Ever since February 18, 2001, NASCAR's dream for the Cup Championship would be a close race between Dale Earnhardt Jr and Jeff Gordon.
Here (http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2004/data/standings_whatif.html) is a link to what the standings would look like (after Junior's TWO penalties) if this was the 2003 format. How about that?!

Too bad its not like that, Gordon would be leading.
If Busch wins this championship, I will be really upset, just like alot of Jr. fans also.

I REALLY DISLIKE THE NEW POINTS DEAL.MAKES IT UNFAIR FOR A LOT OF THE OTHER GUYS.THERE IS NO WAY BUSCH WOULD WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE OLD SYSTEM,AND I DONT THINK HE DESERVES IT.IT ALSO DONT SEEM FAIR THAT A 11 OR 12 PLACE GUY COULD RUN GREAT THE REST OF THE YEAR AND THE 9 AND 10 PLACE GUY COULD RUN LIKE CRAP,BUT THE 11 OR 12 PLACE GUY FINISHES BEHIND THEM IN POINTS.

Look at where Jamie Mac and DJ are in the standings too. I don't think it's right to rob them of a top 10 finishing spot.
Junior should be ahead by 49 points though. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was an opponent of the new system and probably always will be, regardless if Jeff or Jimmy win the championship. The Cup is supposed to go to the best team/driver for the season, not over a 10 race stretch. I bet if the remaining 32 drivers didn't show up for any races in the last 10, I bet this new system would disappear faster than Kyle Petty at the Green Flag.

Man that is close! Just goes to show that Junior is just as good as Gordon! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif( Not trying to start anything there) Both are awesome drivers! The way the last races before the chase started were going I knew that it would be close, they were all closing in on Jimmie Johnson.
