This year and almost every year will be hunting here in my home state IN. and spending a week in central MO. for 9 days early Nov.

Hey team, i had planned on hunting this weekend but now i am undecided whether to go this or next weekend, only because i bought my WI license today and forgot about that stupid 3 day wait:mad: which would only give me Monday to hunt. I guess I will have to decide by tomorrow , anyways good luck to everyone else.

Hey Rackblaster........ what is the 3 day wait all about.... ?
c_lou
09-22-2008, 07:50 AM
For some reason the law says if you buy a Bowhunting license during the season, you have to wait 3 days before you can hunt. I am sure there is some reason for the law, but with most state DNR's, I couldn't come close to telling you why.
On the hunting front, it's been pretty warm here, upper 70's for highs. Just a little to warm to go sit in the tree.
RackBlaster
09-23-2008, 05:39 PM
Well I never did make it up north the weekend , and boy was it hard to make that decision. I figured at least this coming weekend I will have 2 full days to hunt and hopefully it will cool down some. Hopefully something else does not come up by then. Any decisions on a name yet?
13littleones
09-23-2008, 09:57 PM
Hey Rack..... If they make you wait 3 days...... why not 4, or 5.....whats the diff.?? Amazing the waste of time it took to set up such a stupid bill and make it law...
RackBlaster
09-24-2008, 07:40 AM
I agree, although you can purchase a gun deer license during the season and use it the same day. Go figure:confused:

Hey team, looks like i will finally get out in the woods this weekend. I will be heading up north to WI after work tomorrow and will be up in the tree Sun. and Mon. Hopefully those bigguns are still around. I am anxious to also check my trail cam. Its supposed to get down into the 40's at night so it should be good in the mornings. I am not sure if i will take a doe if given the opportunity because of the warm weather, but them tenderloins sound mighty good right now.:D Good luck to everyone else.

Well I got up in the tree last night and had a pretty good night. I found it gets darker in the woods faster with the leaves on the trees. I need to sit my field stands. Now being that we are in a Earn a Buck zone, I need to tag a doe before I get my buck sticker. So can you all guess what the 2 deer were when they came walking by? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out, Yup both were bucks. Niether was a buck that I would have thought about shooting. The first was a nice big bodied 6 pointer, missing his brows. The second came through not more than 3 minutes behind him. A smaller basket 8. He grunted at the first buck, sounded like a 6 year old trying to pick a fight, he had a high pitched grunt. I couldn't see them but I could hear them, and it sounded like they were having a little disagreement about this piece of land.
It's just good to see deer. Saturday is the next night out.

Hey team, had no luck the weekend. Sunday morn. hunted the swamp and heard deer moving thru just before light and seen nothing the rest of the day. Monday morn. hunted the swamp again and once again heard them moving thru just before light. Decided to hunt the edge of a 2 year old clear cut across from the swamp and "I'll be a son of a @*!!" , some scumbag stole my stand:mad:. So i walk down to another that i had about 300 yds. down on the same edge and what else, gone:mad::mad::mad:. Both trees left nothing but the steps that they tried to take but could not get them out. Now i am so pist off i don't even want to hunt but i figured getting up in the stand would calm me down so i scrambled to my food plot stand. (hoping it's still there) Finally got up in the stand and was up there not even 5 min. and a doe and fawn came out. About a half our later 2 more does came out, then another. Then about 10 min. later another doe comes busting out of the corn and chases all of them out of the clover right underneath me and starts fighting on its hind legs with another , and then they all take off in the woods. It turned out to be an OK night after all seeing all that. Now i will have to invest in a couple more stands and locks for all my stands and maybe some cameras for trespasser's. This weekend i will be huntin here in IL , hopefully the winds stay out of the east like they say, I always see a ton of deer with those winds. Good luck everyone.

