Im here. Sorry about being so late. Season came in today. I will start hunting on Friday. I'll promise at least a doe. That's a given for me unless I hurt myself and can't hunt. This is either going to be a good year or a bad year for me b/c I'm hunting for my 1st P&Y. I've tagged deer larger than that, but it's been with a gun and this year is all about the bow for me. Hopefully I'm the last one to check in. I will attempt to be around a little more now that season has started. If you don't hear from me send me a PM to remind me to get back on here.

Bow Season has started here in Ohio, but I ain't got nothing yet. ;)
Got some good scrapes going on, seen a nice tall racked buck, probably an 8-point. But haven't closed the deal.

What about a name? Noone else has an opinion? I guess "Team 14" is ok, but it sure is boring.

Went out Monday morning and saw nothing but a coyote. I'm hoping it'll cool off before too long, and get the deer moving.

Good luck!

Been out a few times, but not much of anything moving. Have seen a few small bucks, none of which are legal for my area. Seen a few does, none within range.

Where is that cool weather that is suppose to go along with deer hunting :D

Hey,

Everyone now has the ability to upload their sinatures, directly from your computer, instead of having to host them somewhere, and Everyone now has the 30k limit for their signature upload, (instead of 13.0 k) directly from your computer. Also, everyone now has the WYSIWYG editor, even if they did not before. They can change it back if they want, but everyone now has it.

Everyone can thank Scott and Brittany (at Greyloon.com)

Right click on the picture(signature) and "Save image as....". choose a folder somewhere in your computer to save it in, such as "My Pictures", which is found in "My Documents", so you know where to find it when you upload.

Then go up to the toolbar in the forums and click on "User CP", and "Edit Signature" (upper left hand side in grey strip toolbar)
Then scroll down to "Option 2 - Upload Image From Your Computer" and click on the "Browse" button. Then go to the folder you have the picture stored in and click on the picture.
Then just click "Save Signature" .

That should take care of your signatures.

Well I had a rough one last night. I had a big 10 with kickers come in to my rattling horns. He got there so quick he was 15 yards away when I still had the horns in my hand. I couldn't get a shot, but I got him to come back in to 18 yards and again no shot. He finally gave me a chance at 38 yards. I put my 43 yard on him and let it fly. The arrow was tracking perfect and Whack. I was sure I smoked him. He ran off. I gave him 15 minutes and got down. I couldn't find my arrow. I got a couple buddies to help and immediately we found blood. We trailed him for 200 yards and then it looked like he stood for a little bit and then nothing the blood was completely gone. I checked my arrow and it was a passthrough. The arrow had fat on it along with good blood. I searched all day today and couldn't find him. I thought I hit a bit high but right on left to right. I called my processor to ask him where I could hit him to have fat and chunks of meat on the arrow. He informed me that I had hit the "dead zone". It's a area right above the vitals and just below the spine where nothing exists. I had heard about this but never had or knew anyone who had hit it. Because of the yardage and being only 17 foot up the shot was flat and completely passed through that zone. It's about the size of a baseball. I don't think I could have gotten anymore unlucky on that one. The shot looked perfect, but between me being 5 yards off with me estimate preshot and the deer dropping just a touch did me in. I'm about sick right now. The only thing that is good is that the processor said the deer will live from it.

It's just sick because I would estimate him to score between 150-160 gross and probably 225 ish field dressed. It's unfortunate, but I figured I would let you all know that the "dead zone" does exist. I'll be back out this weekend trying it again.

Too bad about the buck Hooiser sounds like he was a nice one, maybe if he did make you will get another chance at him. Starting to get a little cooler here, so maybe the deer around here will start moving some more. I will be back out again this weekend, maybe something will happen for me :)

Man that's just plain bad luck Hoosier, he sounded like a bruiser. Always heard of the deadzone but never had it happen personally nor to a friend.

Finally felt like hunting season this past weekend, alot cooler than it has been and the bugs were not bothering, but all I seen was a few yearlings and a couple of bucks that are not legal to shoot in my area. Been getting a few more nice buck pics on the cameras, so they are starting to move around a little more.

i smoked a doe the other day, will post the pictures in a few days. Then today i videotaped my buddy smoking a doe of his own! In the last two weeks we have shot 9 deer between the 5 of us that stick together and 11 for the year so far. I still have a few more days of vacation to try to get my big boy just too bad it seems that rut has not really kicked it into high gear yet. Will check back with the pics in a few days.

Whoohoo! We'll have points on the board now!! Congrads Remington!

Went out yesterday and had a pleasant morning. Hunted a spot where we don't have any blinds/stands, so I just hid myself best I could along a field edge. It was getting later, about 8:25 and I could hear something crashing around in a cornfield. 5 minutes later there's a buck walking my way across an open field. He's just a small 6 or 8, 90" or so. I turned and watched him enter the woods not 15 yards from me. He was continuing on his way so I thought since I'm not going to shoot, I'll see what happens when I grunt at him. Grunted twice, he stopped and turned and came around to my other side. First time I ever played with the grunt tube on a buck. So that was interesting. Haven't seen anything else though.

Congrats on the doe remington. The deer around my parts just are not moving that well, still too darn hot here. I hunted my rear end off this last weekend without any success. We have shotgun season coming in here next weekend. I'm going to try to get out this Thursday before that happens b/c once it does if you don't score on opening weekend your in trouble until late muzzleloader season.

