access it are an hour from here lol. I am having to make a half circle basically to go ten miles http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Oh well, it will be tons of fun regardless. I think we are gonna shoot bows, and just mingle. There is a chance I may not make it though...that depends on if my dad needs our car in the morning to go to OKC.
The disc is fixed. So I should be able to get my food plots in by Monday. I guess I paniced for no reason lol...but we have been so busy, I just figured we wouldn't be able to fix it so quickly.
The temps are still pretty hot. I hope it begins to cool off soon as Oct. first is just 4 weeks away. Of course I will hunt regardless of the temperature. To be honest, I am just happy to still be able to hunt. I know that Hurricane Katrina has ruined alot of peoples lives, and hunting seasons...at least I still have mine.

Kevin seemed to have jinxed me this morning. I was supposed to be at James Collin, but woke up at 9 instead. I didn't set my alarm....go figure eh?
The drive is considerably closer than I thought though, so I made it there by 9:44. The place sure isnt what any of us expected. Not me at least. Dale, Mike, and Kevin, were the brave souls who ventured out to this no-man's land. We split up, Mike and Dale, and Kevin and myself and ventured back into the WMA.
It wasn't long before Kevin and me were lost. Well not lost, we just though we were. The maps we had were either old, or made by a moron. Regardless...we found some nice spots. Kevin seemed dissappointed with the area, until we got near the mountains and found some cedar trees. I guess it's the hillbilly in him.
We picked 3 nice spots, and saw plenty of turkeys, and a few deer. It was lots of fun, we ate great, and I will have pictures up when I get back to school.

Woke up to a nice rain this morning. However I had work to do rain or shine. So I set to it about 7:30 this morning. Took me an hour to attach our disc. I was just having tons of problems lol. After I finally got it all aligned, it was a breeze.
The rain continued to pour as I crawled my way back to several of my food plots. Made a few round on each and broke the ground up pretty nice. I made one plant in a triangle shape. I plan to plant 3 different things here to test out what the deer hit the best. It's my first plot like this. Maybe if the results are obvious enough, I won't have to buy different kinds of seeds, I can just use one.
About 11:30 my tractor started sputtering pretty bad. I am not sure why, but I took it home. I just like one plot from being done, and I think my dad will more than likely do it sometime later on this week.
Jenn and I are about to head to town. I am gonna buy my seed, and grab some more mineral licks. Should have about 90% of my food plots in by this evening. With this rain, I should have a stand when I get home next weekend. Using 10-10-10 fertilizer this year. Hope I see some good results. I have pictures, and I will post them when I get back to school on Monday night.

Late Evening
I ended up going all the way to Seminole to buy my seeds. Our Wal-Mart didn't buy any this year. I decided to give it all a try this year , so I bought a bag of everything they had. It's mainly clover, and turnips and rape. I will add some peas and wheat in them later. It's extremely hard to broadcast that seed in the areas I disced...so I imagine there will be some bare spots. I am going to plant a 40 yard row of corn in on of the plots tommorrow. I have always wanted to hunt standing corn. Maybe it'll be ready in time, maybe not.
I am gonna have to fight cattle this year. Not to bad, but there are 20 or so in our pasture. They may ruin my plots, oh well, what can ya do eh? The guy did pay for grazing rights.....
I did spoil myself at Wal-Mart. I bought myself a late birthday present in the form of a new climber. It's pretty nice, especially for a Wal-Mart stand. I climbed up the cedar trees in my yard effortlessly. Seems a bit loud with the quick connect pins, but I have an easy fix for them. It'll make a great stand for school, and also for my stand location in James Collin this November.
If all goes well this week, I plan to venture out to Yourmans to do some scouting. I wouldn't mind watching the big fields at it's entrance to see where the deer are coming in at. So far thats where I have seen all my deer out there. So I assume this is the major food source, and if I can pinpoint their entry, then hopefull I can setup about 75 yards into the hardwoods and catch em on their way to diner http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I did manange to get some pics of my foodplots. Unfortunately the lighting was terrible and I just got the one pic. I'll get some more next weekend. Maybe there will be some green on them by Saturday.

Went to Yourman this evening to try out my new Muzzy's. Shot them and had a wierd wobble in 1 out of three arrows. Not sure whats going on, but other than that they shot great.
My buddy Kendale and I were shooting when we noticed some deer in the field. We sat and watched for an hour or so. During that hour we watched 20+ deer trickle into the field. We saw three different bucks and even had some come out less than 100 yards away. We are going back thursday to look out a bottleneck where they were coming in. Should be a good spot.