My Tuesday didn't go as planned. Well actually it did, I just didn't do what I was suppose to do. I had a doe come in around 5pm. She hung around for an hour just munching and taking her sweet time coming into range. She was pretty distracted by the neighbors cutting their corn, so that let me get away with quit a bit of movement to get ready for a shot. After an hour or so she finally gave me a 30 yard shot, slightly quartering to me. I took the shot through a small opening and connected with her front shoulder. She took to big bounds and stopped just behind a tree. She must have stood there for 15 minutes or so and then I watched her walk off into the CRP field. Now the big debate started, do I get down and check my arror or stay in the tree and wait for dark. I made the decision to get down and go check my arrorw. I was just about ready to get down, I had my bow tied to my drop rope ready to lower it down, when I heard deer coming. I got my bow off the rope and an arrow knocked just in time. I nice 8 pointer came trotting past me at 10 yards. The nice thing is he never even knew I was there.
After dark I got my FIL & BIL to help me do a little tracking. We found my arror and blood right away. There was a pretty good blood trail so we backed out. I started thinking to myself, where she stopped and stood there was impressive blood. The thing is it would have been impressive if she had only stood there for a few seconds. She stood there about 15-20 minutes so I was thinking that it wasn't that impressive after all. I went back out Wednesday for 4 hours and searched the CRP field, but with grass as tall as me and thicker than I have ever seen it, I had no luck.
After going over the shot, looking at my arrow, and broadhead blade that was bent pretty good, I am pretty confident she has just a good dent in her shoulder and a cut that will heal over. Don't get me wrong, I am sick to death that I blew the shot, 30 yards has been money in the bank all summer.

Hey team, congrats to everyone that has scored, i see we are in second place , on the road to #1:). I have been hunting the past 2 weekends here in IL and the week before last up in Wisconsin. The week i spent in WI didn't produce anything but does and small bucks . The does i passed due to my schedule and warm weather. Last weekend here in IL I seen a total of 8 bucks, 6 I had shots at 2 were close enough but never gave me a good shot. One of the two was a monster 11 point, there were 2 others i probably should have taken but they will surely be trophies next year or good eating toward the end of this season:D This past weekend was a washout due to the high winds. This coming weekend looks very promising, the bucks are really starting to move around here and i have always seen shooters at this time, hopefully the wind is in my favor. Good luck to everyone else.

Hey team,
I have added 5 points to our score. The pictures are in the entry thread and the story goes like this.
I went out Wednesday Oct. 28th and got settled in around 3:45. There I sat until 6:00 when I heard a deer coming down the ridge to the south of my stand. I picked her up about half way down and was pretty certain she would come past my stand based on how she was moving. She got down to the ditch and into some thick brush, that's when I lost sight of her, but I could still hear her down there. That's when I noticed a second deer coming in behind her. I picked up the second deer coming down the side hill to my south as well. About this time I picked up the first doe again and she was on a path to walk behind my stand. I couldn't get into position for the shot because low and behold the second deer made it to me and was standing directly in front of me at 15 yards. Seeing that the second deer was a doe, I turned my attention to her. She made her way past my stand on a trail that is 10 yards to the south of me. She stopped perfectly in a shooting lane, and that's when I let the WASP Jackhammer tipped Goldtip eat. She ran 50 yards back up the hill to my south, stopped and did a death tumble back down the hill. About 10 minutes later she let out her death bawl and I knew she was down for good. All of this happened within 5 minutes. After my FIL and I found her, I noticed the shot placement wasn't the best. It was high and a little far back. I am pretty confident that I did some damage to the main artery that runs along the back of a deer.
I am thankful to the man upstairs for providing me the oppurtunity to take one of his most magnificent animals. I would also like to thank my wife who is the most understaning person I know. She may give me some grief about hunting but she never stands in my way when I want to get out there.
NOW ON TO THE BIG BOYS!!!!:D

Hey team, congrats Ambuscher on your triple and everyone else who has scored. I hunted here in IL last weekend and had a shot at a nice 8 pt., but right now he is not what i want, also had shots at 2 does but due to the warm weather neglected to shoot. This weekend i seen a monster 10 pt. this morn. but was out of range and on a hot doe, seen a couple small bucks chasin does in late morn. , other than that the day was shot from strong west winds which work totally against me. I will be headed out in the morning and will hunt all day, the bucks are really chasing hard and it should be a good morning cold and light winds:)
Hopefully i can connect on a big boy to get some points, but i am confident I will at least get a doe before the season is over.

