Ohiobucks here as well. Season starts April 24 here, in till May 21. Ohio has a pretty good population of turkeys and I have been fortunate enough to take two good turkeys the last two seasons. Hope to make it three in a row this spring! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Still got two more tags to fill plus try and get my brother a bird too. Good luck to the rest of you. I'll be checking in periodically to see how yall are doing. Well, looks like i made the right choice. Bird No. 2 down this weekend. 7/8" spirs and 9" beard. I hunted this bird last wednesday and almost sealed the deal and a hen come in and stole him away. Got in there on him early sun morning and he started hammering about 200 yrds from were i was at. I debated on whether to stay put where i had my decoys set up or try and move closer. I opted to move closer so i picked up the closest decoy and proceeded to move in on him. Good thing to cuz that no good good for nuther hussy that stole him wed was in between him and me again. Normally when you are slipping in on a gobbler and run a turkey off the roost its bad but in this case i was tickled. He was all mine. It took a little coxing though. He was hung up on the limb. It was kinda cloudy and foggy and he wasn't wanting to fly down. So i set up my decoy and took my wings out i made from his buddy i killed a few weeks ago and done a fly down and it didn't take long and he was on the ground comming my way. Probably the most fun i have ever had with a gobbler. The only thing that could have made it sweeter was if he would have strutted in which he probalby would have but as soon as he was in range and clear i took em down.

went out today, Me and my grandpa went to an awsome spot that has produced a lot of big toms before. Right at light we had 10 different toms behind us in the woods, so I called and 10 seconds later a nice gobler and hen came right to us, so being the nice grandson I let my grandpa shoots it, he put the smackdown on it, had a 10 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. I still got a long season left too, things are looking pretty good

Got another tough one on Easter morning. It was light enough to see at 5:55am my bird didn’t fly off of the roost until 8:30. He had two hens roosted with him, they raised cain for about 30 minutes until they landed in my lap well 6yds from my feet. They looked like a pair of mallards setting down on a decoy spread. I knew if he flew down he would probably do the same so I had my gun my shoulder ready for 2hrs. Funny thing was there was about 50 buzzards roosted in an oak about 60yds. away. He would gobble at them when they flew off the roost but wouldn’t even think of answering me so I stopped calling. Every time a buzzard would fly I thought it was him so my heart would skip a beat while I was waiting for him to sail in. I had to leave by 8:45 to be able to make it to church so about 8:20 I called one more time, nothing. About 10min. went by and I heard some noise on the side of the ridge, he stepped out at 25yds to my right and of course my barrel get hung in the blind(first time I’ve used a blind in years) finally got it out of the blind before he got to the woods. He was 19.2lbs., 10” beard, and a 3\4” and 1” spur. http://www.geocities.com/smmsstate/turkey3.jpg
As I was walking out between the field I was hunting and my truck was the MAN he was strutting in the road I don’t know how long his beard is but it is thick and long. I’m going to try to get him tomorrow. We saw a few during deer season with 11\4”+spurs there in there but they wont gobble. Is any one else having this problem.

