Well folks here we are again.
Lets get this thing started right!
There are a few folks that I do not reconize so lets say hello and start winning this thing.
I was lucky enough to be on the winning team last year so hopefully I can help out again.
Also if you have any team name ideas; let hear em! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hey guys.
I've been seeing and trying to pattern 2-8's that looks like they will measure somewhere around
100-125. They are real wide, but not much mass.
I plan to be in the woods on oct15th the start of NY bow season.
Good Luck to all.
Anthony
Tony Checking in here .. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
i will be hunting with a recurve for the first 10 days of our season to try and fill my county doe tag.. after that then game on with my new Hoyt Ultratec.. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
our season started Oct 1st and runs until Jan 10th.. i only hunt with bow , but i have been known to use a muzzleloader during our late season to try for a big buck..
i like to get a doe in the freezer early and quick and then spend the rest of the season looking for a 150 class or bigger..
Hey Marty i see you from Ohio , i used to live in NE Ohio many years ago . i lived in Hartville and Uniontown area..
im familar with VT and Huntinsonofagun. actually i get to shoot with Huntin each year i got to Oklahoma.. which is a lot of fun.. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
if your interested in my season i will make a post everynight i hunt in my users daily log ... which means i usually go about every night until Thanksgiving... http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
any ideas for a name for our Team ?

Well I had 6 huge doe wind me yesterday morning. Its my 1st season hunting trad only with no compound crutch to fall back on either. LOL
I was set up in a large triple trunk pine in the fork of 2 heavy deer trails flowing down a notch directly in front of the pine. They come in well above me at 50 yards and its basically the only way down for them for a long ways. I left tons of maple sapplings between me and the notch as to not be seen with 15 yards one way and 10 the other for lanes.
They came down about 1/2 way and must of winded me with the crazy gusts we had that morning. They scooted back up the notch and gone.
Oh well it was my 1st day out with many more to come!
Name for the name could be: Team Broadheads-N-Bullets.
Its the only one I thought of so far. LOL

I hope things are well with our other team members...

I can not think of any others that are catchy and or clever.

Howdy Team 5!!!
I've been informed that your team member ksm will not be hunting this year due to health reasons. I had one last person that wanted into the contest and I will swap that person into ksm's spot. Your new team member is Bdboy53, he is swampy's friend and has a low post count (19) but he will be hunting this season.

Hey guys...Just got back from our yote/fall turkey hunt. No yotes...2 birds. My 13 year old son got his 1st bird! A Special day.
I nailed a hen he got a jake.
Father and son...ahhh the memories!
Anyway, our deer bow season opens on Oct 15 and I have been seeing 2 nice 8's frequenting my yard ALL summer. These are suburban deer...40 miles north of NYC. The guestimates for their score is somewhere around 100-120?
I hope to bag one of these bucks.
Good luck to all.

I suggested "Straight Shooters" for a team name.
well it was my first night out this year and i almost filled my tag . i had 2 deer go by at 30 yards and had to pass with the recurve.. i will only be using it until oct 15th then out comes the big boy Ultratec.. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Awesome Tony. An indian helped me make a longbow from scratch. I shot it a little over the summer, but quit. NEXT year, I'd like to get a deer with it....not many will EVER built a bow and kill a deer with it. It would be special for sure.
I'll get a pic of my tags this weekend http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I had a buck walk behind me at 35 yards last night in a buch of sapplings. Same triple trunk pine tree stand.
Oh well got plenty of time left.
The name thingy is getting no where.
Everyone needs to pick 1 name they like to put for a vote.
I had suggested a few but like "Team Broadheads-N-Bullets" as my one to vote on.
Adjam has "Team Straight Shooters".
We need some more 1 only name suggestions guys!
The we can list them in a group and vote on it.
Lets go Team 5!

i kind of like the Mac Daddies, but it doesnt really matter. good luck to you all this season. lets WIN this thing!!!!
ok i vote for Broadheads and Bullets .
Uniontown is in between Akron and Canton about half way.. its in Stark county.. my mom and dad live near Alliance ..
i blew it last night guys. i missed a doe twice with the recurve.. first shot was 10 yards , and the second was 20 yards.. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
the funny thing is the doe didnt really spook at all. she just walked off slowly with the rest of the other 4 deer that were all within 15 yards..
i need more practice i guess.. im off to practice right now .
i am going back to the same place tonight . im going to hang a stand in a differant spot tp try and pick off the does before they get to me.. kind of trying to cross them up a little.. .
there are just too many deer working that area.. i saw 16 last night.. plus a few scrapes have popped up and there are rubs to the west of my stand location..