Went back to Yourmans this afternoon and did some walking. Man we found the best looking funnel I have ever seen. I mean this thing is loaded with tracks and sign. Fresh poop, fresh tracks, and a perfect stand location. It sits right on a creek, with two fields on each side. I mean something about this place just spells perfect for an early season hunt. The only problem is that it sits near the entrance and if someone drives to it, my hunt will likely get ruined. It may be far enough from it, but if they drive back in to the place then it will ruin at least one side of it.
It looks real real good.

Glanced the fields again tonight. Had three does come out and feed. We watched them for a bit, and then I shot my muzzyz again. They seem to fly better with each outing. I just ain't used to it I reckon. When we left we saw three bucks on some property not far from the WMA. There was two small 8's and a HUGE 6 point. His rack was odd, but very nice. I hope he ventures over to my stand locations sometime. The does we watched feed in the field were right by my stand site. It looks to be a superb spot!

I lucked out with my food plots I think. Got home yesterday and check my plots this afternoon, and was happy to see they hadn't sprouted. The weather is supposed to be dry this week, and I was afraid they were gonna sprout and dry out. But thankfully they didn't, and are just sitting in the dust. Just waiting on a good rain to get it going now. I do wish it would have rained last week though, and rained this week. I like to have my plots going by now so I can utilize them by Halloween. Looks like this won't be the case unless we get some rain.
I found a brandnew package of Rocket Mini-Blasters in my gun case today. I only have 1 left, so this was good to see, since I am having a little trouble with the Muzzys. I think I am gonna take the muzzys and place them on my beamans with the blazer vanes on them and see if maybe this helps me. I just can't seem to hold a group that I am comfortable with with them on, yet I can shoot lights out with the rockets. The rockets are wonderful broadheads. I just wanted to try something new this season, ya know, waste some money lol. If things don't improve soon though, I will be switching back to my rockets http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
Its odd how the deer movement differs from Home and Wilburton. I know the deer have been moving late down at Eastern ( Wilburton ), but they DID move before dark. That simply isn't the case here. I don't see deer until it's incredibly hard to see them, or after it's dark. I was seeing them early 3 weeks ago, but somethings changed. I am kinda at a loss as where to begin my season here at home. It's so dry, and hard to track sign. I imagine I will hunt some of my faithful treestands from years past and make my adjustments as needed. And maybe just maybe my foodplots will come in in time to catch some early season action as well.
3 Weeks and counting!

Checked my feeders this morning. All were about half full and an still working real good. I would say something has definitely found the feeders in my pecan grove, because I dumped about 30lbs there last week on accident and it's completely ate up, and there isn't but a few little kernels left. I tested them and the batteries are good to go. I wish I had a game camera to check to see what was hitting them.
I shot for an hour or so this morning, and shot a little better with the muzzys. I went ahead and switched to my beamans camohunter pluses with the blazers on them just to see what would happen. Well, lets just say the muzzys are still setting on the blazer vaned beamans. I imagine thats where they will stay. Shot my first group 100% better and shot group after group clear out to 40 yards just as well as I would with field points.
I am heading back to school here in a little while. I am not sure if I will make it to Yourmans WMA tonight or not. I doubt it since I have a little school work to take care of.

Checked my foodplots this weekend, and and disappointed at what I saw. I have nothing but dirt growing, and we got a good rain last week??? Anyways, I spread some more seed into the plot and added some 10-20-10 fertilizer to keep it going. Hopefully it will rain some more, and get this sucker going. I'm running outta time for it to kick off for use in the early season.
Checked my corn feeders and they were all hungry. Filled em up. Somethings hitting them real good. Grounds to hard to see tracks, but I figure its a mix of squirrels, coons, and deer.
Bought some new Realtree HD Camo this evening. I think I am fully outfitted for this season. I bought a nice new jacket for the cold days, but not artic days lol. Also bought a insulated pair of bibs. I have cool weather gear, and artic gear, but it's to loud lol, so I bought some quieter stuff thats not so hot.
Also bought a Gorrilla bow hanger for 7.43 at wal-mart. Seasons almost hear, and I can't wait.
Saw a few deer this weekend at home. Saw 5 does and a BIG bodied deer in a field, it was to dark to tell what the big deer was. It was definitely mature whether it was a buck or doe.
Opening day plans are to sit in the gasline near the creek and hope to catch a deer feeding on the white acorns. I am more ready for the 3rd, which will be my first hunt out at Yourman on the funnel. I think it's gonna really produce me some results. Maybe that big 6 will come by.

