Hey team; Canuck2 checking in.

ranch, nice start for our bunch. Good luck on a big buck now.

General info : I'm in southern British Columbia right on the WA state border. I hunt mostly whitetails but occasionally take a mule deer too. Next week I'll be gone for awhile on a moose hunt and hope to come home with a plethora of steaks. Usually I bow hunt but most activity will be with rifle this year as I'm still coming back from shoulder surgery.

Here's a sampling of the animals I've hunted.

OK, how about a team name? My thinker isn't firing on enough cylinders right now (bad cold) to get too creative. Suggestions?

Hi guys. Just checking in to say Hi and let you all know a little about myself. I do most of my hunting in Southern IL, but i do hunt in Missouri and Michigan also. I have high hopes for this year since i have bow, gun, and muzzleloader tags for IL. I go to Michigan for a week of hunting for bow and gun and i also have a bow hunt scheduled for Pike County IL for late december. I am currently hunting in Missouri, but all we are seeing are some does here and there. To hot to really get on them yet. I did have a small 8 pointer on me opening morning, but he was spooked off by my brothers coming out of the woods. Not really for sure if i would have taken him or not, but that made the decision pretty easy. LOL. Well good luck to all and i will be sure to check in on a regular basis.

Congrats on the doe Ranchand99....

Well guys. Next Monday is my opening day of IL bow season. It is suppose to cool down this weekend so hopefully it stays that way for Monday. I just found out some bad news about the state land where we hunt. They are not allowing anyone to leave a treestand on the property overnight anymore. This means you can pretty well only use climbers. It's ok for half of my treestand locations, but all my early season stands are in areas where you can't find a tree to climb. I am starting to check into light ladder stands that can be packed in and out. I don't really understand the rule and i have sent the ILDNR a e-mail asking if they could explain to me why they come to that decision. I called the farmer of the land we hunt in MO and he tells me that he is picking all the corn starting on Friday and finishing Saturday morning. I am trying to get home early on friday to be able to hunt in the evening. Well, I just thought i would give everyone a hunting update. How is everyone else's season going. If it hasn't opened then when does it open?

monsterbucks1
09-26-2007, 09:33 AM
Good luck next week, sorry to hear about them not letting you keep them there over night. There might be only a select few light ladder stand out there. I know summits makes a packable ladder.

Hey guys Im checkin in. Sorry I didnt even realize that we had our teams yet. I've already past on some nice bucks and smoked an antelope last week so Im in the zone. Good luck to all.

Canuck2
09-26-2007, 09:27 PM
Good to see you, monsterbucks1 and Hunter 36. Nice going on the antelope, 36. Any pictures?

Looks like we have most of the team accounted for now. Here's hoping the holdouts will sign their contracts soon.;)

I'll be leaving on a moose hunt early Saturday and will be gone for a week to ten days. Really excited about it and hope to have a few pictures to share when I get back. Just so you know why I'm not posting for awhile.

Good luck out there, mates.

Wilfinator
09-27-2007, 01:21 AM
Checking in; this is the first time I've ever done something like this. Never entered a contest in my 40 something years. I've only been hunting for 4 years (Buckee is my hunting partner/mentor), so am still learning the ropes.
Our season started at the beginning of September where I live on Vancouver Island Canada. Been a little late getting my tags (we have an abundance of Black tails here), but I am salivating at the idea of getting out there. Hope I can help the team with a good buck or two.

rad_112176
09-27-2007, 07:12 AM
Thanks monsterbucks1 for the info. I will be sure to check into the summit stand.

Hello there Wilfinator and Hunter36. Welcome aboard. It sounds like we have a pretty good team going here.

Good luck on that hunt Canuck. We have been talking on going on a moose hunt for the past couple of years. We are going on our first elk hunt next year and trying to decide if we go for moose or caribou next. Be sure to get us some nice pics.

craig mack
09-27-2007, 12:09 PM
Welcome Wilfinator. I know Buckee likes to hunt with knives (lol) what do you hunt with?

