Hunting on new land

was wondering if anybody had any pointers. just bought 10acres in s.w. arkansas got premission to hunt neighbors 200 acres. have seen a few nice deer done a little scouting already found a few scrapes and rubs. but really can't put a time pattern on 'em. what should i do?

Find a high vantage point and scope the activity of the deer. Do this for a few days and see what happens.

take the first year to just look and observe the patterns. of course, if opportunity knocks... just don't expect a bunch for the first year.

Since your neighbor gave you permission you might want to ask him if he minded you throwing up a few trail cams... Set a few of those out on some of them trails and you can time there movements... Also goto google earth or whatever and get a topo of the entire area and look for lil honey holes you might otherwise miss just walking thru the 200 acres. Also find out where his stands are and mark them on the topo so your not going to be interfering with him. A nice GPS comes in handy too if you don't have one already. Just my 2 cents. :) I currently have just been hunting on a tax forfeit (state land now) 80 acres that only a few know about and shot a nice 130's 8 last year and a small 10 the year b4. We are looking to purchase 40-80 of our own soon and every piece of realestate the wife is picking out I instantly goto google earth (with my topo mod) and take a detailed look at them... Google Earth is outdated topo's usually but on a big chunk of land it can't change too drastically.

Maybe invest in a trail camera to do some scouting for ya~

Trail cameras are great as long as no one steals them which is a possibility where I hunt.

I like to use mapquest or Google and study the maps. Find a few pinch points or field corners. Then scout for some deer sign and trials then find a tree that will get you elevated enough to see well. Use binoculars and start looking for deer movement. If you picked wrong move to where the deer are.