Six days until the 2005-2006 Deer Season opens here in Oklahoma. I can't wait til that day. This week will be tough to handle, and I imagine I will get little sleep in anticipation for the hunt. Plans are to be sitting in stand come sunup this coming Saturday.
On a down note, I didn't see one single deer all weekend until last night. It was on the side of the road lol. Filled one of my feeders up that I forgot to fill. Check my plots, and they are coming in slowly. It's hard for them to do much since there is no moisture in the ground. I am praying for rain soon, otherwise I may have wasted my money and time http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well Seasons open in the great state of Oklahoma~! Too bad the opener was the worst I have seen so far in my life. Got up opening morning to a severe thunderstorm with lightning and hail. Not to mention the torrential down pour that followed and lasted until the late morning hours. I decided that hunting, lightning, and hail didn't mix so I opted to not hunt.
BUT eventually the clouds broke and by 3:30 I was resting snuggly in my new climber in my spot. The bad thing about clouds breaking is that the temp rises! It got hot and in a hurry. The skeeters came out and reminded me of why I NEED a bug tamer suit lol. The time drug on as I watched a rather fat grey squirrel play about on the ground and run up my tree. He settled on a limb in front of me and scolded me for a few minutes before leaping to the ground for some acorns. Didn't get a chance to capture him on film...wished I would have.
About 6:00 I saw two does come bobbing down the trail the COMPLETE OPPOSITe direction I thought they should come. Both came into my shooting lanes and passed unharmed. I probably should have shot one, but I am wanting a buck this season, so I let them go. Give it a few more weeks and they'll probably be in trouble.
So far this has been my only outting this year, but I am up here in Wilburton now. I'll get to hunt Yourman for the first time. I can't wait. I also have me a new little hunting buddy this year. Her names Brittany. Shes a cutie and is going hunting with me this week. She wants me to take her out to get her a deer, so I am gonna do my best.
Forecast looks warm this week. Should be hard hunting, but I gotta get my feet wet~!

Went to yourman this evening and hunted a field edge where I have seen deer skirt earlier in September. Had to hunt from the ground since I had me a hunting buddy this evening. It was a pretty rough setup, but after I get some buckets and some netting it will make a good blind for further hunts.
We ended up seeing a total of ZERO deer. It was kinda depressing, but at least it's season here. Temps are supposed to cool off the next two days. Highs in the high to mid 70's will be nice. It's gonna be nice when the weather turns cold. This place looks great.
I am also pretty happy about one of my new hunting buddies. Took her out for the first time tonight. She seemed to enjoy it, and wants to go again. I just hope the deer come through and set the hook on her http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Haven't been able to log on very much since my computer contracted the TROJAN virus....that thing is one tough thing to crack!
I went to Brittany's house this past weekend and camped in the mountains with her and her family. Got to do some bowhunting as well. It sure is some pretty country up there. I have never got to hunt in pine forests, so this was a special occasion for me.
I hunted one morning and had squirrels everywhere. By Mid morning I had five does come in behind me about 80 yards out. The came through slowly, and it was just awesome! They weren't close enough for a shot, but I was just happy to see them.
The evening before I took Brittany down in a valley below camp to try at a doe for the youth hunt. She took her 30-06 and we settled in for the evening. Nothing moved forever and she began to talk a little. I had to hush her in mid sentence because I could hear a deer. a minute or so goes by and she tells me she will forgive me for lying to her lol. Then about that time a doe appears 50 yards behind us. There is no way we can turn around to get a shot so we a re stuck there!
I hear her starting breathing hard, almost joking lol, and then I feel her start to tremble as this doe is staring us down. It takes all I have not to crack up laughing...I mean shes really shaking! Eventually the doe got smart and high tailed it outta there. It was a great expeirence though.
Blackpowder starts this weekend and I plan on going back up to Clayton again. I will report later.

