Hey all, putting up stands this week I was out after elk last week and could have shot plenty of 120 -140 5X5 Whitetails but waiting for the big one. Season opened on Sept 26 in the forest here in Saskatchewan.

I shot a nice 40 inch moose this week 10X7, to bad I can't use him in the contest lol.

Going out tomorrow morning scouting again. Saw a 120 and 150 class whity running together in our spot about a month ago. Saw a lot of does and a small 3x3 too. I'll let you know whats what when I get back. Looks like it should be a good season.

I struck out, I was concentrating more on getting my daughter her first deer but there are a LOT of big boys this year. I'm going back out this thurs or friday for my doe and I'll start chasing the bucks this weekend. Season looks great so far.

I was out Sat and seen a few small bucks and lots of does. If we had a draw moose tag would have had a big cow Sat afternoon me and my two kids aged 4 and 8 got to within 30 yards. Trying to hold out for a nice buck.

Saw a few deer over the weekend, nothing in bow range. No shooter bucks either, did find some fresh rubs yesterday afternoon while out on the tractor within bow range of the blind I built last year.

No luck here with the muzzleloader this week, had a spike in my crosshairs one morning almost mistook for a doe and had a button buck walk under me yesterday, while about a dozen does used the gulley behind me. Only thing that has tripped the trigger so far this year has been a coyote last Sunday morning at 165 yards on the move.

Back out with the bow this weekend then gun opens next weekend.

Kidd I worked out a deal with my taxidermist for a free horn mount of my 8 pt in exchange for the cape, as he always needs a good cape. The 14 pt yes thats right it has a point that measures over 1 " that I did not think did, is getting the shoulder mount this year!

He is ready to start on my 17 point from last year and I am having him done on a pedestal mount looking over his shoulder. It should be soooooooo cool.

Still holding out for a shooter here, but if all else fails, there are still some doe hunts coming up.

The wife saw a good deer on the opener here Saturday morning while I watched the kids. She counted 5 points on one side, but never had a shot opportunity. I watched a young 4 pointer with a lot of potential for 15 minutes Sunday morning, was hoping to see the deer she saw Saturday morning.

Sorry guys, new baby, work, and poor deer movement so far since the gun season opened here this year has me further into the year without taking a deer than I am used to. Been hunting hard on the weekends, and slipping out late in the afternoons when I can and just not seeing any shooter bucks and have had no good shot opportunities on any mature does at all. Sure hope we start seeing some daytime movement soon, but afraid too much pressure by surrounding hunters has made them pretty much all nocturnal around here.

Broke down yesterday afternoon and took a buck I had passed up probably 6 times earlier in this season. Had him in my scope and wasnt going to shoot him, then noticed a little limp on his right front side. Watched him come all the way across my field and into a brush pile, then he came out the other side headed towards the woods.

No backstraps in the freezer, no buck tag filled since the November of 2003 season, poor activity this year after the gun opener, needing a good cape for my daughters first deer that unfortunately the coyotes found before I did, no points to contribute to the team, all this on my mind while he was in the scope, I caved and shot a deer I would normally never have shot. He has a whopping 4 points, and a brow tine about 1/2 inch long dont think that counts, so I only have 9 points to contribute. Will try to get pics posted later today.

Heck thats ok. I shot my smallest deer to date last season. I would not shoot him normally but it was the second to last day, and I had hunted hard all season long.

h109's deer has not been counted because there was no tag pic supplied. I cannot make out any of the info on the tag in the pic of him and his deer. I have pm'd him and said I will accept either the original tag or the check in tag. He is not the first person that has been asked to pm pics of their tag, pics confirming the # of tines or pics with a measurement next to a tine before the points will be added to the board.

For the most part I use the tag pic to confirm that it is this years deer (and in no way am I sayin that his is not). There have been people throughout the contest that have been able to supply the info I've requested and receive the points and I have had people that have not been able to supply the info requested (for whatever reason) and have not received the points. I know that things are tight and it may not appear to you as "fair" for me not allowing the entry until I see the tag pic but I hope you can look at it from the other point of view as well.

Once again I am willing to accept the deer once I get a pic of either the original or the check in tag. Normally the check-in tag has to stay with the deer/meat until it gets to the house of the person that takes the deer, that is why the place that is butchering it has the tag in there posession. My suggestion would be to take a digital camera down to the place it's being processed and ask to see the tag so a pic can be taken and submitted. Or wait until you pick up the meat as the tag should accompany the meat and take a pic of it then and submit it. I've had people that have had to go to their taxidermists because they didn't supply the pic of the tag, this isn't any different.

i cant get the pic of the lockers tag but i can make one up because i know all the info from the tag if you would take a paper tag that has all the info that you need will that work to get the points.

Might work. Dont understand why the processor did not give you your tag back with your meat. Here they always give you your tag back.

they write down the tag number on the boxs then they just throw the tag away or gives it to the wildlife officer or something. but i will get a pic of the papper tag i make then i will put it on here

Kind of seems like grasping, but maybe need2hunt will be willing to take some pics of your box with the tag number from the processor with your meat in it, I mean you did pose the deer for a pic with the tag in the ear for this contest. Just too bad you did not get a closer pic.

Very frustrating!!! I just wish people would be considerate enough to take care of there obligations when others depend on them. The rules were clearly posted B4 the contest.

Writing the info on a piece of paper means nothing! Anybody could do that for there friends or neighbors deer. It wouldn't sit well with me if another team did it so I would assume others would feel the same if our team did it.

Oh, well theres always next year. Great job to all of you who had success, and thanks for keeping the team in mind! Some really great deer were taken out there this year.

I agree it was a good year and a valient effort by all. We were definately in the running and all looked well until the end. I hope you all have a great beginning of the year and look forward to the stories from next year.
I will post up my 17 pointer from last year and my 14 pointer from this year when the taxidermist say's they are ready lol.

Lack of motivation seems to be the problem.I would be in a pure panic to try,and get my info from DNR,the processor or something.I'm sorry just a little ruffled that we may lose when we have a deer down,That would put us in 1st.That just doesn't have a close up picture of the tag.Which is in plain sight,and is on the deers ear.I understand how exciting it can be to harvest something,and how easy it is to forget.But according to the rules a close up was required.

see the processor takes the tag and gives use a nuber of the boxs that he has marked as the next deer then we get the boxs with there number of the deer they have processed. itf it had the tag number i would gladely take a pic but it dont it just has the number of the deer they have processed

I'm going to post this in both Team threads so that it's clear.

Yes hunter109's deer wasn't entered into the contest due to the tag. I've read through their team thread and fail to see where he is getting bashed or taking **** for it.

Also Sasksheds had a buck to enter but I couldn't allow it as it wasn't found until later and I could not tell that it was a fresh kill, which puts them in a similar boat

The rules are there to prevent cheating, I don't think in either of these cases the participants tried to make an entry to cheat to win, both are good members here.

Like I've said to these members, they are not the only ones that I have not allowed an entry from. I don't make it a point to let everyone know those facts, but when you have as many people in this as we do then mistakes are going to happen and rules are rules.

Now that I said all that I'm going to be deleting/editing a few posts on both of these threads, if you've got a problem with that my pm box is open and I'm willing to talk with you about it. I will however not let a few people blow things out of proportion and ruin it for everyone.
