Gator and I decided on a quick afternoon hog hunt. We met at the land at 3---got the guns loaded and headed for the hunt. First thing I wanted to do was check the trap before we headed to the stand. I notice that the door is tripped so we casually start walking to the trap and find 3 big hogs in the trap. All of sudden Gator gets in his Army shooting stance as we see 2 hogs around 40 yards from the trap. Before I know it Gators in a killing mode and bullets are flying and hogs are running everywhere. One of the hogs runs to my right so I start running to get a shot--and ole Gators emptying his clip. I don't know whether to shoot or duck for cover. As I get to the road a big sow runs across the road giving me a quick shot--but I miss. All total we got 3 hogs in the trap and quick shooting Gator has 2 on the ground. He shot the first hog between the eyes--and of course that hog dropped in her tracks. He shot the other hog running--his first shot took off his lower jaw and his second shot found the mark right behind his shoulder. We follow a blood trail for about 75 yards in some thick brush and find him. So now the fun part--we take a few pics and head back to the truck to get the knives and start cleaning. This is where it gets funny---my big time army friend, Gator, pulls out his 8 year old cub scout 1 inch pocket knife to clean these huge hogs. I kindly remind him we are cleaning hogs--not bunny rabbits. After about 2 hours of cleaning we get enough meat to feed a small army.
Gator---great shooting and congrats on your first hog!
Here are some pics of our success!