Fall is hear inBlack here in southeastern Oklahoma. The temps have cooled off and the trees are absolutely beautiful. The deer movement has been decent at best however.
Went out this morning in the coldest temps of the season so far, unfortunately the winds were the strongest as well. I sat in the same valley that Brittany and I sat in last weekend and didn't see anything but a lone coyote on my way in this morning. He didn't seem to be too bothered by my presence.
It started to sleet around 9:30 and I decided it was time to head back up to camp. Did score on anything opening weekend, but I have my smokepole hidden in my truck and I plan to hunt Yourman WMA this whole week.I hope to at least shoot a doe to give my team 5 points. The forecast looks great, and tommorrow morning looks to be just above freezing with light winds. I hope to catch somthing sneaking through the river bottom http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Went to Yourman this evening....what a waste of time. I now understand what all the people in here are complaining about when they talk about public land. I got there at 5 and had 5 hunters walk by me within an hours time. I just snuck out at 6 and left. I talked with some of the campers at the entrance and they said it would be like this all week and only a lucky few got deer. It was terrible and I have no clue how to hunt the rest of this week. I may just take the 30 minute drive down to Brittany's dads to hunt there greenfield. Its 23 miles further....but at least it's private!

Yesterday was quite an evening. I went and set on the east end of the Yourman WMA which was the only spot I could find that wasn't BLAZE orange everywhere you look. I sat in the corner of a huge field in a fence row that was grown up. I sat on the south side of the fence and had two nice bucks sneak in behind me at 6:45. I couldn't get turned around for a shot and these dudes were 15 yards. They caught my wind and high tailed it out. Then about 5 minutes later I had 7 does walk the wooded edge of the field to the west of me. I couldn't get a shot off though.
This evening I took Brittany with me. On our way in we saw a large doe running the woodline on the east end of the field. It's not a doe day here though, so we let her be. Never had nothing come in except for some kamikaze robins that landed inches from our heads. Tommorrows another day!

The final weekend of blackpower season is already here. I am beginning to wonder if this is goin to be another year without a blackpowder deer. It's warmed back up and I haven't been seeing any deer activity. I hope it cools off again for this weekend. I am going back down to Clayton to hunt the mountains again. Hopefully I can at least smoke me a doe.
The season is starting to take it's toll on me. No luck is beginning to burn my rear!

The deer gods smiled down on me this weekend. Saw plenty of deer and overall had an enjoyable weekend hunting whitetails.
I went home with Brittany this weekend and we went up to their deer camp in the Kiamichi Mountains to spend the weekend. That evening she and I went down to hunt a pine tree clear cut. We sat there all evening and didn't see a thing besides the overpopulation of bushy tails that have overrun the forrest. She got pretty restless and tossed and turned alot. I was tickled just watching her pout when I would tell her to be quiet or be still lol.
I slept in that next morning after her dad tried to prod me outta bed. I just couldn't do it....to much late night partying at school lol.
That evening Brittany decided she was gonna sit this hunt out because I left at 3 and that meant I was gonna sit for 4 hours lol.
Once I got there I sprayed down and settled in for the long hunt. It wasn't long before I had some bushy tail action in every imaginable area around me. Around five I was so irritated that I was ready to see what a .50 cal would do to a squirrel. Thankfully for the squirrels the woods erupted with crashing of spooked deer coming my way. 5 does came charging through the timber at a dead bolt. I whistled frantically to stop them but the wouldn't do it. I launched a ball at the back doe, and shot right over the top of her. It was funny that as soon as I shot they stopped dead in their tracks long enough to snort at me and haul once again.
I walked down to make sure the deer wasn't hit, which was obvious when she snorted at me stood there and ran off. It was 6 by this time, and I thought I might as well sit til dark. It was a good thing I did, because a doe came in shortly after. She walked 75 yards in front of me and I let her have it. She dropped instantly as I shot high and spined her. My nerves got to me as I got the shakes horribly. It was almost as bad as the first deer I killed and it was just a doe.
So I gathered my gear and walked to claim my doe and was kinda sad to see spikes on the poor things head. Turned out my doe was a spike buck. I couldn't tell with the naked eye. Regardless he filled my blackpowder buck tag. I was proud of him just the same....just felt kinda bad for killing a young one.
I hunted this morning for my doe, but none would show the faces. Just saw two hen turkeys. Turned out to be a great weekend. Really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the next few weeks. Rut should kick in soon.

Dad and I walked the creek bottom and found several rubs. All were VERY fresh, but all appeared to be low to the ground and mostly on small trees. Tells me that theres a little buck working in the area. I didn't find any scrapes at all though. I am looking forward to this week. Things outta heat up anytime now!

