LLBUX checking in.

Looks like we have several folks from IL and other northern states. That is a big advantage.

I'll be out tomorrow morning for the IL opener. I have selected a quiet little spot where I took some good buck pix this summer. The evening hunt will be on an oak flat.

Let's get 'em!

Excellent, I'm really excited this year. Next Friday on the 7th of October im off to Quebec for 9 days of moose hunting, going to be a lifetime hunting trip. Then the second week of November I'll be off for a week of rifle with the deer. I'll manage to get up a couple weekends with the bow and maybe even a weekend before the rifle week.
Anyways, My father sold his cottage this year so I am going up with my uncle(right next door). This means my Dad has passed down his legendary stand to me, he shoots ATLEAST 2 bucks in it every rifle week, so I'll have a very good chance of putting points on the table for us.

Found a dead buck Friday. He had been liver-shot on Tues/Wed. Meat was too far gone for recovery. I salvaged the antlers on Sat afternoon.

The buck went about 132" green as an 11 pointer. I'll try to post a pic later.

Saw 8 does/fawns last night. It is cool enough now to take a doe so I'm goin' hunting!

Good luck all!

NOTE: I'm sorry to inform you that twodogs2025 is no longer a member of this forum and therefore cannot continue to participate in the contest. So that you don't have to be one person short hangunnr volunteered for the vacant spot. This was something that was completely unexpected but I feel this is the best fix for it with it being this early in the contest. Please give hangunnr a warm welcome.

Thanks

Well guys heres a few pics from my Quebec moose hunt! As I said before, we downed a cow and her two calves.

The two calves, five shots, emptied a clip. First shot missed, second shot dropped one calf, third shot broke two back legs, fourth shot put one down and fifth shot put the other down.

It's been raining ....windy....just plain wet weather here in upstate ny....went out sat and sun to muzzle load....seen a few does and could of harvested one but decided not to . I don't want to shoot the does on my property because i haven't been seeing to many.....when rut comes in i have a better chance of seeing a buck.....we have 77 acres and their are a lot of farms near by that have a lot of hunters....so i like to keep the deer coming on my property and let them feel safe......then when rifle season starts the bucks will seek out the does....then thats when i'll score.....but if i see a buck during muzzle loading i'll shoot him.

EXCELLENT ss! I'm in for a week starting tomorrow morning of shotgun, then the next week of rifle. I'm also shooting anything with antlers as long as its bigger then a 4 pt. Don't have a doe tag, and I need to fill the freezer, because of the area I'm in, this is the gameplan. Anything after that will be a bigger buck I'll wait for in another area. SIGHT EM N SMOKE EM GUYS.

This mornin' nothing. Went to school and drove back out at 3, walked in, sat and at 4:24 a big old doe walked in at 50 yards. She was really hesitant about the new stand, but got used to it, browsed a bit and left the way she came.

Never heard her at all, When I first saw her come out, she was SO big, I was positive she was a buck, had the gun up, but was disappointed.

Anyways, I'm going to connect very soon.

Good job guys!!!!!

My weekend hunt was K-o'ed when I had a root canal get infected. I was pretty miserable all weekend.

Woke up Monday morning with a face like a pumpkin. My eyes almost swelled shut. I had a reaction to some meds and had to go see the doc.

Some better today but I still won't win any beauty contests. I may win a fright mask contest.

Kids at school(I'm teacher) thought it was funny and I can see the humor too.

Hopefully all will get well this week and I can sit for awhile on stand.

Good luck all!

GUYS I MISSED A 10 POINT!!!!! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

This morning at 6:55 I looked behind me and a big 10 stepped out, I'm using my shotgun with slugs right now because thats the season.

Anyways, at 65 yards I slowly turned around, aimed and fired. The buck stumbled and I thought "HES DOWN", Then seemed to regain himself! THEN MY GUN JAMMED, he was standing there looking at me playing with my gun, finally I ejected the shell and it rocketed towards the ground, making a loud noise. By that time he turned and trotted in the way he came, and I made a noise with my mouth to stop him, but he kept going so I aimed and fired a second shot, I rushed it, and the third shot was just a security shot.

Anyways, I drove to get my dad and we were positive I hit it, I was positive I hit it because of the stumble it made. We found no blood, tracked it for hours, even went and got one of our deer dogs but there was just too many deer tracks for the dog to distinguish the most fresh buck track.

Its hard for me to believe he just twitched because of the shot, it was a broadside shot, 65 yards, I shot, it looked like his left leg gave out and he caught himself.

This is the second buck of my life that this has happened to, I feel so sick to my stomach, but I'm going back out there anyways tonight, the morn, wed night, thursday morn and night, then I'm off up north with all the boys for rifle week.

Any thoughts on that 10?

This morning still no buck. I heard three shots to the south, three shots to the west and three shots from the neighbours who are about 300 yards behind me(three shots all the time because theres no rifles out in the country, just two weeks of shotgun).

Then about 15 minutes later I heard a deer running through the woods like a freight train, panting so loud I couldn't believe it. It was obvious it was my neighbours and that it was wounded, so I decided if it ran by I wouldn't shoot it.

Next thing you know, everything goes silent and BANG about 50 yards to my right. I was angry they crossed the fence and shot near me, mostly just because they scared the living daylights out of me and all I need is more shooting at my stand sight after what went on yesterday with that 10 pt, especially when its not ME doing the shooting.

