Really though, there such nomadic travelers I've seen the same double bearded bird three miles from his morning roost. To say exactly, I couldn't tell ya? images/icons/confused.gif

I don't think anyone would know for sure, they can travel miles in a day or stay in the same area for weeks. I think it depends on the food supply. A tagged turkey was shot 30 plus miles from its release site in NY years back, that bird did some walking.

Also a lot depends on the terrain and the subspecies. Studies have shown that Merriams often travel up to 12 miles a day during the spring.

I have not seen that with the easterns I have watched. Most stay within a mile or so of where I've spotted them earlier during the spring.

During the fall they will move quite a distance as they flock up and settle in on available food sources.

When i pick my friend up for school, I see turkeys in the same spot every morning, then in the same feild after track. Easters i think travel from roost, to feeding, to water, to dust/ eat rocks, eat, roost. Thats the pattern i figured out during bow hunting. The same group maybe stays within 3/4 of a mile of the roost, thats arround here anyways

I agree with borch. It depends on the subspecies, terrain, and maybe even the area of the country you are hunting too. Down here during the spring, they will usually roost within 100 yards of the same spot every evening. The gobblers split up and spread out in February down here. The only exception are the jakes. They will still stick together for the most part. Most of the gobblers down here will stay within a mile or so of the same area. At times the area is smaller depending on what a particular bird does to stay in contact with available hens.
