Another Okie here--can't wait!! Saw some big tracks today out on my land but have a few stray dogs hanging around and that is not good for birds.

I like Spur Stringers!

Spur Stringers it is, then. I sent Strut a PM on that.

Has anybody seen western NY bowhunter in the forums lately? I think that's the only team member who hasn't checked in yet.

I'd love to see pics from everybody of last year's hunts, birds, etc. A little motivation, you know.

I'll get things started: Here are some photos of me with my second bird from last year, one I nicknamed "Hummer (http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72387)" because he was a big old bird, my biggest to date. Hoping to find his big brother this spring!

http://billday.com/Images/Shared/20080422_2376.hummer.jpg

He was a bonafide limbhanger:

The secret to his limbhanging prowess was 1 3/8 inch spurs:

And yes, I did string those spurs and wear them with pride! :D

No bird for me last year or ever for that matter:o...I still am searching for my first gobbler:D

What season(s) are you hunting this spring, Jorden? I bet you'll bring in bird Numero Uno this spring!

Has anyone heard from or seen western NY bowhunter on the RT forums recently? Still hoping he'll checkin soon; I'm going to ping him and Strut10 to see what's up.

I'm itching to go...our season opens three weeks from yesterday!

I start May 13th and get to hunt until the 24th...never had any luck in the late season but hopefully this year will be different:D

Jus found out I was signed onto your team, so I'm no longer a free agent. Season outlook isn't so hot though, have no where good to hunt this year. New houses and more hunters on the property I usually hunt have about ruined it.

Lookin forward to chattin with you all about your seasons though, and I just might get lucky.

Welcome to the team, lil hunter!

Is there any public land near you? Might be an option if so. Turkey hunting is just too much fun not to find somewhere to go and get after them! :)

I'll be hunting in six days down in southeastern Oklahoma. I'm finding the usual issues with thinking about turkeys and wishing the clock would move faster are kicking in something fierce the last couple of days. Can't wait, but have to!

Theres a little bit of public land we can hunt here. It's by reservation only for the first 9 days of season though, then theres every turkey hunter in SW indiana on it.lol. There is some more public property I could hunt, but it's over an hour n a half away from home and I have never been on it before. I may have to check it out before season though.

I hunted 4 1/2 days this week...I have a new nemesis, dubbed "Tank Romero", that I got in close to several times but always had something mess things up. Back after him later this week!

Of all saturdays, I had to work this morning so I didn't get to hunt. I went this afternoon and set up in a pasture. Spent 1st hour trying to get the horses to leave my decoys alone. Had a hen come in later and we carried on quite a conversation but no gobbler today.

I drove by the private land I usually hunt yesturday. The field that me and my dad have killed our only 3 birds in, is planted in wheat this year. Usually it's just an overgrown mustard field, until it gets plowed. The wheat is gonna make it a little different, hopefully I'll still get a bird out of it though. We saw a group of 5 birds(at least one jake but mostly hens) a group of 3 birds, which I believe were all gobblers, a single hen, and a single tom. The last single tom was a big ol boy, and at least one of the others was pretty nice as well. So I guess I'll end up hunting that property again this year, just hopefully theres not any other guys running all over it at the same time as me.

I didn't manage to kill the Tank, but I did get his little brother: I'll have a jake to start our points on the contest entry picture post thread as soon as I get a chance.

I've entered my jake in the contest entry thread (click here to see the entry (https://secure.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1052636#post1052636)).

I posted the story of the hunt, "Farm Field Jake (https://secure.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1052635)", to the turkey forum. Click here to read it and see photos (https://secure.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1052635) including one of the sneaky snake that just about got me...unfortunately for him, shotgun pellets are faster than copperheads!

Here's the first one, me with him where he fell:

Thanks, Jorden.

How's everyone else doing? Hope you're all getting time out in the woods and fields to go after 'em.

I'm making plans for this coming weekend, the final weekend of our OK turkey season (season ends May 6th). Looks like I'll be headed to western OK with family for camping, fishing, and Rio Grande hunting. I'll let you know how that turns out.

My season doesnt start for 10 days yet, and bird sightings around home are minimal, so it is not looking too good right now:(

Season starts here on Wednesday:D...how is everyone else doing:confused:

elnor

Good luck, Jorden! Lay a big one low!

As for me, my season ended last Wednesday. I hunted the last four days in western OK for Rios. I had a couple of close encounters including a big old double bearded tom strutting down a road right towards me, then veering off to the left at eighty yards to join some hens. No shots were fired, unfortunately.

I'd sum up this year as wet, wet, *WET* and cold. At least here in Oklahoma, we've had just about nonstop rain and it's been about twenty degrees below normal temperature-wise. I've hunted on 18 different days and it rained/misted/fogged/thunderstormed on all but 1 of them! I don't know if it's been weather or what but the gobbling activity has been way off and it seems like most birds have been very call shy this spring.

I consider myself lucky to have gotten the jake I posted a while back (http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85396). Hope the weather is better for everyone still after them!
