I have been hunting for 7 yrs now (own my own) and i have never found a shed. I think the rats and squirrels chew them up quickly where i hunt.

Yes the rats and things get to them by deer season normally. Last year i found a huge 7 point which was 7 points on the left beam. Nothing had touched it. But any way, Normally you will find them in the spring alot better~

I've found several while walking to and from my stand sites. Usually I stop and ask myself, "why didn't I find this thing back in March???"
I have picked up six so far while bowhunting this year. All of them were lying in open areas where I went shed-hunting last spring. One antler I could see from 300 yards away. Another one was lying maybe 10-20 yards from where I picked up the first set last year - I had the check the "as found" photo to see if you could actually see it in the background. Either I had the blinders on or the coyotes have been moving them around (although none of them had much in the way of chew marks).

A guy from my hunting club found a moose shed one year in the Adirondacks where we lease 3000 acres! Pretty cool!!

I've found a few while deer hunting but most of them have been chewed on pretty bad.

Rats and Squirrels chew on shed antlers. Why, they can't taste very good.

LDB - maybe they dropped in there after you looked the last time? *shrugs*
Kansan - that's probably the case for a couple of them, but some of the really open ones had been sitting there for a couple of years and were really bleached.
I'm up to 11 sheds found while hunting this year (188 total for the year), but now there is a heavy blanket of snow across the land so I might not break 200 this year. I find it tough to switch out of shed-hunting mode while hunting. It pays off sometimes when I spot a bedded buck's antlers, but other times I spook deer because I'm not looking far enough ahead (I mainly still-hunt and spot-and-stalk).

I hear ya LDB!!! I have been doing the exact same thign, sort of still hunting a draw and see a nice pathc of ceder and decide to take a walk over and check it out lOL!!!once its in the blood its there for good!!!!
The attraction of cedar is too strong to overcome for a shedhunter, Sureshot. Saskbucks even catches himself looking in people's juniper bushes while walking through his neighbourhood.
You know when you are an absolutely addicted shedhunter when you kill a buck and you find yourself thinking, "Man, I wish I could have picked up his sheds this winter".
