I am from Nortonville, Kansas a small town about 30 minutes Northeast of Topeka. I love to hunt any time I can. I have a one year old daughter that hopefully will follow in daddy's love for the outdoors. She already plays with my camo. LOL. Good Luck and Happy Hunting.

We need to come up with a name for the team. A good and catchy one. One that no one will forget.

02-27-2006, 10:16 PM
I am here too.
This will be my 2nd turkey contest and I should do ok. I am going on a guided hunt in the southern part of my state with Vtbowhunter (Josh).
Last time we hunted together I had my 1st bird ever down within the 1st hours of the 1st day.
Same for my 2nd bird the very next day.
he knows where they are! LOL
I know I am listed as Vtbowman, which is what I went by for a few years.
GrnMntMan is just my new lable. LOL
As for a team name I am open to anthing thing.
Spur Spankers
Strut Busters
Limb Hangers
Tom-asuares Wrecks (or Rex)

How about the Bearded Bandits, or Struttin & Cuttin

02-28-2006, 09:38 PM
You will find that most people do not care what the team is called. Its a pain picking a name and having everyone like it.
Believe me it took me about 3 weeks to get our deer contest name finalized last fall. LOL
Lets give it some time to see who else chimes in and give there ideas and choose from there.
Although the names go fast so we can't wait to long.
Anyone else out there?
ksbowhntr77
03-01-2006, 08:33 AM
At the rate that we have started we may be the only ones. I hope not, the others need to have fun too.
VTbowman
03-01-2006, 08:17 PM
What others...???
Sad to not see anyone else chime in.
I hate it when that happens.
You get 1 or 2 guys that NEVER show up and it hurts the team a lot.
We will see...

3 out of the last 4 on your team will be here......you can count on it. They're regulars.

Hey All,
Sorry for not dropping in sooner. I am cool with any name that everyone likes!!!
I am from NE Wisconsin, aobut 40 mi SW of Green Bay. I am hunting the 3rd season in WI--April 19-23rd. I haven't been turkey hunting long, 4 years, but I have been successful the last two years. I am married with a 20 month old daughter. I am fortunate to have a willing wife, access to land, and a work schedule that allow me to spend a decent amount of time chasing critters--mainly whitetail and turkey.
I am looking forward to hunting with family and friends this upcoming season. I will be hunting with my brother-in-law, his 2nd time turkey hunting, I want to be a part of his bagging his first Tom! I plan to go with my father-in-law and also with a buddy that will be his first time out. The population of turkeys in my area has been increasing every year..we will have a great time chasing these critters...and hopefully have good opportunities!
I have a question for the team--are any of you using any of the Hevi Shot or similar shot? Experiences? Advise? I shoot a Rem 870, 3", .670 Pure Gold Choke.
Thanks in advance,
Weldon
VTbowman
03-06-2006, 04:18 AM
I use the exact same gun but with a tru glo .665 choke.
Shooting Federal 3" #5s.
Glad to have ya on board!
ksbowhntr77
03-06-2006, 08:40 AM
Yeah, any of the Remington shot is good especially the Hevi Shot. I got a box of the Nitro Load this year to see if it works. I am shooting the exact same gun, I assume that yours is an Express Magnum. I use the Rem. Full Choke and have done well. One of these days I'll splurge and get a turkey choke.

Let start throwing some ideas out there...

GrnMntMan--I liked your idea of, "Tom-asaurus Wrecks."
I plan to get out this weekend and do a little shed hunting and turkey scouting. My neighbor found a nice one this past wkend, he believes that he has the bucks shed from last year.
On the way home from work yesterday, I saw a flock of 25+ birds in a picked corn field just to the North of the land I hunt on...hard to count exactly at 60 mph http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have a pretty good idea where these birds are roosting, so I hope to confirm it this weekend.

My area of the state is just now starting to see birds in the last few years. The southern part is where they are all at.
Lucky for me I am goof friends with Josh (Vtbowhunter-Mod) and his family has a huge chunk of land to include an entire mountian. (BirdEye Mt)
Anyways thats my great big hope of getting a scorable bird.
Tom-asaures Wrecks is not a common name thats for sure.
LOL
How about it folks?
"Team Tom-asuares Wrecks (#19)"

Sounds good to me. We need a name that's for sure. Maybe the rest of our team will show up sometime, that would be nice. It will be kinda hard to score high with just three of us, don't you think?
VTbowman
03-10-2006, 08:27 PM
Well if they dont show then we will have to bag some real Tom-asuare Wreckz. LOL
No less the 15" breads, 4" spurs and at least 50# in weight.
We can do it!!!!!
LOL

My name is Leah and I am 12 years old. I like to go turkey hunting. I have only been tukey hunting once and that was in the fall. This spring will be the first for gobblers. My daddy is teaching me how to run a box call and says I am getting pretty good. But he will probably do most of the calling 4 me this year. Also this morning about 8:30 there was a big flock of turkeys in the field beside my house. Hope to talk to you guys later and hope that turkey seson comes faster. Lilmiss I am sure your gonna do just fine and HuntnMa go get the swamp bird and kick some butt!
I will be on my 3rd season and with Josh's help I should bag something worth scoring...
What do you 2 think of a team name?
ksbowhntr77
03-13-2006, 09:10 AM
Cool, they answered back. There for a minute I thought we'd have to send out for a search party. LOL I'm chasing the illusive Eastern here in Northeast Kansas. They can get pretty big around here with all the good row crop ground. Last years bird on my pic for my posts weighed 22.5 lbs. I hope I can get one at least that big this spring. Wish me luck.

Hey guys and gals!!! I went out hunting today and I had no luck!!! I have some good news though..... I saw 2 gobblers and about 5 hens on my hunt today, and herd one on the top of the hill. My Dad and I walked up to the field were he was gobbiling from and we were about 3 minutes to late. He must of not wanted to wait anymore and moved to the next field 300 yards away. We almost went to follow him and my Daddy Strut 10 saw the other turkeys I just told you about the 2 gobblers and 5 hens. We snuk up behind the gobblers and hens and called for about 1 hour and then we looked around to see if they were still there and they must have moved without us knowing. So then at that time we decided to hit home, because we were wet and cold because it was raining all morning. So maybe in a 2 weeks I will get anothet try to make the team and my self proud!!!!!! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Things look grim for me. My weekend trip was close but no cigar for 3 days.
Now I am not hearing a dang thing and its not from lack of trying..
I have a few days planned for the up coming week but my confidence is low with this top part of the state not having a lot of birds as it is.
Maybe I can find them but not holding my breathe.

HuntnMa here you go, another bird so yours won't be lonely. This is my bird finally posted. Shot this Eastern in Jefferson County, Kansas, about 3 miles from where I live. He appeared out of nowhere and just about caught me w/ my pants down. I was about to start moving again and caught him out of the corner of my eye. I slowly sat down with not that much cover. I softly clucked and purred alittle and he started feeding my direction. So I sat quietly and patiently waited. I shot him at about 40 yards with my Rem. 870 Express Magnum, w/3" Rem. Premium 6 shot. Laid him right down.
Weight: 21.75
Both Spurs were 13/16"
Beard#1: 7-7/8"
Beard#2: 10-3/4"
NWTF Score: 75.25
Enjoy and go Team #19!!!

That's cool, I know what it's like to come home at the end of a season empty handed. That would be me during bow season and deer. The opportunities are always there but it just doesn't seem to come together. That's alright, like the quote says: " That's why they call it hunting and not shopping." We gave it a good team effort and I was proud to share a team w/ all of you guys. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
