    Default sabot questions

using hornady white sabots, the .54 cal w/ 240 grain 44 cal bullet... some go down the barrel just fine, some feel really tight, i am swabbing between shots, even dry brushing first and then swabbing really well, the barrel looks very, very clean. are all the sabots supposed to be exactly the same, or will there be a difference due to the fact that they are just plastic? also, one that was a bit hard to laod, tumbled on me, the sabot stayed with the bullet and went through the target sideways. i am trying to get the muzzleloader sighted in, am i better off using the buffalo bullets for the initial sight in? i see people mention they shoot and swab between shots and have no problem, i'm just starting to get a bit frustrated with sabots... is there something i am missing?

well, i am using the pyrodex powder pellets, in .54 the only ones i can find are 60 grain pellets, so i'm using 120 grains. using windex to swab with, 1 wet, 3 dry. a friend of mine suggested using a lightly oiled cloth after patching, he said he uses wd40, and that with the pellets, he never has a hard load, but it it really a good idea or even necessary to oil the barrel??

Not when you are shooting it. Its ok for storage, but not while loading. Its going to give you a wet charge and not go off. The sabot is going to act like a squeegee and push the oil to the powder. I shoot all of my ML barrels dry.
