I had an appointment for a haircut during lunch, so I swung by McD's on my way. Of course, they pulled the "Will you please pull up and we'll bring it out to you." It turned out to be a good thing, cause while I was sitting there, something caught my eye in the mirror. This hawk was sitting on top of the bushes right next to the road. he was after something in the bushes. He kept diving into them and would run around the side (they can run pretty fast) and pop up back on top. Just as I thought to switch to video and capture the action, they came out with my food. I was already running late, so I had to settle for the few pics I was able to get. I'm glad I had the camera in the truck!

The funny part is, I think out of all the people in the drive-thru, only one guy seemed to notice besides me. Even the folks eating inside were looking at me funny when I was taking pictures.

Cool.

Another juvenile red tail.

A lot of the young birds die because they don't learn how to hunt, or have to settle for poor territory, or both.

Looks like your bird got booted out of the good feeding grounds.

Are you sure it's a Red-Tailed? I was thinking it was a Cooper's. They look a lot alike.

Hmmm, now that I look at it, you're right. Cooper's or sharpshinned. Couldn't really tell until you mentioned it, but the tail gives it away.