Trout season has opened here in Oklahoma. I have never been trout fishing before, so I bought a tag and a lite tackle rod and reel. Went out the first evening and didn't catch nothing, but went yesterday and caught the limit of 6 in about an hour. It's really fun, because you can see the fish just feet away and they still won't bite. I caught 2 that were over 16 inches long. I guess thats really good for here because the old men at the hole were all excited and said I should take pictures of it. I did, and will post them soon. I ate some of it last night of the grill and to be honest, I don't care for trout, but they aren't hard to give away so I guess I have found me some new entertainment here at school.
Our get together is this weekend at James Collin. I am packing up and heading down there to meet the boys in a couple of hours. I probably won't make this evenings hunt, but I should get to hunt all tommorrow and Sunday morning. I will post pics of camp and the fish when I get back!

You're crazy!! Trout is awesome! I just started fishing for trout this year! It's open all year 'round up here, but they're not native. Rainbows are all I've caught. If you batter them and fry them, they're AWESOME.

Had a great time with my buds from Oklahoma. I got to the WMA around two and drove all over trying to find them. I ended up spotting Kevin's truck and left him a note to call me. So I drove down a ways to a creek bottom and got out and started walking. I found two fresh scrapes ( I could smell em ) and 14 rubs within 200 yards from the road. So I made a ground blind and spent the evening there without a sighting one. As I was unpacking at the truck when Kevin pulls up and tells me to grab a light and he has one down. So I help him track his buck , and got to enjoy watching the delight on his face when we found the brute. He had himself a nice 9 pointer, his biggest yet I believe.
Afterwards we ( well I watched ) skinned the buck and got him all quartered down and ate some delicious deer meat. Went to bed in the biggest wind storm ever, got up and laughed at the wind some more. Kevin's tent broke. I left early to go meet Brittany and her family and that was that. I got to hunt one evening lol.
Brittany and I are headed to Woodward, OK tommorrow for the season opener of rifle season on Saturday. My uncle Mike says he really has some good ones spotted as usual. I am pretty pumped. I look to get a good buck for my team. I won't settle for anything less. I am even more pumped that Britt is coming. She should get her first buck if she can shoot straight. I hope I get to share that with her. Anyways, I will report back when I get some stories.

I am stuck right in the middle of our Rifle season here in Oklahoma. So far it's been one of the best ones I have seen. During the first few days I had bucks chasing does all day. It was the most action I have ever seen. It seemed that nothing moved til the sun got up and was shining. Then it wasn't long before I could see deer running in the flats below. I never did see a shooter chasing though. I called in 5 deer over the trip I took to woodward. It was really neat.
On the second evening I was sitting in a brush pile with Britt and I had just finished a rattling sequence when she whispered " Kyle!" "Here comes a big buck!". I had brush in front of me where the buck was coming. She told me he was running right to us...which he was. He came in at a dead run and hit our entry trail, froze, and in a flash bolt back towards the river bottom. I stood up and took a running crack shot at this bad boy. I missed clean! He was the best 10 pointer I have ever seen easily.
The next evening had me and Britt in a open praire draw. On the way in we spooked up a 1 point which was to become here first buck. She dropped it in it's tracks. It was awesome. We decided to continue hunting, and it was good that we did. Right at dark we had a BIG doe and a button buck ( we thought it was a doe ) came through. Britt took a 150 yard shot and nailed the young doe. Why she didn't shoot the big one I dunno lol. The young deer fell in it's tracks and the big doe began running away. So at 200 yards and running, I decided to fill my doe tag and nailed her in the neck. It's my best shot to date! We claimed both deer and picked up the buck as well. In one evening we harvested three deer. I was very happy to say the least. Britts buck dressed at 110, and the button buck at 80. My doe dressed at a whoppin 140. It was a long evening of skinning and quartering, but well worth it.
The next morning was my last hunt. I didn't see a deer one, but my uncle took a nice split brow 11-point. I ended up coming home buckless...but it was worth it all to see Britt connect for the first time. And I have another week, so it's all good! I should have pictures up soon. They are really good! Check back often for them!

Well the season is coming to a close for me. I doubt I will be hunting much more. I didn't get a buck during rifle season, and it appears this season is going down as a scoreless bow season, and a buckless season. It is unless you count my spike lol. But the season is a sucess in the fact that I killed my first muzzle loader deer. And I shot the biggest doe of my career with probably my best shot ever on a deer. I still may get out and hunt if I get one pinned down, but I am kinda tired of hunting, and need a break. I hunted hard this year and put more hours in the field than I ever have. I enjoyed it though, and I am sure next year will be even better.