well hello fellas!! what about the Lung Busters as a team name!! i thought about that name after i shot my buck yesterday afternoon.
well i finnally got the monkey off my back! yesterday afternoon i went hunting with my cousin and a friend. my cousin puts me in a lock on stand that is on the edge of a field with some persiommon trees in it thata re dropping pretty good. At about 6:40 i look across the field about see a deer working the edge of the field just inside some planted pines. he then checks one of the persiommon trees and then crosses the field to where i was. he came down about 15 yards and broadside and baaa he stopped and WHAPPP!!! i smoked him!! he ran about 100- 125 yards and found him in the planted pines. I was so pumped that i called everyone i could think of from the stand. he weighed 185 and is my biggest deer i have ever taken with a gun or bow and my second deer with a bow and 1st buck with a bow. i''ll try to post pictures in a few!! lets keep it going boys so we can win this thing!!!

Opening eve here in NY's southern zone.
Rain has been NON STOP the last 6 days, the runoff and erosion is incredible here.
Let me ask this question team...
Being thats it been wet; rubs, scrapes and any other scent markings are weak because of the rain. Right?
When the rain stops...do you think it will be a good idea to go heavy with scents, estrus ect?
Real deer will be out freshening their marks too.
If I beat other deer to the punch will the bucks come investigate? The deer know its changing seasons due to the moon and the recent weather. So a lot can happen in a week since its been raining as far as does coming into estrus.
What do you think?
I'm usually a treestand set up on a trail hunter rarely using scents, except for cover. I think a scent parade will be effective.
Just looking for you guys input.
Rain or shine...I'll be out tomorrow morning.
Good luck to all.
Lets go Team Rah Rah rah!

Got back in at 9:30. I saw one 5pt and he came within 10yards! I was on the ground in a pop up blind. The buck knew I was there all along. He wouldn't take his eyes off me. He did'nt spook though...was more curious. After about 15 mins...he decided come closer...he got within10-15'
snorted 3x and took off http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Pretty cool.
Gonna be backout there for the afternoon hunt.
BTW. I used Tinks 69 with no results.
unless the bucks in your hunting area Adam are after Does i would lay off the tinks until your pre rut or rut..
Saturday Morning:
i had 3 does come close this morning . all within 30 to 35 yards . problem was that they didnt offer a proper shot for me.. they were to much quartering forward..
saturday evening :

I had a close encounter I posted already Under "BUSTED by the unseen.."
This rain is making bow hunting real tough IMO.
I though they would be flocking out into my green fields like ussual, but I am seeing hardly anything.
Only in the mornings, which I can barely hunt due to watching the kids...
We got one weekend left and I have the last 4 days off of our bow season.
Hopefully I can make something happen....

I blew a shot folks...Plain and simple...I blew a shot http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.
A doe came up behind me and knew something was up...She wouldn't pass the tree I was sitting in. She took a step forward, then backward. She must've looked up at me about 10x! That freakin 6th sense they have. It was the lead doe and she was nice size too. She finally gave me an opportunity to draw my bow, and then she started to walk behind me to my left. With the bow at full draw, I let loose a "BAA" aim and let rip...The string hits the arm of my tree stand and threw off the shot. I swung around too much and the string was inbetween the bow and the arm of my summit climber. DUH!
The ground blind was too small to draw my bow in...so at the last minute,I ran home and grabbed the climber and chose a tree in the back of the house. Limbs needed to be trimmed ect, so my view was limited.
I just have to chalk it up to experience.
When I get back into the yard... My son Joe comes out and told me him and the whole family was watching it all with binocs thru his window.
Great...just great... http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
He says..."Dad...are we eating backstraps tonite?"
I missed Joe...we both started laughing http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I thought she was in the freezer when I got out of my tree. I swear I did not push her and in fact due to an error in waht direction I thought she went, we ended up giving her a good 4.5 hours to expire before we took up her blood trail.
Rain I think screwed me on this one.

