OK...what teams out there have Dead Weight's on them. I am not talking about guys that haven't scored yet, or guys that are holding off for big deer, I am talking about guys that registered for the contest and then never came back. We have one guy on our team (coonhunter), who made 1 post. The post where he entered the contest and has not returned since. I'm not a poor sport, I didn't even expect to win with as many teams as there are. Heck, I don't get bucks every year, I got skunked last year and it hurt our team..thats not what I am talking about.....I am just saying, why would someone join the forums for the sole purpose to join a contest and then never come back? What other teams have members with just 1 post? http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think when the teams were made everyone got a forum member that had under 25 posts. This time everyone on my team has posted, but my team for the turkey contest had a couple no shows....
I agree that it's pretty rude to just join the contest and never come back.....

I think this is why the Predator contest in Varmint/predator room has been limited to those with a minimum of 50 posts. Gotta agree very rude though.

It happens with every contest, that's why I made a point of adding that members should be sure to check in from time to time, but we can't force them to.
I think next year we'll have to enforce a minimum post limit to join.

i know what you mean, my team has been really good with staying in touch and chatting about our hunt strategies, and talking about how we have been doing, we only have on member of the group that hasnt came in and said anything about how he is doing or anything...its frusterating but what can you do?

I agree swampy, Its not fair to the rest . I think at least if the people sign up for the contest and dont check in and at least try. They should be banned from future events! Sounds harsh, but it really sucks for the rest of the team to pull the weight. Its ok if you keep in touch with the team and dont score... but at least try

Well currently there is a 23% success rate by those with 25 posts or less and a 43% success rate by thise with 26+ posts. Also the 1st and 2nd place teams in the contest would not be there without their -25 post teammate.
Is it fair that some -25 posters didn't come back... I don't know everyone had that same risk when the contest started. The -25 posters i looked at as a wildcard - you never know what your going to get with it.
Also one of the my hopes is that this contest brings some people together that might not otherwise end up knowing each other. It also allows some of the people that sit back and just read the posts another reason to become a member and participate in the forums. We had 31 "low posters" in the contest this year, if some of them stay around because of the frinedships they make then it makes the forums a better place. If some sign-up and never show back up, I see it as their loss.
So I guess my question is what does a post limit do that's fair to everyone... not just the members with more posts but also for those with less posts that actually participate?
It's just like hunting guys. You can do all you can to prepare for the hunt. Raise your skill level as far as you can, but if the deer don't cooperate, you're out of luck.
I know this contest seems like it should be a game of skill but it is ultimately the luck of the draw. Gary's made it as even as he can.
I joined Primos' forum just for their contest. My first and only post until the contest started was the entry post. I then went on to score 13 points for our team. Meanwhile, there are members on our team that have been there for years that have not even checked in yet.
Of course, on this forum contest we have a few of those "dead weight" members. Luck of the draw.