Canuck2
09-27-2007, 01:31 PM
Wilfinator, good to see you here. What craig mack said - buckee teaching you to hunt like that?:D

rad, where will you be going after your elk next year?

rad_112176
09-27-2007, 05:25 PM
Canuck, I am guessing you meant " for the elk hunt next year ". We are going to Colorado with a couple of friends of ours and doing a self guided hunt. We won't be working from scratch since they have been going out for the last few years. They have had some awesome bow kills the last couple of years. They probably have a 75% success rate which i thought was pretty good for a do it yourself hunt. I don't know all the details yet, but i am excited. Like i said earlier, we don't really know what we are going to hunt after that. I guess it all depends on how much money we save up. I know that the caribou hunts i have heard about people going on are fairly cheep, but the moose hunts can get up there pretty quick. Plus alot of areas you have to earn points to hunt and we haven't even really started checking on it yet. It all will be with a bow no matter where i go.

rad_112176
09-27-2007, 05:28 PM
LOL. Canuck, I just reread your post and i see that you meant going after your elk. Don't i feel like a fool.

deerkillr777
09-27-2007, 08:45 PM
we need a name whats some names here guys i liek any of the one listed befor

Canuck2
09-27-2007, 10:01 PM
Ya, I guess we need a name. There's some good ones in the bunch listed before. I'll throw one in; how about 'Venison-R-Us"

If someone wants to consolidate all the suggestions, maybe we can have a quick straw vote.

No problem, rad.:D Have you looked into moose hunts in Newfoundland? I think there's some good ones and not too expensive by comparison to other places. 75% on do-it-yourself archery elk is very good. You should have a great hunt when that one comes around.

Wilfinator
09-28-2007, 12:38 AM
I have an older bow which I have yet to use. I normally hunt with a mossberg bolt action 12 gauge that my late father in law gave to me. He bought it when he was 16, so the gun is well over 50 years old. Still looks and shoots great though. I am still a little green for the knives though lol

deerkillr777
09-28-2007, 02:40 PM

Canuck2
09-28-2007, 03:47 PM
Well crew, this will be my last post for about 10 days. I'll be leaving before dawn to head to moose camp. Good luck to all of you in all your hunting-related activities; I expect to see lots of venison on the pole when I get back.:D

Hopefull I can connect this year after a few years of being oh so close. Season start this Monday here in KS so I might do an evening hunt if its not to warm.

Hi guys. Sorry i have been out for a few days. Spent the weekend on stand in MO and hunted opening day in IL. The weather has been way to warm and with the full moon last weekend it had the patterns all messed up. I am going to MI to bow hunt this weekend and will be in the stand in IL for most of next week. Pretty sure i will be able to get us 5 points on the the board within the next week. I have only seen 2 bucks on the move so far and both were small basket racks. I will be sure to keep my computer with me next week to keep in touch. Backstrap Fever sounds like a good name to me. I say we go with it.

I'm happy to report that I got my first buck of the season this morning! It is a young 2x2 that will look wonderful next to the potatoes and gravy. We were right in the middle of a nasty storm that blew all night and the rain and wind were still howling this morning. Didn't think I would even see a deer let alone shoot one. By the way, I like backstrap fever the best so far.

I third Backstrap Fever. Hope everyones season is going good. I will finally be able to make it out this coming weekend. The temps have been in the 80's and this year I'm being extra safe by not even going into the area until it cools down. I hung all of my stands in July so I'm on edge just a waitin. The weekend after this coming I will be heading to the western part of Kansas. My girlfriends dad has a few places out there I can hunt for the couple of days I will be out their. Would like to try and stalk a mulie but if a nice WT comes by its gonna be on.

Hey,

Everyone now has the ability to upload their sinatures, directly from your computer, instead of having to host them somewhere, and Everyone now has the 30k limit for their signature upload, (instead of 13.0 k) directly from your computer. Also, everyone now has the WYSIWYG editor, even if they did not before. They can change it back if they want, but everyone now has it.