Just an update.

For sure man... Now is the time to close the deal, lets git' er' done throughout December. I have a feeling some of the highest scoring teams are kind of shot out, who knows if they will get bigger deer then they already have got. Also, some peoples seasons are going to end this December including mine, and some people might not have another tag.

LETS KNOCK EM' DOWN, SEND EM' TO TOWN!! We have a few ppl including myself who havent got one yet, I only have one buck tag to myself so I'm shooting anything that walks by, just because any points should help.

I MIGHT be able to use my dads tag but its a long shot, so maybe if I shoot one I'll use his tag in a mini-party hunt sort of thing to make it legal and keep hunting with mine.

Well Mossy the game plan is....

...for you to shoot a 20 pointer!!! It's all on you now...... http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've still got the chance at a urban buck so there is a small chance of an upgrade of my entry.

I'm on it buddy. Starting back to the stand with the xbow next week, shotgun season would have died down now, gonna dump the winter apples out and let em' come in.

By the way, do you think the deer will be able to smell the apples still under the snow, saying they don't find the apples before a snowfall?

We sure are tezz, I know, I don't think it is fair to include mulies... they are obviously bigger than whitetails in my opinion?

Then again, I wouldn't be whining if I had mulies in my area lol. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Our second gun season has arrived here in Illinois. I was sick for the first one and didn't hunt much.

I was out this afternoon for the last 45 minutes of the day and passed up a doe. I'll hold out for a buck until Sunday afternoon and then try to whack a doe for 5 team points.

I hope our phantom member gets something this week.

We are in the chase!

I just went out tonight and put out a huge load of apples, some cobs of corn and a whole jar of peanut butter all over the trees. Looks like they've been hitting the salt lick too, so I moved it to right where the pile is.

The whole way walking into my stand, the snow now shows TONS of tracks and poo, all different sizes of bucks and does, this got me really excited. I'm leaving the stand alone for the rest of the week and hitting it next week.

WELL guys, this morning I got up at 5:45 and took straight off to the stand. -25 with the windchill, super cold morning, I'm using my crossbow.

Anyways, as it got light, I could see that my apple and corn pile I put out was very disturbed, and I only put it out last thursday!

When I got down, I walked over to the pile, and let me tell you, the entire area is RIPPED up, Theres atleast one HUGE buck track, another small track and a huge doe track.

They have been visiting it atLEAST once a day, I just have to be there to intercept them, I will hunt hard, should I rattle or grunt?

Just Checking in, their at my apple pile like cattle, its just a matter of timing. Nearly froze my a$$ right off my body last night, my feet were so cold I couldn't stand, I had to keep hitting them on the tree stand to get feeling back.

I plan on hunting some more later in the week. Today I get out at 2PM for two weeks(I am a teacher). I'll have some responsibilities, but not many.

My mother passed away last week on Sunday evening so I spent the week with family rather than hunting.

I plan on spending some time in a tree to soothe my spirit. Right now I am pretty low.

Good luck to all and have a Blessed Christmas.

Startin' to look a little slim on the points guys, yes LL, its hard for me to get out too. I'll try my best until the end of december when my season ends. I'de hate to think I already lost my chance this year by missing that 10.

I missed a doe last night at 35 yards. Forgot to hold low enough for her drop.

I'll be back out a few days in the next week or so. I haven't given up.

Good luck all!

Merry Christmas to you all.

Decent Christmas over my way, just went and put apples out today. These darn deer are just everywhere, all around my stand, pooping and eating, the snow tells the story.

I also noticed today, I moved my salt block 3 weeks ago and instead of licking the actual salt block they have licked right through the snow and into the ground wher it previously was...wierd, but I have heard they like the dirt where a salt black has been.

Anyways, my season ends on the 31st so I have this week to connect with the buggers, I believe if I'm out every morning and night, I'll atleast see a doe. Something's going to happen this week.

Okay team, I'm down to my last weekend to upgrade. I'll be heading out about midnight friday night after I get off work to give it one more shot. A buddy down where I hunt saw a nice 10-12 go across our field Monday night so he's still there. Lets hope I have a little luck left this weekend. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've had the year from ****.
I had an infected tooth during the rut, a cold during the shotgun season, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer in October and passed away December 11 and yesterday I admitted my wife in the hospital with pneumonia. She'll be in for a few days.

I have until Jan 12. I'll keep getting out when I can.
The time in the tree is therapeutic for me.

I hear ya LL, sounds like an awful season. But the karma for your mishaps might come back around and you shoot a deer! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well, I'm sitting in my stand tuesday mornin and I HEAR SOMEONE COUGH? 10 minutes later three%@#$ing guys walk by my stand, they don't look up to the stand but they know its there. It was the neighbours I could see, and they have been intruding on this farmers private property all year. I left a very vulgar and angry LONG note on the windshield of ones jeep. ANYWAYS, I go to follow their tracks in the snow after the morning hunt on wednesday to see where their sitting, THEY HAVE BEEN BAITING WITH CORN, I have an apple pile and their putting piles of corn back there. I'm furious, and the landowner will be contacted soontime.

On a better note, this morning I hear tons of crunching in the snow getting closer, I'm thinking great its those idiots again. Out pops a doe, then another and another. They just ate buds and such for awhile about 60 yards away then left. I can also see deer have just found my new supply of apples. Got 3 more hunts to make it happen.
