Made some calls I made recently...........

Here are two for none other than Mr. Charlie Trotter. He graciously gave me the opportunity to put a few masterpieces of his own into a couple track players. Sorry for the camera brightness, but those are dogwood blossoms Charlie carved from deer antler inlaided into cocobolo pots, even got one small blossom inlaid in the peg head. Mr. Trotter is one of Illinois, the country's in fact, premier call builders and for him to ask one of me was quite humbling.

Here's a Thunderbird, known in many Indian cultures. The Dakota word for it is Kinyan meaning winged. Others called it Wakan for sacred power. The Chippewa stated that the eyes of the Thunderbird flashed with fire, his glance engendered lightning, and the flapping of his wings produced thunder.

The Lakota believed, and other tribes, that if you had a dream or vision of birds, you were destined to be a medicine man ( I guess that makes us a bunch of medicine men cuz I dream of wild turkeys quite often) ; but if you had a vision of the Thunderbird, it was your destiny to become something else; heyoka, or sacred clown, the Trickster. Like the Thunderbird, the heyoka were at once both feared and held in reverence.

So perhaps this Thunderbird call will be the "TRICKSTER" ta kill an ol' gobbler one day http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif In fact, that's what I'll call this...The Trickster Track Player http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's a mammoth ivory piece some Inuit carved honu's (sea turtles). Bought this piece long long time ago with intents to inlay into a call. When I got it in the mail, it scart me. Too many curves, ins and outs fer a rookie. Well, I found it again and gave it a shot. I think it came out pretty good for a noahcounthalfarsedcallmakerbutpurtygoodturkeykille rdatswipesdisfrodattamakedis.