Everyone can thank Scott and Brittany (at Greyloon.com)

Right click on the picture(signature) and "Save image as....". choose a folder somewhere in your computer to save it in, such as "My Pictures", which is found in "My Documents", so you know where to find it when you upload.

Then go up to the toolbar in the forums and click on "User CP", and "Edit Signature" (upper left hand side in grey strip toolbar)
Then scroll down to "Option 2 - Upload Image From Your Computer" and click on the "Browse" button. Then go to the folder you have the picture stored in and click on the picture.
Then just click "Save Signature" .

That should take care of your signatures.

Hi guys. Congrats on the kills. I shot a small spike while in Michigan last weekend and i will get it entered either today or tomorrow. The area we hunt is way over hunted so anything goes up there. I was hoping this morning that i was entering something much bigger, but no luck. I shot a 130 class 8 pointer in IL this morning but had no luck in locating him. I gave him a few hours and when i tried to pick up the blood trail in vanished after about 100 yrds. The blood was a bright red color and there was a good amount to start off with. I am going back out tomorrow to walk some other areas next to the river to see if he maybe bedded up there. The shot was a quartering too shot and when my arrow penetrated just inside the shoulder i thought it was game over. I have been sick about it all evening. Maybe i can get lucky tomorrow and locate him. I will let you all know what i find.

Hey guys, I walked numberous miles today trying to locate that buck but had no luck. I am not sure where he could have gone and am more upset knowing that he is probably dead somewhere and we are just unable to locate him. I went out this morning and hunted before starting to look for him and seen 3 does and a spike buck. We are going to pull out of that area for a few days to let it settle down and going to hunt a stand that i hung a couple of weeks ago and just haven't had the correct wind to hunt it. Congrats to your boy Craig Mack. Good to see another young man getting into hunting. Can't wait to see the pics. Were you able to see the buck deerkillr? Hopefully you can bust him instead in the morning.

Craig Mack, a hearty congratulations to your son.

Thanks caunck, turns out we got 2.5-3" of rain and most of it fell right about sunrise. It's still raining and thundering now as well. If it storms most of the day till this evening it should be good hunting if I can get out there. I'm thinkin the deer will hunker down most of the day to stay out of the weather. What's everybodys opinion on this? I've always been curious how T-storms affect deer movement.

Hey team I got an 8pt this morning.Awesome story.20 minutes after daylight I saw a small 5 or 6pt 100yds behind me.I couldn't do anything. He went back in the way he came out.Nothing happened for the next 2 hours then it all broke loose.

A doe and yearling came down the trail in a hurry, and feeding along.I ranged them at about 230.In range for what they say my omega, and omega BDC scope can shoot, but too far for my comfort. They exited the trail, and about 5 minutes later a wide, but short tined buck steps out at 218yds.I grunted at him,and that's when he stopped so I could range him.He stepped off before I could make my mind up.

Only 5 minutes later another small buck(maybe the one I saw after daylight) came across the road.I could hear chasing going on over in the palmetto's.I had some golden estrous out,and the wind was blowing to them, but apparently they were right on the doe.

Only a few minutes later I see an 8pt bird-doggin in the road following the does trail. He zig zagged all over, and started off of the road when I grunted a few times like I was chasing. He whirled around and started running right towards me!Just like on TV..lol

He ran about 50yds,and stopped to look around,I grunted again, and he started sprinting my way.He ran another 50yds,and slowed down to a fast walk.Still coming in my direction. He had his nose up,and was coming to the golden estrous on a string.

At 135yds.(35yds from the golden estrous)he turned broadside, and I took the shot. The 250gr shockwave powered by 150gr of pyrodex pellets made a great hit,and he only went 30yds!This is the first big buck I've grunted up and it was very exciting if you can tell.

He is an average buck for around here.3.5yr old 8pt and weighed 152#.But the experience wasn't average..lol..Here he is.

