    Default Hornady SST

I'm using Hornady SSTs in my Winchester X-150. I've been shooting the last several weekends trying to get my rifle to group with powerbelts - no luck. Today I tried Knight sabots, TC Shockwaves and Hornady SSTs. I got two 2" groups at 100 yd with the SST in 10-15 mph swirling winds. That's good to me after seeing 8" groups with powerbelts. All were over two 50 gr pellets of 777.

Seems to me that your X-150 likes the SST's a lot better than Powerbelts. I just pick up a box of SST's hope my Encore likes them as well. I'll probrably start at 100grs. of ffg 777, then play around from there.

I know a bunch of people will shutter at the thought of this but I bought a pound of American Pioneer Powder. Have to give it a try, my brother used it last year with excellent results. Both on paper and out in the woods he filled three of his tags using 120grs. of APP and the 250gr. SST's.

Hope I can find a winning combination with the SST's. They performed flawlessly on deer out of my brothers Omega.

I am using the 240 gr SSTs. I tried to get some of the APP sticks, but the closest three places are about 50 miles from home. I tried two on Saturday, but neither carried it any more.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with the CLEANSHOT results. Yesterday I sighted my gun in at 50yds, had 2 shots 1.5" high, but touching. Last year had the same results, but I was at 75 yds, (different range location this year). I am shooting the T/C Express Mag sabots, 240gr over 2 50gr pellets of CLEANSHOT. Unfortunately, I have yet to shoot a deer with this combination, but hope to this weekend, and maybe a hog or 2.

I tried the SST's. Those and the XTP mags shot about the exact same out of my gun, but the xtp mags seemed to load a little easier, so I'm gonna stick with them.

I shot a doe 2 seasons ago with the same load. The Cleanshot pellets and the 240 gr. XTP's shot great out of my Encore. The only gripe I had with Cleanshot pellets they didn't ignite well when I tried them in my Renegade. Cleanshot ffg turned out to be a winner in both guns. I have never experienced this moisture problem that everyone talks about.

I bought the American Pioneer Powder to try, if I can get it to shoot reasonably well in my Encore I'm going to stick with it. I'm not a big fan of swabbing the bore between shots with 777. The infamous crud ring is a pain in the butt especially in a hunting situation.
