Just checking in. My name is Aaron and I'm looking forward to start huntin. Our season doesn't open until late April. Will be hunting Eastern's in SW MO. I am going to try bowhunting them for most of the season, might break out the shotgun a few times though also. Good luck to everyone and anxious to get to know everyone on the team.

Ok, here's my turn... My name is Joe and I'm 14 years old. This spring season will be my third spring season and I cannot wait any longer to go out there. Our Youth Turkey Hunt here in NY is on April 22nd & 23rd and the actual season starts May 1st. I will probably be taking mostly the shotgun out, but I would like to take the bow out a time or two this season. I will be hunting Easterns here in NY and possibly PA.
Hey guys, just checking in, will think about some names.
My name is Tonya and I can start chasing the gobblers April 1 here in Texas. I am going to be using both my Mossberg 835 and my PSE Durango. Good luck to everybody on a great season ahead http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, I remember last year there was a really cool name that they used, The Mother Strutters, but it would be wrong if we used it again.. We've gotta come up with something original. The team I was on last year was The Big Chicken Chasers... How about Cutt'n & Strutt'n?
Here a few names I thought of, but it doesn't really matter to me
The Run N Gun Gang
The Sharpspurs
The Fullfans

Any name is fine with me. I think there is a new choke tube that is called "Jellyhead" I think that would be a pretty good team name too. The Jellyheads. It doesn't matter to me though I just hope our name is the winners at the end of the season.

Hey team...What's up Gus!
Third year for hunting the big birds...I will take one this year in MO...Easterns from NE Mo.
Let me know the short details so I don't mess up an entry! I read that we need three photos...We don't start to late April...I can even figure that out by then.
Good luck to all!
Beard chasers, Hooks and Whiskers, Prehistoric Chickens.

Hey Thayer, hows it going. Same turkey team now, maybe we can win another little contest again.
As far as a name goes, it doesn't really matter to me, good luck to everyone this year, lets rack up the big ol longbeards http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
So what are we going to call ourselves http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a little over a month until I can give it a crack. I haven't seen any turkey sign in the areas I intend to hunt this April/May. They will come around to our side of the mountain again. We just gotta give em time.

We're getting pushed back to the second page...
Shot my gun a few times over the weekend and it seem to like the same shells as last year http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Season starts this Saturday for me, so hopefully I will get to knock a longbeard over on his side for the team http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Hopefully tomorrow I will have some pics to post up for the team. Talked to my bro-in-law and he has been seeing 5 toms strutting around where I will be going. He is going fishing so I will have the place all to myself http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good luck, go get em!
Well, it didn't happen today. I did hear alot of gobbling at daylight, but as soon as they hit the ground they got with the hens and wouldn't leave them or gobble either. This afternoon I seen 3 jakes with some hens and then 2 toms that was with some hens. I crawled about 200 yards to get closer to the bigger toms, but they wouldn't budge from their hens and then the hens took them off the other direction.
Not sure if I will make it out in the morning or not I think the starter is going out on my truck. This afternoon when I went to start the truck to head home all it would do was click, but I finally got it started and got home. Hopefully it will at least start and get me to the hunting spot, then I will worry about getting fixed after the morning hunt http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have 7 days, 10 hours and 29 minutes.. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I guess you get to go after them this weekend right Joe. Good luck, sure hope they act better for you than they have for me.
This past weekend I checked the cameras and every morning they had been coming by between 7-8 and then back by in the afternoons between 6-7. Couldn't get any toms to answer my calling, so I sat by the cameras and all that came by was some hens. It seemed like all the toms had gone somewhere else, not even a single gobble was heard all weekend.
Going to try my place again this Saturday morning, but if no gobbles are heard, then I have another place I will hunt the rest of the weekend. Then the next weekend I think I will probably go to my cousins place which is about 2 hours south, so hopefully before the end of the season I will have at least one bird under my belt.