Guys I shot a doe on Saturday morning. I will get her registered later tonight. I came very close to shooting a nice 8, but I know there is bigger around so I let him walk. He has about 8 inch G-2's and is about 20 inches wide. I might kick myself later, but I think he is only 2.5 years old and it was opening morning. Just too early to shoot him.

Real Quick Update on my season.

My dad had Mon-Tues off. Monday it rained all day long, and we saw a total of 4 deer for the entire day. The only break we took was for lunch. Hard to believe it was only 4 for the first day. I could've shot a small 6-8, at 30 yards, but I'm waiting on the big'n. He was broadside though, and he had the biggest body for such a young buck. Going to be a Hoss next year if he makes it.
Tuesday, we hunted around our house. Zippo. Had some fresh tracks from last night likely, but no such luck. We broke for lunch and decided we would head to an Urban Zone so if we could grab us a Doe or two. Ran and bought urban tags, and we were off.
Well it turned out good for me, nailed a Doe! I didn't have the camera with me so the pics will not be very good. (Probably be of it hanging in the garage)
I'll get it posted tomorrow though.
Hope ya'll are having good luck!

remington870
11-27-2007, 08:22 PM

Gus
11-27-2007, 09:34 PM
I was out all last week and the rut just started around my parts last week and all the shooter bucks I did see were not slowing down for me to take any shots. I have to work this Saturday, but might be able to squeeze in an afternoon hunt and then I am thinking I will just stay out all day Sunday. In a couple more weeks I will have another full week of hunting, so something will be going down :D

nothing new to report here. I have shot 2 does this year so far and i have a weekend of shotgun left 4 muzzleloader days left and i have until the beginning of February to bow hunt. However, work is not letting me get to the woods right now to get me my buck. Will let you know if i get a chance and succeed!

Gus
12-14-2007, 08:13 PM
Nothing new from me, been seeing a few deer but nothing worth shooting in my books. I will be out everyday starting tomorrow when I get to my place until a day or so after Christmas. well sorry guys i couldnt connect this year...shot a nice 6 point and searched for a combined total of 12 hours with no luck...had good blood for a while and found a chunk of bone but no deer i was literally on my hands an knees threw the woods looking for new blood, brought the dog in and everything...so no points from me this year sorry again and good luck to the rest of you!

hoosierhunter
12-28-2007, 06:53 PM
no news on my front, although my buddy shot the big 10 i hit in bow this last weekend. He was a beauty and field dressed at 215 that late in the year. He probably would have went 240 went I shot him....

12-29-2007, 07:25 PM
Well team I had computer problems all this week and was without internet. So here's an update...
Muzzleloader stared up the 27th and the last day is tomorrow. I had no shots the first and second day at anything, bummer, then my moment came when two does came trotting across a field at me...POP! Sounded like just my cap blew but the bullet came to but went maybe 5 feet out. Reloaded and not long later had 2 more come across a field lined up and shot...a better BOOM! but still not much coming out?? We narrowed it down to me using my quick loads from last year and most likely they got damp and so the powder was not burning real well. But it should be all OK now. Only saw 1 deer all today and no one got a shot. Then on the drive home we were nearly hitting them things saw like 14 right by the roads. Unreal.
Last day is tomorrow and I'm going to try my best, if not there's always the rest of bow season.

Gus
01-05-2008, 10:52 PM
We can another doe to our list :). Went out this afternoon to the oat patch once again. The wind was blowing pretty good and the deer didn't come out as early as they usually do, but finally I seen some in the brush. Three yealings came on out, but the two does stayed back. Finally they also decided it would be alright to come on out and I picked out the biggest one and when she turned broadside, my AR15 spoke and she dropped in her tracks.

When I get back home and on my on computer next week I will post up the pics. Tommorrow is the last day for me for this season, so we will see what shows up :D

well my season ended uneventfully. I can't remember if I posted this so sorry if I did, but if you all remember I hit a really nice buck in early bow season. Well I got a phone call from my buddy saying he got a nice one on the second to last day of muzzleloader. I went and got my ranger to help him get it out. When I walked up on the deer I immediately noticed the big split G-2 on the left side. I told him that darn that looks alot like the deer I shot. We got to looking at him and sure enough he had the hole in him high and a little back. It had healed shut, but had the hole on both sides. I was extremely excited to know that he didn't die a miserable death. He had busted himself up pretty good since I shot him, but with his full rack he was a mid 140's gross. He dressed with his head off at 179 lbs. That means he was 190 with the head. They say that deer run off 30-40 pounds during the rut. That would have put him when I shot him at field dressed around 220-230 lbs. That's pretty good for Indiana. We definitely had a few drinks to celebrate him getting that deer. Even though I didn't get him, it was nice to know that someone who hunts as hard as I did got him in the end. I will see about getting some pics up of him if I can.

Sorry the season didn't work out for you Hoosier. That buck you discribed sounds similar to one I was hoping to connect with this year. Pretty wild how he healed over from your shot in him, but like you said at least he didn't suffer. Maybe next year.
I got a trail cam pic of a decent one that made it past the gun seasons, it's hopeful to know that there's still a good one out there that might end up as my bow kill. We'll see.

I also found out that my neighbor shot the decent 8 I passed on opening morning, so thats a bit of a downer, but for most people he was a shooter so I can't be mad. Other than that, I didn't hear about too many big ones going down around me which is nice to hear. Hopefully next season will be even better than this one.

Well not much going on here. I was hoping to go for a hunt Tuesday after seeing a nice buck on the property Saturday, but it got to be like a whiteout about 1:00 on so I didn't go out. My chances are running down though.
