Eerrrrrrrrrrr. The previous post was me, Matt, Buckslayer007, being anonymous cuz I wasn't logged on... BTW when does everyones seasons begin? My archery seasons begin in 2 days on 10/01, in both Ohio and Penn. Talk to ya later y'all.

Hey Matt, glad to see ya' on the team.
I'm heading out to Utah for a mule deer hunt on Oct 22 - 26. We hunted the same area last year and one of my buddies got a 7x5 that scored just under 200 and I shot a smaller buck. Nov 3 - Jan 1 is the gun season here in Texas. I hunt a 7000 acre ranch in West Texas that has some really good deer on it. My problem is making myself pull the trigger on one. We've been managing it for 5 years now and we're really starting to see the results. Lot's of 120 - 140 class 8 and 10 points. I'll have a hard time shooting anything over an 8 point, unless it's a real monster. We also don't have much "character" on our deer out there. Just about everything is a typical 8, 10 or 12 point. Very little junk, so it's hard for me to get a big score in this type of contest. But hey, I'll do my best and you just never know! Good luck to everyone!

We need a team name. Let's hear some suggestions.

Here are some pics of the bucks I've been talking about and watching... hoping to get a shot at. The collage has the deer nicknames on it if you're wondering what it says in yellow... like Ol' Ripped Ear (note his right ear tear).

Hey guys! My name is David and I hunt in both Georgia and Alabama. I've already taken a doe in Georgia, but I haven't entered her yet. I've got a lot more hunting to do. I was on last year's winning team, and I'm hoping we can do it again this year. Looking forward to hearing about your seasons and enjoying my time in the woods. Ya'll be safe and good luck.

Should we vote on a team name guys? or just Team 16?

"Buck Stompers" was suggested a few days ago... Maybe we could call ourselves the "Ghosts of the Oaks", thats the best thing I've been able to think of. Lets hear your thoughts... -Matt

Another team name I thought of, but its less original, is the "Timber Ghosts". Just food for thought.

I like Ghosts of the Oaks. Of course, there's not an oak tree within 50 miles of where I hunt... http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif but it's still a cool name! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got my entry in for my doe, so we have some points on the board! Hopefully I'll be able to upgrade that score with a nice buck. Still got lots of hunting left. Good luck!

Saw 25 deer in total two nights ago all! Two 8 pointers, and a 6 pointer. No shooters tho. I love how deer respond to the first cooler weather each year... gets 'em riled up.

Well, I'm all packed and ready to head out at 5:30 Wednesday morning for Utah. Weather looks good for there, mostly clear with lows around 32 - 35 and highs around 55 - 58. Got a chance of some rain one day, but that's all. If it's like it was last year, I should have an opportunity at something decent. I'll update when I get back. Adios!

We had terrible weather for the rifle opener this weekend, hot and windy, but the deer were still moving pretty well. Saturday morning I saw 5 bucks, including a nice 140 class 10 point. He was about 20, maybe 21 inches wide, but his tine length wasn't great. G2's were about 12 inches and G3's were maybe 11. He was only 3.5 years old, so he got a pass. Saturday afternoon I saw 2 bucks, a medium sized 8 point and a small 10 point. Sunday morning I rattled up 2 bucks, but they were both small. Sunday evening I had 8 does, a spiker and another 140 class 10 point within 20 yards. This one wasn't wide at all, maybe 16 inches, but his G2's and G3's looked like spears sticking up. Again, I couldn't make myself pull the trigger since he was such a young deer, but I did get some excellent video. As soon as we get some cooler weather, I'm heading back out there.

Wish I had some of those, your "passes" sound like monsters to me!
Ive seen 140 class deer and better...but never during hunting season and never within even 200 yrds...outside of a zoo or other exhibit. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Well season opens for me on Saturday. Gonna hunt some public land saturday...if it isn't too crowded to be safe.
May have a line on a private horse farm to hunt. If I get permission I will be hunting that with a guy who boards his horses there on sunday...assuming I strike out sat.
I will be shooting for meat so don't expect a big rack...but if I get a shot at a buck I will take it.

Good luck. I'm leaving after work Friday to head out to West Texas again. Still loking for the old big boy, but I might shoot a doe if I can do it without disturbing my good areas. I'll probably head over to the east pasture during the middle of the day and look for a doe. It's 2500 acres and almost never gets hunted.

Well got out to a semi public farm today...saw a few does and had 2 in my crosshairs for a while but had to let them slide...they were a bit scrawny, I will b egoing out again tommorrow and may just shoot whatever I see cause I whont get much chance to hunt during the week...
Good luck yall...how are your seasons going?

I had five deer hanging out under my stand Saturday morning. One was a button buck that came back three times, bringing more deer each time. The first time he was chased off by a coyote, but the 'yote never stopped long enough to draw my bow. Couldn't get the doe that was with him, the last time he came back, into range. I watched the button buck and his sister eat acorns under my tree for 45 minutes, when they were chased off by a buck with one antler. I was tempted to shoot him, but he was only 1.5 and I let him walk. Gun season starts next weekend, so I'm gonna hunt the stand I saw a nice eight pointer out of three weeks ago.

I haven't been able to get out hunting all week...no babysitter. Hoping to find someone to watch my daughter all day saturday so I can get some hunting in then...at this point Ive decided to shoot the first decent deer I get a shot at, doe or buck. This is the last weekend of the sesaon for regular gun season. I could buy a doe tag for the Jan season but that would be no different than shooting a doe now... http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
anyway just had a major cold snap this week and our first snow fall actualy stuck on the ground, so hopefully I will get a good shot at something saturday.
Take care and good luck guys!

Great job! I'm still passing up shots, hoping for Muy Grande. I saw an absolutely beautiful 10 point, 20 inches wide and would score in the low 140's Saturday morning. Got about 15 minutes of video at 80 yards. Sunday morning I videoed a different 10 point from the same stand that would go about 130. I just can't justify shooting a 3.5 year old deer with that type of potential.

Hunted Fri, Sat and Sun morning. Saw the usual 8 and 10 points, including the same extra tall 10 point I saw opening weekend. Man, he looked bad. I bet he's lost at least 40 pounds over the past month. Of course, every time I see him, he's chasing the girls around! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Probably hasn't eaten anything in weeks. Hope he makes it through the winter.

BTW - I shot a doe. Nothing very exciting. I was sitting in one of my afternoon stands and she walked up to about 20 yards and I put a round from the 220 Swift between her eyes. Nice big doe for the area, field dressed at 85 pounds. I'll post her later in the entry thread if I don't get a buck.

Well today closes the season out for me...total skunk...Prior to tonight I hadn't seen any deer for over a week. Got a chance to hunt a private horse farm tonight but never got a shot closer than 300 yards. One other guy in the group got one doe but he was set up 200 yards closer to the deer. Just my luck I got assigned the stand on the 2 trails the deer didn't use.
Hope the rest of you are having a lilttle more luck than that.