Yup Yup Tonya.. This weekend is our Youth weekend. Saturday and Sunday its only kids out there with guns, under the supervision of adults of course. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Kids are the only ones who can shoot, but adults can help call also. We've got a spot picked out where a big old tom has been roosting with a few other jakes. It's kinda like a gobblers only place. We should have these birds in our lap this weekend. If not Saturday because of rain, then definitely Sunday. Last year, we called in two toms on the LAST weekend of the season. They were very hot. That was at the end of May. My guesss was that every hen was bred already and we sounded like a hen that they missed. LOL But we couldn't connect because they hung up 80 yards away and wanted our hen decoy to close the distance.
But this one tom that has been hot the past few days is probably one of those toms we called up last year. He has got to be around 4 or 5 years old. He has a deep, throaty and long gobble. Not to mention a beard that drags on the ground when he walks upright!!
Sounds like you have plan, hope it comes together for you, good luck.
I will be out again this weekend, sooner or later my luck will surely change, just hope it is soon. I have till May 14, so I should be able to find at least one that likes my calling http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ok.. It rained and rained and rained all weekend.
I went out for a ride on the quad on Saturday after 12:00 PM ( we have to stop at 12 ) and saw a flock of 8 birds. 6 hens and two toms. I started yelping with my voice and one tom went into half strut and then popped out. They just weren't gobbling.
We got out for two hours today, but all we saw was a hen. Jumped her off her nest accidentally. Whooops. The turkeys are on our side of the mountain though which is good.
I was out again this weekend, but all I shot was another coyote. They did seem to be gobbling a little better, but still no toms came into my calling. I did spot a toms strutting for a hen and got snuck in within shotgun range, but the hen was always to close for a clear shot on the tom. I watched them for about 30 minutes or so, the tom breed the hen 2 times and then when they left they headed away from me. I still have about 3 weeks to go, so hopefully I will get at least one tom.

Our season opened yesterday, the 24th, I haven't gotten to go out yet. I am planning on trying to take off tomorrow morning and hunt. My dad went out yesterday and saw 4 toms and 5 jakes, didn't get any close enough to kill though. I am looking forward to just getting out and hopefully hear some gobbling. I will also be hunting this weekend. Good luck everybody and stay at it.

Went out today, called up 3 jakes and sure wanted to pull the trigger since I have not killed any birds yet this year, but I just played with them a little and then watched them as they went on towards the roost.
Good luck to everybody this weekend.

Monday, May 1st is our opener here. My dad is letting me and my brother take off from school to go. We are going to an apple orchard that has produced some monster toms for us in the past. Well Tonya, I told ya I would get one! I shot a jake this morning for a total score of 29 NWTF points.. LOL.. But because it's my first bird of the season, I have to enter it.
15 pounds
1/4" R Spur
1/4" L Spur
4.5" beard
He ain't no monster, but he came it double and triple gobbling and strutting his stuff and at 40 yards I dropped him with the Mossberg 835.
Congrats Joe, it is better than what I have to show so far. I heard lots of gobbling around my place over the weekend, but still no bird. Going to go in the morning to my sister's place.
If I would have had a rifle with me Sunday afternoon I could have shot one that was with a hen, but I couldn't get him to come my way since he already had a hen.

Going out again this weekend it has been a hard season so far, lot of hard headed birds that don't seem to be to interested. I think they got our season a little late this year, I heard from a guy around here that he already saw a hen with several poults. Sure doesn't seem like the toms even care about the hens right now but all it takes is one bird to get in the right mood at the right time so I'm not giving up yet.
Joe sorry to hear about your ankle at least you got that bird before you went down. Good luck with a fast recovery.

99, thanks for the well wishes. My turkey season is over now and I am so happy that I got that bird on Monday otherwise it would have been my 3rd spring season in a row without a bird.

Sorry team, too much of a rookie here...got busted a bunch of time...lots of long beards were seen. I need a tutor to figure out how to bag a bird. Did score on a truckload of morels though!!!
My season has been a bust this year also, but still have till Sunday to get one. I have gotten tons of pics on the game cams this year, but can never get them to respond or walk by the cameras on the weekends.