Today has just been unbelievable!!!I decided to climb close to where I saw all the other deer crossing this morning.I had just pulled up my gun,and was reaching for my long sleeve shirt when I caught movement in the open pines.I got my Omega up and found the deer at the edge of the path.I saw it was a doe and that was good becuase that's what I was after.

She was 108yds when she stopped for a second and I hammered her.I thought I heard her pile up.Robbie called me because he was worried something had happened since I had just went to the stand.I told him I had shot a doe,and thought I heard her crash. He said he heard a pop so I had hit her.

I hung up the phone,re-loaded my omega, and pulled my long sleeve out.I laid it across my stand.Pulled my short sleeve off,and when I looked up I saw another deer coming at 62 yds! So,here I am with no shirt on.. :D and she steps out.I take the shot, and she is hit good.I hear her pile up,so I decide that is plenty of deer for me today.

I trailed them, and neither one went over 50yds.The shockwaves worked flawlessly. Here I am with my 2 does.

Hey guys, Nice buck and does Ranchhand. Looks like you are a busy man now. I hunted both saturday and sunday morning and seen a bunch of does and had a spike and a 6 point at 8 yrds from my stand. Still holding out for a 120" or better. May take a small call buck later in the year if i don't get anything. Me and my 2 brothers did a grid walk today after we got down trying to take one last look for that buck. Didn't see anything. I had a couple of spots that i thought he might bed up and didn't want to go the rest of the year wondering. This is the last time we are going to look for him and let the area settle down and clear our scent out of there. The rut looks like it is going to kick in early this year around here. We have seen a few bucks trailing does already. They were only following, but they were acting like they didn't want to leave them. Does anyone know what the winning score was last year? I can see us getting to mid 50's and maybe even in the 60's at this rate. LOL. I can see deerkillr putting us some points on the board soon. Go get em.

Well guys it stormed like I had thought it would this weekend, but I did make it out once with the girlfriend. I hung two stands next to each other in a real safe spot for her to come with me periodically and so my buddy can film. We saw two does and a little one saturday night but they stayed out about 80yds. The weather is finally dropping in temps here so, depending on how many classes I don't go to (sshhh) I should be able to go a bit more. Supposed to be lows in the 40's and 30's within the next week.

Good luck all

Just checking in to see if anyone has been hunting much this week? There is suppose to be a cold front pushing through later this week, but unfortuneatly i am working in North Carolina this week and won't make it out till this weekend. My hunting will be limited to the weekends for the next 5 weeks while we are working on this job. The good news is my schedule looks to be pretty relaxed from Thanksgiving till the end of season ( Jan 12th ). I do have a week scheduled in Michigan for gun season here in a few weeks so i guess it ain't to bad. Where does everyone live and hunt at? I will list mine below. Talk to you later.

Live : Southern Illinois
Hunt : Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri

Ranch, you are a killing machine woohoo, nice der my friend. Well team I had 3 does come to me Sat. morning and I had one lined up but there was this one little sapling in the way off my shot and could not risk on taking it. But I took care of that little bugger when I got out of the tree. Sun morning I did not see any until later in the afternoon but way to far. So it has been really good sign so far this year on one piece of property that I hunt. Got work doubles all week until Sat morning but hopefully The big one Shows up. Good luck team I will be checking in all week. Kevin

Ranch, a big congratulations to your wife. That is a very nice looking buck. Now, get at it!:D

I made it out this morning and saw plenty of does, both mule deer and whitetails. They're off limits at the moment, however. Looks like the bucks are coming out only after dark. Rut will start kicking in soon, so that will be just fine.

Craig, We hunt in Calcasca county not to far from Morris Town. We have gone there for years and camp on state land. We have 6 to 8 guys that stay in our camp off of Fletcher Rd and then a few other guys that we know that stay in camps not to far from us. We have done pretty decent that past few years. I took a nice 8 pt with my pistol last year and my dad took a 130 class 10 pt about 4 yrs ago. That area has good deer in it, but it is hunted pretty hard and then they clear cut areas every year so you have to change your stand locations almost yearly. We really don't go for the big bucks. Getting my brothers and my dad togather along with a few friends is what it is all about. Ok, maybe a little beer drinking also. LOL.

