Just finished another call (pics)

Here's one of my latest calls...just completed yesterday May 24, 2005. Checkered Mahogany and Purpleheart. The contrast is off a little on the last two pics...it's actually not that dark. Hope you enjoy!

I really do enjoy making them. I can usually complete 1 call every 2-3 weeks. Of course that's just working on them at night and after work when I get a few hours to spare. Because of the mahogany/purpleheart combination, this call has really good rasp. I have one just like it that I made for myself...it's an awesome sounding box! I was showing one of my calls (just like the one pictured) to a fellow turkey hunter and this guy from GA walked up and had to have one...he wouldn't take "no" for an answer. I told him that I had never sold any of my calls. Somehow he got my address (probably from my hunting buddy) and later sent me a check for $85. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I guess I could have sent the money back but at that point I was kind of obligated to make him a call...so I did.

Please don't get me wrong. I'm not posting my calls on here to try and drum up business. I just like sharing my joy of call making with my fellow turkey hunters. I would love to make a call for each and every one of you for free but the reality is I just can't. I really hated taking the guy's money but I guess that was his choice. He got what he wanted and I got a few extra bucks to spend on more turkey hunting stuff. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm making a call right now for my Dad for Father's Day. I'll post pics of it when it's done.

Ain't nothing wrong with gettin' some daddybucks for your time and talent. 85 is the perfect ballpark for a call that looks that good provided it's got turkey in it, which knowing you, I'm sure does. Keep up the craft, you never know....when you get old like me, you may tire of the computer racket and you'll have hundreds of turkey hunters makin' a racket for your calls. Dad of Dad's Calls just started makin' boxes in 97 and now is at it full time. I heard he made 100K in a year just off turkey calls here recently.
