View Full Version : Another hunting show Black Eye....
Jeramie

I was watching a hunting show this past weekend. These guys was ML'er hunting whitetails out of a blind.
They watched a bunch of does come through, one old doe winded them at about 15 yards and they busted. They ran to a hillside and all stopped. Finally a massive buck came over the edge and faced them. He was straight on. The guy with the gun said, "Its about 185 yards." Baaaaammmmmm!
At first I didnt know it was a ML'er until I saw smoke. Then I realized he took a 185 yard shot on a deer facing him dead on with a smoke pole!
Low and behold they go to where the buck was standing and find no blood even though the buck heat kicked. Then the moron looks into the camera and said, "We arent finding much blood. Looks like we are going to have to go to camp and look for him in the morning when there is more light." Ya think?!
Anyway, long story short. They found the buck the next morning but it kind of ruined the story for me.
Anyone else see this? It was on the new outdoor channel on Direct TV (channel 608).

I saw an episode of Keith Warren Outdoors this past weekend, they were hunting in Ohio with a couple of pro football players. It looked pretty green, and they were carrying rifles (illegal in Ohio), without a lick of orange on (against the normal hunting laws in Ohio).
You guessed it, high fence operation. Bucks scoring at 200" start at $15,000 to $18,000.........But, you can "Call for rates of Super Bucks scoring over 210!"

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Keith Warren...but I'm also not a fan of high fenced hunts. I like the shows that are '100% fair chase' personally.
I have seen too many deer walk in like livestock and start feeding out of the feeder while the 'hunter' (and I use that term loosely) gets their gear into position. Normally the animal doesn't even worry about the wind or sound, as they are so used to seeing and interacting with humans.
Oh well...what can ya do, ya know?

I would rather see them shoot a basket racked 6'er, than a superbuck anyday. I love the hunts that show them doing deer drives and scoring on both does, and smaller bucks. I wish sometimes the RT pros would do one like that.
I checked the website ohiobucks posted. There were several "successful" hunters pictured with their megabuck. Many had very unhappy looks. Must of just realized how much they owed.
Any hunting show should abide by a code of ethical shooting. Too bad some do not. :(

ALL hunting shows have taken a doward spiral in the last 3-5 years. To much advertising, same ole tip-o-the-week-crap, they spend way to much time yappin and runnin their lip rather than hunting. Most every show is nothing more than a 30 minute infomercial for outfitters. There are a few exceptions, very few, I am embarassed by a lot of these shows and just shake my head in disbelief at every episode I watch.

i did see the show originally talked about. i had similar thoughts about it being a poor shot made in bad taste. i was also disgusted that they waited until the next day to find the buck. i'll wait with an arrowed buck, but not with a bullet.

Toad is putting it lightly! I have said the same thing since I saw Mr. Warren defend Jimmy Houston and high fence hunting on his show.

Ive looked through the line up and honestly there are a few different shows I had watched. I dont want to call one out and it be the wrong one.
Regardless, the point is that a lot of shows have gotten into the business of flinging lead for TV. Its pretty sickening.

I also saw that show, however, I can not remember the name. I was very surprised to see him take that shot.
Good luck to all

Our farm is right by Briarwood in Schuyler Co, IL. It's a high fence operation owned by Jack Brittingham I believe. My buddy and I have jokingly contemplated taking wire cutters and cutting a hole in the fence so people aren't hunting at a zoo anymore. I watched a show about them that showed a huge buck that they BOUGHT from a breeder and turned loose to breed does. That's not hunting.
Take care,
Ryan

It never made any sense to me how they can hunt a high fence, and get excited when they shoot an animal :confused::confused:

Amazing what they will put on video to sell something. Whether it be hunting products or canned hunts. I saw the episode with the Ohiobucks speaks of. Very disturbing to say the least.