So anyone seeing any decent bucks on our team?
I just came back from doing some work out on my property and did not see much for rubs or scrapes, but lots of heavy trails coming out of the woods in areas the historically did not travel.
Thankfully that home made ground blind I poste4d about covers 4 major trails in a far back corner of field thats never been hunted since I owned the property.
Come on Nov 12th!!!!

Talked to the landowner I hunt on today, he showed me a spot (spot I was fixing to hang a stand in....go figure) I am pumped!! Bucks starting to move, and now a spot that is tried and true....just gotta find time to get a stand hung out there.....

I have seen big 8's in my yard all summer. Now of course... they are invisible. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I have been seeing a old buck that looks like he is injured. He is very white in the face and gimps when he walks. He has 4 good points on one side and a twisted downward spike with what I guess you can call a brow tine. He is walking with 3 legs, but still has some dominance. All the little bucks scatter when he comes to the scene. The end of our archery season is near nov.18 and I see this deer often. I estimate him to be about 4-5 years old. Its gonna be a long hard winter for that buck with 3 legs. When it gets down to the last few days...I'll probably take him. I'd like one of those 8's I've seen in the past, but he'd do if I don't come accrosss one of them. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I went out last Thursday and Friday to finish up work on my property for the rifle and ML seasons coming. After I was done I took a ride on the atv to check out all the field edges and saw zero buck sign.
Went out again on Sat afternoon with BobD and we saw everything tore up in all the old haunts the bucks use year after year.
I think my ground blind will produce this year!
We start up again this Sat the 12th so wish me luck.
Due to my daughter coming up from LA to visit the week of thanksgiving, my hunting may be limited.

I went out this morning and WHEW was it windy....
All I saw was a 4pt chasing a doe...he was glued to her...the rut is in FULL SWING here in NY.
In NY we have only 6 days left of our early archery season. This year the gun opener is on a saturday. The 1st time they changed the opening day since 1946. DEC claims it will get more people in the woods if the gun opener was on a saturday. Sure it will...I can see it now... the hummers and escalades pull up... out pop the city guys decked head to toe in orange with their 300weatherbys shooting every spike that I let walk. My land (62acres) buts up against a 450acre hunting camp.
Bow hunters in NY lost 2 precious days during the rut, by making gun season start 2 days earlier.
Oh well...have to make the most out of the last few days before the guns start going off. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

