My niece got a jake on Saturday. My daughter had a chance at a big gobbler on Sunday but he caught her moving the gun around and took off. Later she had a couple come in behind her (she didn't know they were there) and again she was wiggling around and they took off. I'm sure she'll get better at being still.

Can't wait until April 24th. I'm still debating on whether to take the bow or shotgun for opening day. Good luck guys.

In about 12 hrs I'll be sitting under my favorite Ponderosa Pine waiting for Mr. Tom. I've shot two birds under this tree so far and had numerous hens come by.

Wish me luck boys! I'd like to say I'll wait for the big Tom, but truthfully I have NOOOO problem shooting a dumb ol' Jake. Send some carma my way. I asked for some last weekend for the youth hunt and my girl bagged her first bird. In fact send me some BIG carma. The weather is bad and my calling is worse I need all the help I can get.

Congrats Willfish!!!

Called in a BIG old gobbler, and his two buddies, yesterday but he came in behind me. So I get turned around enough to shoot, with my bow, and I think I misjudged the yardage and just shot over his back. Should have taken the shotgun. Went today and never saw or even heard a bird. Rain, windy, and cold.
My brother got a jake today though. His first turkey ever and he has hunted them for about fifteen years. He was very unlucky before today.
I'm taking a day off then probably back out Thursday.

We had our opener today. I got the day off from school and everything just to have it washed away. My dad and I went out for about 2 hours this morning before the rain started to come down to hard and we decided to head back to home to see if it will slow at all. It never did. My next day out will be saturday morning hopefully the weather will be at least a little better for us.

I've had a terrible season. The first two weeks there were no gobbles at all. By the time they got started they were completely call shy. This weekend is the last chance for me. I know where 3 birds are working but ambushing them is tough when they don't come to the call. We'll see what happens.

Didn't score. The birds were roosting between two good ridges but every time I went one way they went another. They schooled me good this year. The problem is the country. It's steep and deep and it's almost impossible to cut them off. I got busted on three different occasions trying to cut them off.

They work up one of the ridges then drop down into a steep valley into private land. If your not on the right ridge your out of luck. So thats it for me, I sure wish I could have scored for the team. At least I was able to call in a couple jakes for my daughter during the youth season. As they say, "theres always next year!"

My brother got his first bird, a jake. My niece got her first bird, also a jake.

Me, I got skunked. Missed a big old bird the very first day with my bow and never had another chance at one. Was constantly having birds hang up on fences. That burns me up. They have no problem going under, over, or around a fence any other time of the year but I start calling and all of a sudden a fence becomes an impenetrable barrier.

I should have taken the shotgun so I could make sure to get one for the team and then took the bow out after that.

Way to go for everyone who scored and good luck for everyone who has season left.