Craig, There always seems to be the friends that show up around deer season wondering how the season is going. LOL. I usually have a few does in the freezer already, but i am trying to hold out this year. It has been kinda fun though. I have some awesome footage on my camcorder of deer all around my stand and even some right below it. I am going to start taking my camera out with me so i can get some pics that i can post. We are going to Illinois to hunt this weekend since they just had the severe storms yesterday and the winds were in the 20 to 30 mph range all day today. Suppose to be 43 in the morning so i think the deer will be on the move. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Ranch, Nice buck. I went out Saturday Morning and had a pretty good sit. I seen 17 deer and approx. 30 turkeys. No cugers this time. I seen 9 different bucks ranging from a little spike to a 150 class 10 point. I had the 10 point about 15 yrds from me through a tree and he was walking right down the trail that opens up at my shooting lane at 10 yrds. He stopped about 5 yrds shy of the shooting lane and looked across the grass opening at which time i also looked across to see a decent 8 pointer and another buck that i couldn't see his rack very well step out into a opening. Once he seen that 8 pointer he took off on a dead run right after that buck and never let up. Definately a great day to be in the woods. All the bucks were either chasing does or following not to far behind a doe. We are taking the camper up this weekend and spending 3 days of hard hunting. I have 2 more good weekends of low hunting preasure before i go to michigan and the first weekend of gun season kicks in. Always a little harder to get on them after the first part of gun season.

Well Team, I had the best weekend of my entire life and a little disheartning at the same time. Sat. morning started out buetiful nice morning put out some Doe scent just in case Mr. big comes along. About 2 hours into the stand I heard a galloping coming down the trail crashing into the woods near my stand, Scarring the hek out of me I turned around to see what the crashing was and there he was MR. BIG a HUGE 10 point what a body all the right features of a old mature buck sagging belly chest and neck were just one big solid mass with this enourmous Rack with a ghostly looking face. I always get rattled when deer come in but this one was just not no ordinary heart pumper leg shaker he was a heart stopper. He was at 25 yards when he stopped a caught scent of the Doe scent Gave me a perfect shot Opp. I come to full draw and look through my peep but couldn't, the peep was twisted so I could not see through by this time he is still looking my way and I could not make any evasive moves so I thought to myself I have practiced with out peep and with such huge body mass I know I could get a great hit, so the Gold Tip with Muzzy sailed on a straight and perfect journey until Mr. BIG dropped of the sound of the string, right over his back. If he would of never dropped I would be posting some truly monster pics. But the good thing is he took off about 40 yards then just started walking again like nothing happened. So sunday come along same spot a little earlier after 45 mins in the stand a nice 6 point come's in same trail Nice shot opp. I was saying Meat in the freezer time, everything came together, peep was good, Gold tip Connected this timebehind the shoulder good hit. waited an hour got down started looking found my arrow, but No blood I looked for 5 hrs no blood whats so ever. I have never had this happen to me, I felt heartbroken not even a track to find I am going to do another search this afternoon for a final look. Sorry for this being long. Hopefully everybody else is doing well.

I went out to the western part of the state this past weekend to chase some mulies. I saw one buck bed down in a Walk In Hunting Area (private land the state leases for hunting) but the bad thing was that this particular patch doesnt open up till Nov.1st. He was a real tall guy prolly go in the 170ish range. I also saw a couple of whitetails one about 125 and the other about 140. The 140 was chasing already by the way. Gonna go out tonight and a little more often since I don't have any tests for a couple of weeks. Good luck all.

The scores have not been updated in over a week so i don't know if we are in the lead still ranch. I am pretty sure i will upgrade, i just don't know how much. When i go to MI i have to shoot something with 4 or more points on one side, and in IL i am holding out until i get a decent buck. If it gets late in the season i will take a smaller mature deer, but it won't be until after muzzleloader. The bucks were moving hard last weekend and it has been raining all week where we hunt in IL so i am excited about the potential this weekend.

