Hello Turkey Teammates http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My name is Joe and I will be hunting easterns here in New York. Our season is from May 1st till May 31st. I just got back from playing with all the new turkey calls at Gander Mountain and now I am fully pumped up for the upcoming season.

How about introducing yourselves and maybe coming up with a team name. Off the top of my head I came up with Gobbler Stompers. I look forward to hearing from you.

Joe

Sorry it took so long, kinda forgot about this...

Name's Eric and I'm hunting easterns in Northeast Ohio...it's a great area, one of the best in my state, so hopefully I can connect with a nice long beard.

Only got out twice last year because of my schedule, so I can't wait for the season to roll around...I saved some vaction time for this so I should be able to get out a lot more.

so how many turkeys have you's gotten in your turkey hunting career. Ive been hunting turkeys for about 3 or 4 years now and i to take my first long beard by myself called it in myself on the first day it had a 11 1/2 in beard never measured the spurs and didnt weigh it. I also have gotten 2 jakes and one hen in fall turkey season.

RangerClay
03-02-2006, 08:45 PM
A bunch http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've been hunting turkeys for 24 years so I really don't have a clue how many I got.

I have been in a dry spell lately. Our coyotes have gotten out of hand and they have destroyed the flock on our hill. We used to see gigantic flocks all the time but lately we have to work are tails off to get one bird. With less Tom's it's hard to call them off the hens.

There is some good news. I have a new place to hunt and it has plenty of birds. Hopefully I can connect this year.

Joe

buddy ahart
03-03-2006, 08:17 AM
Well i hope you get a biggin this year!!! Theres a few birds around here its hard to find a place where someone else isent already hunting. I can hunt public land here but theres lots of hens but no toms due to the fact soo many people hunt there and get most of the gobblers. But i got my license about 2 months ago so i am mobile and i know im ganna get on!!
So anyway whats going on with are team name any solid ideas yet ?

Bump!

We got dropped off the board for lack of activity. How about each of you tell me about your favorite turkay call. Tell me why it is your favorite. Mine is an autographed Ben Lee Gobble Box. I bought it when I was still in high school 20+ years ago from a local archery shop. Man does it sound like real turkeys. Everyone who hunts with me cannot get over how well it calls in the birds. It is a real sentimental favorite.

I have a pretty good collection of a variety of different calls. I prefer mouth calls to any other. My favorite was the split Quad Magnum from Quaker Boy but they stopped making it so now it is any 3 or 4 reed split v I can find.

03-20-2006, 04:38 PM
I have a penn woods mini mater box call i called in my 1st and biggest gobbler with it by myself. Ive called in a few for freinds and it does have lots of sentimental value. But this year i got a good Quaker boy Eradicator slate call it is also Autographed by Mr.kirby i got to meet him and he DREW a strutting tom on the back with perminent marker. Its great lookin and sounds amazing. I have alot of mouth calls and they sound alrite i gotta keep working on them.

Hi guys!

Finally got out yesterday but only had 1.5 hours to hunt. Tons of sign but very quiet morning. I finally got a bird to gobble on my way home but I had to leave. I may take a day off next week to chase him down. It felt good to get outdoors, even if it was just for a little while.

Good luck ranger im sure your ganna find one.

I took my freind out the other day and we had over 10 gobblers around us all day none would commit had 5 long long beards lol stay at about 30 yards down the tree line that we sat in i could hear them strutting and druming it was great none would commit and come in tho. I also had 2 nice birds 50 yards away from my uncle when a hen poped out of the woods and wisked the toms off with her . Ive had a blast every time ive gone out turkey so far this year but it dosent look like ill get out much tho cause of work and my grades arent to great.

Goood luck to all you's im sure there a bird waiting for ya somewhere.

Buddy ahart.

I finally got out for the first saturday of season. On my first set-up I was busting my behind to get this bird to come in. After a half hour of work he finally decides to start wandering my way. Then just like that a coyote busts the set-up http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I was bent to say the least. Almost an entire hours work, shot to pieces. It started raining by 8:30 and the birds all shut up. Very little turkey sign on my old stomping grounds. The coyotes have really done a number on them. I will probably find a new location to hunt next weekend. Good luck everyone http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Congratulations Heather!! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Hey don't sweat the small bird, they are all trophies.

As for me I am still chasing birds. I managed to call a hen into my set-up Saturday. Boy was she PO'd that some mysterious hen was in her territory. She came in all ready to kick some backside. I was hoping she would drag a tom in with her but nothing showed up. I will keep trying.

Joe
