That lineup looks like a winner!
Shall we come up with a team name?

Freezer Fillers?
Wall Mounters?
Buck Busters?
Deers-R-Us?

Feel Free to add to the list.

Teammates should know one another. I'm 29, obviously hunt Saskatchewan and muzzleloader opens Sat but I'll be away for a wedding, which is no good, I've got one I'd like a crack at that night. I'm a teacher and will be having child # 2 in 3 weeks.

I kinda like Rut-junkies.
I went saturday morning, seen nothing, but jumped a few on my way in. One guy in our group got a small 6 pointer. My buddy had 2 shots and missed. seems he forgot to unscrew his pendulum sight(left it in fixed position) and shot over a nice buck twice.....lesson learned.
SO, I propose our name to be Rut-junkies. Can I get someone to second that?

10-04-2005, 01:03 PM
Lou, I'm thinking Thursday AM when the front hits! Smoke a bruiser... btw, you think rattling will work yet? I'm a little leary of educating the big boys too early!

c_lou
10-04-2005, 01:33 PM
I am going to wait on rattling until the end of the month. It's never worked real well around us, so I just go with a little sparring tickle.

It's just to hard for me to hunt in the morning. I can't get my sorry butt out of bed.

Alright guys, busy day. Steam cleaning carpets, painting a bedroom, cleaning house in prep for the baby on the way. Also found time to hand and butcher the deer I added to our team total last night. I believe he will add 18 points to our credit if it is 5 and one for every scoreable point. I'll put a pic or 2 up in the deer hunting forum. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey everyone. Sorry I have not posted yet. The last month has been crazy for me. I just got married on October 1st so with all of the last minute planning and the honeymoon I have not had time to visit the forum until tonight. I am 27 years old and hunt in Western New York. Our archery season opens this Saturday (the 15th). Hopefully the weekend goes well and I can add to our points. Good luck everyone.

Hey Billy goat, sorry bout your misfortune man. I feel for ya. But don't beat yourself up man, I had the same peoblem several years ago and i quit bowhunting for several years and that was the biggest mistake of all. Stuff happens like that and your better off learning from those mistakes and using it to discipline yourself to become a better hunter from it. So get out there and redeem yourself for your own sanity....DON"T GIVE UP!!!!!!!

Congrats on the doe Slaw!! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I knocked off a small doe this morning.
Billygoat-it happens to all of us sooner or later. It almost happened to me this morning,I'm still not sure what happened.
I shot my doe at maybe 12yds.and thought I made a good shot. The arrow entered where I wanted and looked like a double lunger.I continued hunting for about another hour then figured I better find my deer.
When I got down there was very little blood and after about 100yds. I walk up on my deer still alive. It was thick, but I still should have been able to put another arrow in her.I missed!!
She was hurting bad,but still took off running.I gave the area she went a good looking and never found blood or jumped her again.
I went back to where I jumped her and must have walked past her the first time.I spotted her bedded a second time and finished her this time.

Opening Morning Wisconsin 9 Day Gun Deer Season:

Cool, dry 30 degrees and no breeze! Amy and I made our way out to the lease this AM, looking forward to what we hoped would be a productive deer hunt. I got Amy settled in her stand, around 0545, then made my way to the North end of the property, to my stand. The shooting this AM was NUTS! Guns were blazing, probably due to the light snow cover… still, by 0730 I had managed to see no deer. All at once, crunch, crunch! THIS IS IT! Wrong! Coyote! Instead of dropping him, I leave him make his way through the woods. At 0826 Amy calls me on the radio and tells me she is “cold” and not seeing any deer. Mean while, a doe is making her way into the woods, behind me, and beds down (perfect timing for the radio call, lol)

After about another ˝ hour, I see some deer busting through the open field to the south, I called to Amy on the radio, to see if she saw them… she states it was four big doe, but she left them pass her in hopes that a buck would be following (that’s my girl). As I watch the doe make their way into the woods, I am amazed how loud the woods are! After several minutes, they too are gone. Probably another 20 minutes pass when the familiar sound of deer feet, enters my head! To my right, along the rock bottom creak, I notice a mature doe and fawn, coming my way… then a buck! As they cross the creak, I am downwind of them, but the mature doe recognizes me in the tree and freezes. Over a period of about 2 or 3 minutes, she makes her way past my stand, then the young fawn, followed by a small basket 6 point. All 3 deer pass within 15 feet of my stand, and when the buck is standing directly below me, Amy calls on the radio… AGAIN! I’m cold, and it’s getting windy! I respond back to her… “go home if you want, it’s OK”… then I catch a glimpse out of my eye, to the same spot the 3 deer just came from! You guessed it, Buck, and a good one, and I know who it is! The 11 point I have on camera! I steady my .270 on his shoulder, grunt once, he stops, I squeeze. Square in the shoulder! Then he starts to run through the brush? I chamber another shell, and watch him stumble… but keep going? He stops and I put another shot… right in the chest! He takes off again, this time moving into the creak bottom and coming directly towards me. One more- right in the chest, and this time he is down for good!

Pictures will follow, but if you look in RT pictures under “Game cams”, and search under my name, you will see a pic of him- the nice 11 pointer on camera! After a short photo session, I go get the 4 wheeler and take the remainder of the afternoon getting the boy out of the woods! After caping him out, tonight, I recovered 2 of the 3 bullets. 2 of the shots were Lung shots, 1 was a heart (presumably the last)… any one of the shots were kill shots.

So it is done- 16 points for Team Rut Junkies!
Thanks for the pointers Saskman, and the support Finn… the RT forums Rock!

UPGRADE...

Well we can add a few more point to our score. I have upgraded my doe to a buck. It is not a very big buck (4 point) but it was one my father and I had seen several times and wanted to get it out of the heard. It has 18 inch spikes and on its left side it has a short (1 inch) brow time and a 5 inch tine pointing straight to it tail. Sorry about the pictures. I forgot to take any until after we had it skinned out.