P.S. - I talked with buckee about creating us a signature to go at the bottom of our posts. He is coming up with one for us. Once he creates one will everyone please be sure to thank him.

Geez, you guys have been having some real adventures - both positive and not-so-positive. Regardless, keep having a good time out there.

I headed off to an area about 100 miles from home last Friday night, where I had drawn a mule deer doe tag starting Oct 20 (Saturday). My 2 cousins live there and we all went out; no special tag needed for bucks as they were open for everyone. Instead of finding me a doe, we ran into a group of 4 bucks. We each got one - a 2x2, a 2x3, and a 3x4. Not a brow tine in the lot.

Two of the 4 spintered off and headed casually through the sage brush after my cousins had shot theirs. I decided, instead of looking for a doe, I may as well try for a buck as well. After the remaining pair disappeared over a rise, I took off after them. Apparently they weren't too spooked because I found this one bedded down in the sage brush. Only his antlers stuck up and it was cool spotting them. I whistled and he stood up; the shot was only 125 yards.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v16/Canuck2/PICT0500.jpg

Last year I picked up a gambrel with internal scale at Walmart. According to it, the buck was 220 lb with just the guts removed. Having used my mule deer tag on a buck, I had to come home without the doe I figured I'd be getting. So I'll enter this in the contest for us in the next day or so; I still have to take a picture of the tag.:)

Hey guys, Well i missed my bid chance again this year. I seen alot of bucks over Saturday and Sunday, but no shooters. I went out yesterday morning and at 7:00 ( 15 min after daylight ) i had a nice 10 point come in at 15 yrds. I miss judged the yardage and between that and the buck dropping i shot right over him. He wasn't real big, probably between 125" and 130", but he sure would have looked good in the back of the truck. The rut is in the searching part now and should kick into the chasing part by next weekend. I plan on sitting all day Saturday. I was able to get a couple of pics of the deer that walked by, but it was so foggy they are a little blurry. I will post them after i download them on to my computer.

Nice going everybody... to be honest with ya'll I have been out only a handful of time compared to past years. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the whole college thing. This is the week I pulled a state park bowhunt through the state but I also have a paper due, a quiz, and 3 tests. I went out this morning to my usual spot and didnt see anything but squirrels. Just got done typing my paper and now I have three more tests to study for, but Thursday night and Friday morning have my name all over them. Next week for thanksgiving I am heading back out to the western part of the state to chase some open country deer. I at least want to add 5pts to our score.

Hey guys, Just got to my dads house form our annual hunting trip. We had a great time. The weather didn't want to cooperate for the first couple of days, but on the 3rd day i was able to connect on a decent 8 pointer (6 more points for the team). This is a area that we usually only get spikes and 1 1/2 old deer so was kinda surprised when i seen him. I sat up in my same tree that i located last year and on this stand was my ninth time sitting in the stand over the past 2 years and my 3 buck taken in those 9 times. The stand over looks a area that was clear cut and is against some mature pines. The funny thing is that i can see over 800 yrds from this stand and have shot all 3 bucks at 8 yards, 9 yards and 12 yards. He came and gave me a 12 yrd quartering hard away shot and i dropped him right in his tracks. My little brother shot a doe the evening before and was bragging about entering it for his team and that he was making up ground on us. LOL. I won't be able to post pictures until Monday evening when i get back home, but i might be able to get my brother to do it tomorrow. Congrats on the buck Hunter36. That is a true trophy. Nice upgrade Wilfinator. Tarbaby and Monsterbucks1 we are pushing for you guys. We will see if we can push some of our luck your guys way.