ON 11-10-5 I discovered I have an fairly bad ear infection.
Doesn't that always seem to be the way?
A couple days before the opener of rifle season and I get sick.
Not to mention body aches and pains racking me.
Well to dang bad cause I still went.
4:30am 23*F, I am up and getting ready. Thank God we had almost zero wind. Hard frost too.
I get to my blind about 45 min before legal light and the moon was out. I see 2 nice rubs 10 yards behind my blind on a field edge in the moon light that were not there aa few days ago.
This raises my spirites for sure. I am over looking a scrub transition area directly across a field east of me that I found several rubs and scrapes in, with a nice scrape 90 yards away and a rub 100 yards away just inside the edge on a log road I can look down into.
6:30am 2 doe cross the field I am overlooking at 200 yards north of my blind.
2:00pm neighbor sighting in a muzzle loarder 1000 yards east of me.
3:30pm other neighbor (behind me) giving his family a property tour and testing out the echo off my ridge line. They walked down an ATV trail not 20 yards behind me and never saw me.
(Idiots.)
4:15pm 4 doe at 400 yards cross a feild and up into my woods.
No bucks in 13 hours of sitting.
LONG day of dark to dark hunting in that blind with an ear infection.
Now I get 4 days of work to think about it.... http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I told ya I was gonna get him... http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
There he was just a hobblin along on 3 legs...gimping...I have been seeing him all bow season. We are just about on the eve of our gun season here in NY. I went out about 10 and about an hour after sitting there, a few does come trotting by with a samll but wide forkhorn glued to the does you know where http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif She stops...he rears up...she takes off...I know that feeling http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif she's playing cat and mouse with this little buck, then they stop an look down the slope. Here comes Grapefruit. He has a grapefruit sized ball on his left rear knee. No doubt from being hit by a car. That causes malformed antlers. Guess thats why his right horn was messed up. I looked at him, knew bow season was just about over...said by all rights, he should be a nice 8. His face was very white and I knew he was an old deer, that on 3 legs was gonna have a rough winter. I felt his back teeth and there were no sharp edges on them, a sign of a old deer. I waited for him to get 20 yards...let out a "BAA" drew and TWAP!!! I broke both front shoulders and right thru the heart. He collapsed right on the spot. Who says expandibles dont open thru bone? Both shoulders were broke!!! Both! I used 100 gr NAP Shockwaves hooked up to a 31" Beman 380-16 shaft, shot out of my 65lb Mathews Outback! What a combo! I did not get a pass thru, but the tip of the broadhead was sticking out the other side http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Not bad penetration.
I really like NON TYPICAL and this fits the bill.
This should put us back on top in this thing and keep us there for a while. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Heres the story.
Went out last Thursday for an all day. Planned to sit in the Tree Lounge way up on the top of the ridge. By 9am the winds were just to high and to cold and I had a single doe slip by but no buck following.
I had packed some PB&Js so I slipped down to field level to eat lunch in my tan box stand. While eating I hit the Primos Great Big Can and this guy flew out of the woods right in front of me at about 80 yards looking for that hot doe.
The sandwich goes flying and I grab the gun and scope him to check for a legal 1" 2nd point on one side which is VTs new antler restriction this year.
I looked and looked but he would not stay still so I opted to pass because I was not sure.
Fast forward to last night.
I was going out to move a heater form one box stand to this box stand since I had planned to take my kids out this morning. I was in work boots, carhart blue jeans, and a tan polo shirt with a red plaid fleece shirt over that.
I was not out for a hard core hunt in other words. LOL.
I went out around 3pm and decide to just sit until dark.
At 4:30 he came back out but on the other side of this point of trees and at 50 yards I clearly saw the 2nd point on one side and BAMB!
300 Ultra Mag in the high shoulder/under spine shot that folded him right there.
Went and drove the truck right to him so no dragging.
Just the way I like it.

Guys, I cheated and took the rifle out. Took a management 2.5 year old off my buddy's hunting grounds for management reasons. He was pleased. My first rifle kill....wow....it is as fun as bowhunting!! Just don't have to wait as long to go get them after the shot! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I just hate seeing all the other guys walking around...kinda screws stuff up... http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Anyway, he would have been a 4x2, but he broke off his main beam right after the G-3, so I think he is technically a 3x2. I normally would have passed on this guy, but my buddy is trying to manage this land, and there are several bucks with one NICE side, and then a side such as this one. At least it will upgrade my score another 5 points. That don't mean I am done buck hunting!! I still have 2 either sex archery tags! Here's the pic...

I just got back from my gun hunt, and its bucks only. All I saw were little spikes and buttons. I have a rule on my land...no spikes are to be taken...unless its your 1st deer. One of my buddies did not heed that rule and we had a blowout. This was not his 1st deer and he shot a spike that had like 4" spikes http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. You can't shoot big deer, if you don't let the little ones walk http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I am trying to get some QDM going on here.
I'll be back up there this weekend, I have 2 more weeks of gun season left then muzzleloading witch is a either sex tag. Good luck to all and have a happy and safe thankgiving.

Hey guys...nothing doing here. I have been out many times and all I have seen was does. There are no doe tags for the area I am hunting. I am gonna switch up and hunt with the bow in a bow only area this week.
Good Luck all and hunt safe!

Gonna hit the wood next week for the 2nd archery/ML season.
I will only get 3 days and mostly just evenings with having to watch my kid in the mornings.
I hope to tag out on something big but realistically may only get a shot on that big doe that keeps avoiding me.

I hope to get up to N.Texas this weekend to guide a few more Quail Hunters.... Since we have a contest running I will slip away from my clients and try to pop the 14 pointer I missed last year..(buck fever - Turkey rifle)
- On another note, one of our neighbors who is a Texas Trophy Hunter member - shot a monster buck on the opener up there...
I have no pictures yet, but it was a 18pt 180 class B&C...
- The area of North Texas we hunt has some big deer, but they
are rare compared to South Texas...
- This pic is from two years ago, this guy shot the number 3 B&C for North America in an 8pt... Nice deer...