My story of the ones that got away http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Went out turkey hunting last Saturday, I had watched this certain lone tom roost in this certain tree and was planning on going out in the morning to get him. I got out to my spot with my grandpa about 20 minutes before It got any light. As we waited about 40 yards from the tree I thought he was in I heard a huge gobble on the other side of me. so me and my grandpa got on the other side of the tree and focused on him. as it got closer to when the turkeys were supost to fly down my grandpa did some light hen calls, that drove the tom crazy and he gobble non-stop in the tree for 10 minutes. Then my grandpa leaned over to me and told me he was about to fly down, he was right no more that 30 seconds after he said that the tom droped out of the tree and started walking our way in a full strut. as he started our way he would go out of strut and start walking away but my grandpa would call and he would start back twords us. after about 10 minutes he finally steped into a open area about 25 yards away in a full strut, so I slowly rased my gun and waited for him to come out of his strut, after what seemed forever he went out of his strut and raised his head, BOOM!, the first shot was a miss, he started to run away, BOOM!, the second shot was a miss, then he started to fly from my left to my right, BOOM! the third shot was a miss and he was to far for another shot. as we walked out of the woods I was very upset with myself, I had a perfect opertunity but I blew it. and we walked twords the ATV whcih was a on a small hill in an alfalfa my grandpa spotted a tom and two hens walking twords another woods about 150-200 yards away so we slowly backed up and ran out of sight twords the wood to cut them off. In my mind all I could think was that I might have another chance to close the deal. as we got to the woods we didnt have time to set up, right when we got in the woods we could see the 3 turkeys about 40 yards away coming into the feild also, as I crouched down my grandpa did a light hen call and all of them came running twords us. as the tom struted his way twords us the hens came withing 4 yards of us. due to the lack of time to set up my gun was in hand but at my side. As the tom got into a small opening I had to whip up my gun and shoot as fast as I could, BOOM!, miss, BOOM!, miss, BOOM! miss, then the tom realized what was happening and flew off with the hens, I couldent beleive it, 2 toms and 6 shot within 10 minutes and I didnt hit either of them. looking back on it though it was still a lot of fun. And I still got 2 more seasons that are 5 days long ahead of me.

Sorry about the spur size on my bird, I would have lost money on that bird. Its the smallest spurred longbeard Ive ever taken.

Went out turkey hunting today, the rain was just letting up when I got to my set up. Waited for about an hour and a half then decided to get up ands walk around and check out some other feilds. The second feild I checked had a tom and 3 hens by a fence row about 100 yards from me between a corn feild and a alfalfa feild. So I got on the other side of the fence and start sneaking twords them. When I got about 55 yards from them they took off running from my left to my right just out of gun range. Well it turns out a tresspaser and his dog were on a walk. So at this point I was so mad I was about to shoot his dog . Then I start walking twords him to talk to him and he sees me and takes off running with his dog. Oh well, I still got till sunday.

well not much of a story to this guy, slept in on sunday morning and woke up to a huge gobble about 30 yards outside my window at about 7:50 am. looked out the window and there he was in full strut with 4 hens and a jake with him, so I grabed my shotgun and blasted him, he was done without any kicking or floping. I would have to say that it was one of the easiest trukeys I have ever shot in my hunting career. he has a 10 1/2 inch beard and weighed in at about 25 pounds. here he is:

Well if that bird has any spirs at all we should be in first. I checked the other teams in the running and heres how it shakes out.
The Full Fan Attics are our biggest threat. They have 237.4 with only 3 birds. We should have around 240 something with 4 birds. If they get another bird were dead meat. But, i checked and i think they only have one more still in the hunt till the end of may. The other team in the running has 186 with 3 birds. They have two still in the hunt. One till may 21st and the other till may 31st. If they get a decent bird were toast unless we get another bird and knocks one of us out of the four. We have 2 still in the hunt so maybe Alex and Ohio can knock our two lowest out (incidently the two MS boys) and increase our score. Were still in it but it don't look good. Makes it exciting though knowing your in the hunt.

I did find where exturkinator killed one this morning. According to the stats he posted it will score 67.75. That still puts them at 212.75 with just three birds. 257Roberts is right, it won't take anything more than a jake to overtake us. Come on guys, it's two outs in the bottom of the ninth - take one deep!

Shot a jake this morning, looks like he'll go 29.25. Missed being the lowest scoring bird so far by 0.25. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Jake bird down! (http://www.realtree.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=956314&an=0&page=0#Post9 56314)

Get that "boxer bird" entered Slug. I actually think it will put us in a real good position unless there are a lot of people sandbagging out there.

Anybody hear from Alex? Did he get to hunt any?

Looks like cutter10x got a good bird for the Full Fan Addicts.....even if slug gets his bird entered for us, it may only be good enough for 2nd place. Anyone hear from Alex?

Well team its been fun. This was my first year for the contest and I had a blast http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif We gave it a good run with 5 out of 6 scoring not to bad. I hate to loose but FFA scored some huge birds, my hats off to them. Im looking forward to next year, it looks promising. Do you get anything for second or third??