I have been out 3 times so far. I have been busted TWICE by birds coming in silent from BEHIND ME http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Guess I need to hunt with rear view mirrors attached to my nogin LOL http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I will skip out on work tomorrow morning & try again. REAL nice bird that I am after. I will try relocating further away & down the valley a bit. He likes going that way. Maybe I'll fool him tomorrow. Or maybe he'll just laugh at me http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
On the bright side. The birds were more talkative this week than last.
Good luck to the rest of you guys. And remember to have fun while trying to get points on the board http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It looks like I'll be able to turkey hunt some more this season!! Doc says my ankle is just a sprain and I should be good in about a week. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Sounds like some good news Joe, now go get yourself another turkey for me http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Went to two different spots today, the first one was a bust, found a little sign, but no gobbles heard so I headed off to another spot about 10 miles away. Got there and heard a gobble down in the field, turns out to be the 3 jakes I have been seeing, but I couldn't get them to come my way. Messed with them a little and they went the other direction, so I went back up towards a tank and was going to sit there till time to go. Guess I didn't sit there long enough, because on my way back to the truck I spot 2 toms about 30 yards on the other side of my truck and they were coming towards the tank, but they had never answered any of my calls. They headed towards a little field, so I tried to get in front of them, but I guess they must have went back across the road, never did see them again. They both had decent beards on them.
I plan on going back out there tomorrow after work and then again Thursday morning. Then I will not be able to go after them again till Saturday afternoon and then Sunday will be my last day, so I am going to keep after them, can't give up till dark on Sunday.

Well fellas I went out this am. At 6am I usually hear gobbles from one of three ridge tops near where I set up. Today.............NOTHING! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I was a bit discouraged seeing that any hunting time aside from Saturday mornings is very hard for me to get. I hate to waste a day. Anyway, at 9am I decided to relocate about 100 yards to a saddle in the oak flat I was hunting. I set up my decoys about 25 yards out in front & to left of me and hit the slate call with a few soft purrs & clucks. I did this every 15 minutes until 9:45 am. I had a bird coming in ..............silent of course..........dead ahead. He walked into an opening 40 yards out & stuck up his head so he could see my decoys. He was not a big bird. But I could not pass up the turkey on the table http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif One shot from my trusty of Winchester 1300XTR bowled him down. Just a jake.........but I am happy with him http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif He'll grill up good for dinner tomorrow night http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Here are his stats:
4" beard
1/4" spurs left & right
14 lbs.
Total score..........27! Not a big guy but a very fun hunt. FINALLY one of the silent birds came in from ahead of me instead of behind like twice before this year LOL http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I here that! I passed on several jakes last year.........and ended up with NO bird last spring. I hate that. Because of all wild game. I like turkey the best. Nothing like a wild turkey dinner!
I was also hunting a new area. The birds up there are hunted much harder that the local birds in the burbs of Pitsburgh. I worked WAy harder to nail this jake than the bird I got two years ago that won the overall here at RT. That bird scored 76 or so. He came in Gobbling all the way http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Up where took thi sbird I did not here a single gobble after they were off roost more than 15 mins. They just SHUT UP.
Anyway, I've got to get all the stuff submitted so we get credit. And good luck to you guys still hunting! http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I can only take 1 bird per season. So I am done for the year.

congrats on another bird Joe sounds like a nice one. I am done for the year with no birds under my belt, just wasn't a very good season, lots of birds they just didn't seem to be interested in anything. Sorry no points out of me. Good luck to anyone still hunting.
Nice bird, congrats Joe.
No birds for me this year, lots of pictures of them and they would answer the calls some, but never come in.
Yesterday was the last day for me and I got a bird to answering a little, but he wouldn't budge so I figured what the heck lets try to get close one more time. Well, he shut up, I crawled up a ladder on a deer stand to look around, while a cousin looked down a little drop off a little ways off. I see my cousin waving me over there, but when I get there we see the tom leaving along with his girlfriend.

That bites Tonya.... You certainly had plenty of trail cam pics of toms though this year. http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Yea it sure does Joe, but I still had fun and did get 2 yotes and a fox. I got more turkey pictures this season than ever before. Didn't even move the one camera for the entire season and it is still on the same tree right now. Even before the season I figured I could just sit close by the camera and it was a done deal, sat for hours by the camera and only thing that came by was the hens. Maybe they will be back next spring and I will have some better luck.