Just one more big buck teaser pic.... This friend of mine spent two weeks in the field with his bow in IL two years ago. He also owns and runs a duck decoy company.. If this contest had big prizes, I would have recruited him to our team... lol ...Have fun and hunt hard Team B-N-B!

Well folks I am done.
No more season for deer in VT after today and I am just not able to make it.
Last minute crap and I have to watch the kids.
Oh well I got a small buck and put up a few points for us.
Hopefully the other guys can pull us threw.
Good Luck to any that are still at it!

I'm just about done with the end of this week. I missed a shot yesterday at a doe with my smokepole. I am still shootin open sights and I messed up a 60-70yard shot. No hair, no blood clean miss. I am still hurtin though from jumping in the river behind my house to get my sons doe he shot last weds. Darn thing made it into the river behind our house and started to flow away! I had to jump in and drown it. That cold water made my thighs ache big time! I told my son , since I technically put the deer down, it should be MY deer right? http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I couldn't deny him that deer, even though he didn't make a good shot.
His story is on the RT bow hunting topic under Squirrelhunter's91 1st deer..
I might get out again this week with the bow behind the house. We live in a bow only area.
Good Luck all!

All done here too guys.I dont know when the season ends for the rest of you guys. Hope we can at least stay in 4th??? With only 8 of us even responding, I guess we did alright. Hopefully the 2 deadbeats we ended up with will at least not be allowed in next year.
good luck to those that are still hunting and thanks to those that are done. this is just a friendly team thing guys and it was cool to listen to everyones stories..
but im really chompin at the bit to get out and do some hunting. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif as all of you know i ended my season really early .
actually its amazing i shot a buck this year . i hadnt shot one in 4 years.. i was passing up everything that was 140 class and under .
right now i have from Dec 19th to Jan 10th to hunt with either Muzzleloader or bow . i can take a buck on this tag also but its only good for the late season.. i will be taking both weapons to my stands , just in case hes farther out for a good shot with bow..
i guess i need to shoot like a 50 point buck to help our score out . ah heck, i might as well break the world record while im at it... http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
its been fun and have a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year...

I'm done guys...no more deer to add. The deer season in NY's southern zone ends this tuesday.
I have been out with the smoke pole the last 4 days, and the snow is VERY DEEP. The deer are all yarded up and do not go far, but they can hear you coming a mile away with all the cruchy snow and ice we have had the last 3 days http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. Its soo thick where we hunt, we are lucky to get off a 60 yard shot. A few of my friends have shot deer on drives, but all does.
I have had a great season, and I have hunted more this year than ANY other year I have ever hunted. Betcha I have 40 or better sittings on stand this year! It was a great year, my oldest boy got his 1st and I took a good buck too. I hope we do good and wind up in a respectabe place in this contest. It has been nice hunting with you boys http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
Merry Christmas to all and have a safe and happy new year!

i hunted monday night and i saw 5 deer. one was a 2 point that had only one side . they were all at around 60 yards. it was only 20 degrees and when the sun went down it got cold fast, but it was so cool being out deer hunting again.. hehe http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i got to go out friday night and i saw 7 deer. i had 2 does go right by at 12 yards.. they seem to be back on there early season patterns again. the does were crossing exactly where they should be..
i also hunted sunday morning. i saw a really nice buck at the honey hole and lets just say he was a definate shooter. i think he was about 25 inches wide and around 10 points . i figured around 160 class...
i was going ot go this morning , but theres ice all over every thing here. the roads are pretty bad. i will head out this afternoon to try again..

Well guys, no bow-buck for 2005. We gave everyone else a run for their money for sure!! Had a heck of a time, and glad I got on a team that knew how to get down and HUNT! I passed up some does this past week with my bow, due to the heat, since we were camping. I didn't want one to spoil and it was early in the hunt. Nothing else close enough after that! That's how the cookie crumbles though....
Definatly looking forward to the 2006 season!!! Still have till the 15th to stick 2 more does, but not sure how much more I'll get out. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