Well guys I just got back from my trip. I shot a 5 pointer on thursday. I will post some pics when I get a chance. This was a pretty dissapointing season for me this year but I got some meat for the freezer. I shot a nice doe with my bow that we couldnt find. We had a great blood trail for 100 yards, I mean she was bleeding good, and then nothing. We looked for a long time and came up empty handed. And then on my last night I hunted out of my tree stand and missed a beauty of a 8 point. My friend shot it a half hour later. I will post some pics soon.

craigmack, nice going. Looking forward to seeing the pictures and hearing all the details.

The weekend here was a blast, but no deer on the pole. Twice I drew on nice 4x4's and was busted both times - once at 28 yards and then at 10 yards. The rut is in full swing and I expect to have more adventures yet.

Hey guys, Here are a few pictures of the hunting trip. I did get my upgraded deer registered and i believe we are still in the lead when they get all of our deer entered. Way to go team and hopefully we can rack the score up a little higher on them. I am bowhunting all weekend in IL and have my IL gun and muzzleloader tags to fill the next couple of weekends. The rut has been a little slow kicking in everywhere it sounds like so hoping to catch some chasing this weekend. Good luck canuck and hope to see some more pics.

Picture taken from my stand on a cold morning. I can see probably over 800 yrds, but i shot the buck at 12 yrds. Good stand location. LOL.

LOL. It's ok craig. We are just needing some good stories to keep us going. I am heading to IL this weekend for the second weekend of gun season. I won't be shooting a buck unless it is a 120 class or better. We talked to the guys that run the ranch in Pike County, IL that we are hunting the day after Christmas for 5 days. They said they are seeing good bucks and alot of there better bucks have made it past the first gun season due to the late rut activity. Good news for us. Hopefully i will have a good update after this weekend. Hope everyone is seeing deer and hope to hear some good news from you other guys any day now. Good luck and keep at it.

Got us an upgrade this morning, gang. This guy strolled by me at 30 yards at 7:15. Double lunged him, he trotted half heartedly for less than 100 yards, then I just managed to see him drop. I waited 1/2 an hour anyway before going to him, but he was dead long before that. And I guess that puts paid to my season for another year.

I've entered him c/w tag in the entry thread already.

Congrats Monsterbucks and Canuck. I went out for the IL second weekend gun season this past weekend. I seen a couple decent 8 pointers and some small other bucks, but nothing worth using my tag for. I talked to a few other guys that hunt the same area and they just weren't moving very well. I am heading back this weekend for Muzzleloader and plan on taking one of those 8 pointers if i see them again. I have been doing alot of bow hunting in the same area and purchased my turkey tag because of all the turkey's i have been seeing. They kinda disappeared for a while, but i did see a couple of flocks this weekend and one with a 10 to 11 inch bierd. Wouldn't mind sticking a arrow in him. Good luck everyone.

Hey crew, I just did a quick tally of our entries-in-waiting and not-yet-credited points. If everything were to be taken care of, I think we'd have 83 and that puts us first. Well fellas I still have a lot of upgrading to do I see. Over thanksgiving break I was drawn back on a real wide deer but he was real young. His tines werent very tall and he was still pretty small bodied. I wasnt sure whether to take him or not but when I got him stopped it was behind a bush so that made up my mind for me. Hoping I can still stick at least a doe, not only for the team but for my freezer. I have finals next week but once christmas break rolls around I should be able to make it out a few more times. I'll do my best for ya'll.
Congrats to everyone with kills this season as well.