I tried taking some field photos, but I didn't know I screwed them up until I got home.
When I got home, I got Ken to take a few more. Please excuse the long-johns...EH ...LOL:D

Great looking buck Buckee :D congrats! I hunted on Monday and seen 2 small bucks in the morning and nothing else the rest of the day. Those west winds are killing me. Had south winds this whole week while I'm working and what is the weekend calling for , what else west winds. Hopefully this weekend pays off , never see much action after gun season which is the following weekend here in IL. Good luck to everyone else.

Back from my vacation in Missouri and I had a great time. I shot a 7 ptr. the last day I was there and gave the meat to my brother. The big 10prt. I have been hunting the past few years was found dead, I shot it last year and couldn't find him...I didn't realize it was him, super fast hunt and never took a real good look at his rack... makes me sick! I will post a story on the bowhunting forum sometime..
Nice deer there Buckee,, congrats !

Oh well team, we dropped down to fourth place :( not by much though. I still have about 1 month and half of hunting, so hopefully i can upgrade with a decent buck. I will be hunting here in IL Monday morn. The weekend warrior thing really sux, seems the best days to hunt are when i am always at work. They are calling for high winds on Monday:mad:
Good luck to everyone!

Well guys, my rifle season came to an end the day before Thanksgiving by my choice. I sat out Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning and saw zero deer. Add that to the number I've seen early bowhunting and that number remains zero! Kind of hard to shoot a deer when you don't see any. Seems to be the trend for a lot of hunters in my area. Not sure if it was winter kill from last year, wolves, or coyotes. Whatever it is, the deer are not around.
I'm not sure if I'll get out next weekend for a couple days with the muzzle loader or not. Then the weekend after is an antlerless rifle hunt by me. Then late season bowhunting. I'm not too motivated for any of the remaining seasons given what my season has been so far. Sorry.
Congrats to all of you who have scored for the team!! Just sorry I haven't had a chance to contribute.:(

You took the words right out of my mouth. I saw a few deer but nothing I decided was right for me to shoot. I have been hearing lots of complaints from hunters. I sure hope the WDNR does some serious re-thinking this winter.

Ya, hopefully i can live up to my name before the season is over:o
I agree with you guys up in Wisconsin about not seeing deer this year, its been the same here in IL ,but in my case i know they are there.I hunt in Adams county WI, and I have 16 different bucks on my trail cameras, and at least 10 different does in the past couple months. Where they are in the day time i don't know. There was only 1 small 4 pt. and 3 does taken in my area that i know of gun season ,including my doe. I wasn't up there alot but the time i was i seen very little movement. I don't have problems w/yotes or wolves that i have seen, although the yotes are around. The past 2 years here in IL and up in WI have been really strange with hardly any rutting activity compared with past years. Who really knows , it won't keep me out of the stand though. I will be heading out in the morn. for the last day shotgun season here in IL, there has been a big 15 pt. hanging around the past week w/ a couple of does in the food plot, hopefully i can connect, then Monday i will be out with the bow. Good luck to everyone else.

I don't know how I managed to do it, but my record for filling my tags is untarnished...LOL
My tags are filled, and although I still feel really disappointed about losing a big buck, I got to ride the horse again. Sorry I couldn't get a few more points for the team.

Hey team, still hunting here in IL. I have been seeing a ton of deer but just out of reach every time. I moved my stand in a spot that i have been seeing a lot of deer traveling thru so tomorrow morning i will give it a try. I seen a monster 8 point followed by 2 smaller bucks and 5 does on Monday morning and 3 does and a 4 pt. Sun. morn. all traveling this same route. Only have 2 more weeks left so i am trying to get in as much hunting as i can. Congrats Buckee on your season !

Oh well, seen 6 does just out of range and was winded by a spike and later on 2 more does coming down right towards me. There was NW winds this morn. which i didn't expect. I moved my stand once again on the other side of this travel route they are taking . They are calling for NW winds again for Sunday and Monday so it should be perfect.
