sighting in their slug guns. I only shoot rifled slugs out of a smooth bore and haven't found the recoil to be all that bad, but I kept hearing guys talk about how much recoil there is when they sight their guns in. Well, I realized that most of you have probably been referring to sighting in your guns with a rifled barrel and sabot slug. I took a shot last week with a buddies 870 with rifles barrel and sabot slug and I realized what everyone has been complaining about. That thing liked to kick my shoulder into next week. My question is this, is it the shorter barrel that causes this or is it the sabot slug or a combination of both. I was thinking of getting a rifled barrel for my Nova, but after that I am not so sure, if I do I may just keep shooting those rifled brenneke's out of it, the only thing that really keeps me from getting the barrel is that fact that accuracy out to 80+ yards isn't really all that a concern to me considering the area I hunt, I pulled off about a 40 yard shot a couple weeks ago at a Doe and had no problems, and that is about the max distance I will probably be shooting at, most shots where I hunt are in the 10-15 yards range anyway.

The reason a slug kicks so much.....lol i couldnt tell ya, But as for range, i think you should spend some time shooting straight rifled slugs out of a smoothbore at a little longer ranges, my 16 guage 870 with rifled sites is plenty accurate enough at 100 yards.

HMM, my dads gun with rifled barrel seems to kick less than his gun with smooth barrel. Of course, the one with rifled barrel is also a semi-auto with a scope, compared to the other, which is a pump and rifle sights, the weight probably makes a difference. I don't really know why they kick so hard. If you wanna get rid of the kick, make your gun heavier, and shoot a lighter slug.

I don't have a problem with the recoil in my Nova, no reducer either. I was talking about the recoil in my buddies 870 with a rifled barrel with sabot slugs. The rifled slugs in my smooth bore don't cause me any problems and recoil isn't an issue, even without the recoil reducer, now, repeated shots like in Dove hunting, thats a whole different animal with the Nova.

I have an H&R Ultra SlugMaster withthe rifled barrel granted it is a bull barrel and I shoot 3" slugs with no problems and it doesn't kick that bad. It just kind of rolls your shoulder backwards a little. I think that it kicks less than my 870 with the smoothbore slug barrel.

slugshooter you may be suprised of the amount of recoil that nova will have with a rifeled sluc barrel my stepdad has one i sited in last yr for hem the nova is so lite weight the recoil isunbeliveable compared to my 870 with a 21in. smootrh barrel

What choke to you use in the Nova and do you follow the slugs with more slugs or buck shot.
I've got some 10z. slugs and some 3" 00 Buck shot for mine. Can't really decide what to use. I'm pretty good out to 50 yards with slugs, but out further I can't focus on the target and the sight at the same time.
I probibly won't shoot further than 30 yards anyway.
I've tried with glasses and contacts, but I just can't see both at the same time out to 75+ yards. Do you use a scope.

I HAVE A WINCHESTER PUMP WITH A RIFLED BARREL AND IT KICKS PRETTY BAD,BUT I DON'T EVEN NOTICE UNLESS I'M AT THE RANGE.I THINK PUMPS GENERALLY KICK MORE THAN AUTO,AND A SHORT BARREL LIKE MINE MAY ADD SOME KICK ALSO.

Yea i dont care for sighting them in either. I shot my browning gold 10guage with 3.5" 1.75 oz slugs this past weekend, Throws one big piece of lead!!! lol. I am a big guy but it does have some kick too it, alot more than my 870 12 does. Looks like i will be shooting the rem 11-87 with a rifled barrel.

I use an Improved Cylinder choke in the Nova, haven't put Buckshot through it yet. If I ever get a rifled barrel for my Nova you can believe I'll be putting the recoil reducer in there, it's not a problem right now with the rifled slugs through the smooth bore, plus, it's not like I'm shooting over and over out there in the woods, plus, when you shoot at a deer you don't feel the recoil anyway, all that adrenaline, I'm sure if I was just shooting to shoot I would feel the recoil a lot more.