Hey there tarbaby. Sounds like it was a close one. The good thing is he will be bigger next year. I looked at the points and it appears that we are short one point from team #10. They have a upgrade that isn't entered yet so that doe would do us some good. I guess everyone can tell how competitive me and Canuck are. LOL. I am sure you all are just as bad though. LOL. I am trying to get off Friday to head to IL early. I don't think i have had enough hunting time so i feel i deserve the day off. LOL. Now if i can only get my workers to take the raines for a couple of days. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Hey guys, Well i finished off the IL gun and muzzleloader season with no deer. Seen a couple small 8 pointers along with numerous other small bucks, but nothing i wanted to use the tag on. I only had a couple of chances at taking does, but decided just to wait until the late winter anterless season to go back and fill the tags. We did see one nice 8 pointer ( 120" class ) on Saturday while my brother was pushing a small patch of tall grass to see if we could get one up and moving. I couldn't get the gun on him in time and when he stopped he was a little out of my range with open sights on my muzzleloader. The weather was horrible all weekend. I hunted in the rain most of the weekend and the deer just didn't want to get moving until late. The good news is there is a bad storm brewing in the area today and i think it is going to be lifting tonight. I am going to head back to try and bow hunt maybe in the morning before i have to head to work. I did see them turkeys every evening at 4 o'clock sharp so i am hoping they continue with that schedule. It is getting to that point in the season where it is harder to get on those big boys so some snow would really be nice. I have the Pike county IL hunt to go on the day after christmas so maybe I can get a wallmounter yet. Keep the drive up guys and lets make it a good ending to the season.

LOL. So i guess that buck really had the last word then. I did the same thing a couple of years ago when i was dragging a deer out and twisted my ankle. It wasn't as bad as yours, but it did put me down for a little bit. Hope the scan goes ok and keep us updated.

Hey guys, How has everyone been doing? Anybody still able to get out? I went out last weekend and seen a nice 8 point shooter buck, but couldn't get him to come in. Just thought i would check on everyone and see how you are doing.

Hey Canuck, Yeah it is pretty quite. Hope everyone is getting ready for a good holiday. I have seen that same buck 4 times now. I managed to get a pic of him yesterday, but it is a little blurry. I will try and post it some time this weekend. I was out yesterday evening and seen him along with a 4 point and another 8 point that probably had 17" of spread. Not much length on that one though. I got a better look at the buck i have been after and i am only thinking he is in the 115" range. I think i might still take him now just because my whole hunt has seem to be after him and it would be a true enjoyment to know i actually outsmarted him. LOL. Hope everyone has a good and safe holiday.

Hey guys, Well i just got back from our trip from Pike County. The deer activity wasn't all that good 2 out of the 3 day hunt, but we had a blast. The lodge was spectacular and the guides were a blast to hang out with. Both me and my brother had to pass on some smaller bucks that wouldn't make the 130" minimum. For some reason we could get the bucks to come right by our stand locations, but the does just kept out of range. Now if it was a buck hunt i am sure the does would have been 10 yrds. LOL. We are debating going back in early October next year for a hunt. Sounds like that is the best time. We ate like kings for 4 straight day and i think i may have put on about 10 lbs. Everything was home made down to the deserts and the bread. I think the biggest deer that i seen the weekend was a main frame 10 that had a sticker off of his G2. He probably would have gone in the 150" to 160" range. Either way i will say that the money was worth every dime spent and i would do it in a heartbeat again even knowing that the result may be the same. It's not always about what you kill, but more of the memories that come from it. My camera was messing up so i wasn't able to get any pics of deer that turned out, but i did get some pics of my stand locations. I will try to post some of them and some of the lodge also. Hope everyone had a great holiday and be safe for new years.

Hey guys, Looks like everyone's season is coming to a close. My IL buck tag expired today and i couldn't get back today to hunt. I did go on Tuesday and seen 3 smaller bucks playing in the wheat field. I also had a couple of hunters come walking through right at 4:00. Gotta love public land. I am going out this weekend for the extended doe season, but that won't help us any in points. I know all to well how many points team 10 has. My little brother is on the team. LOL. We all made a good run at it though and would have all of you back on my team next year in a heart beat. rad_112176

His logon is SuperMn and he got a doe. He had some other good chances but he only had a doe tag for IL so he passed on some smaller bucks that he could of had. He posts alot of pics in the photography thread. Me, him, and my older brother do alot of hunting togather throughout the year and create memories every year that i will charish. I am pretty lucky with my job that i am the boss so i can take off when i want and my older brother owns his company with my little brother working for him so needless to say we can open our schedules pretty easy for hunting.
