Fall turkey doesn't start down in my zone till the 24th I think....right when the deer really start up!

I hit one on saturday with a 3 blade expandable. I couldn't believe what I saw. I sent the arrow clean through him at 20 yards and he just stood there. I managed to break one leg but he just stood there. I said to myself "He's gonna die here in a minute". But after 5 minutes went by, he started to hobble off. When I reached for another arrow my location was revealed and they started to move away. I really couldn't get another shot after that. I took a chance and thought maybe I could run him down, I've done it before. But he just flew off. I walked back and retrieved my arrow that was stuck in the mud, the Lumenock still shining brightly. It was covered with blood and feathers. I couldn't believe that bird just stood there after being shot. I believe he was gut shot. In hindsight I should have nocked another arrow right away but I was certain he would tip over at any moment. Lesson learned.

That's my pet peave here in WNY. Why don't they start the fall season on October 1st like the rest of the state???
I'm in the bowhunting mode for deer by that time of the month!!
