A friend that I recently met over the net wants to submit video footage for my next movie, but it's all shot on the new mini dvd-r disks. My question is, can it be edited like the mini dv (.AVI) format, and what format is it recorded in on the disks? Anyone work with them before?

I am pretty sure they record as MPEG2 files, not avi. AVI is a much more edit friendly format but MPEG2 can be edited with the right program. I have studio8 that is supposed to be able to edit MPEG files but I have never tried it. Do a google search for MPEG2 editing and you should be able to find something.

I'm using Adobe Premiere 6.5 and also using Pinnacle Studio 8. The video recorded are .vob files, and neither program can work with them. Any other workarounds http://www.realtree.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

PS...How do you like the Pinnacle program? I love mine.

Apparently these cams make ready to use dvd's they don't just encode to mpeg2. VOB can be turned back into avi or mpeg2 with the right program. I have included a couple of links that I found but have not used any of the products mentioned. You might also do a google search for "vob to avi" or "vob to mpeg2." Some cost money some are freeware. I would do the vob to avi if I was going to mess with it.

I like studio8, I have always thought for the money it was hard to beat. I don't have a need for the more expensive programs so it works well for me.
