    Default HELP!

Ok I have a piece of crap no good CVA Staghorn that I bought 4 years ago. I cleaned this rifle from top to bottom last year after season ended, and stored it for the year. I took the bolt, spring and lever out so it wouldn't jam, but I left the breech in figuring since I cleaned it that it'd be ok.........WRONG! This sucker is jammed in there so tight WD-40 and PB Blaster won't budge it. I have used cheaters on the breech wrench and even hit it with a hammer to try and bust it out. What can I do.......its in solid as anything I have ever seen. I am also afraid I may warp the threads and ruin the gun. If thats the case, I am canning the gun and abandoning BP guns for some time. Too much money wasted!

YB, I would clamp that sucker in a vise and get an impact wrench on it.
At this point I would figure what do I have to lose? It sounds as though you just have a rust problem.

Suggestion: never replace the breach plug the same evening that you give it a thorough cleaning. Some dampness may have been trapped in the threads.
I always wait a day or two and then grease the threads up good first. Good luck. .....popgun

I would not worry about warping the threads, I would worry about rounding the nut off though. I would soak in in penetrating fluid for a day. Take the scope off and get the gun to its bare minimum. Lock it in a padded vise. Use a cheater bar on the wrench and hit the cheater bar with a hammer, ball bat or something. Give it a good wack (aim for the fence kind of wack). Often the sudden impact will break it loose where constant brute force did not. It works for removing rifle barrels, so it should work for the breech plug removal. If that does not work, take it to your gunsmith and they can remove it.

HIT IT!!!!!!!!!! My breech plug was stuck in my Knight this year as a result of my neglect from last year. I ended up putting in the breech plug wrench (is that what its called) which has a hole in the end. I put an allen wrench in that hole and hit the allen wrench with a hammer. Well, the allen wrench broke so I went and got a sturdy screwdriver, put it in the hole in the breech plug wrench and hit that sucker again and again. Finally it broke free. I guarantee you it was clean, dry and greased well before it went back in. Good luck, Greg

I just take motor oil pour it in the barrel and let it set for about 2 days and clog the nipple so oil dosent pour out and just continue to work it and keep oil in the barrel so it settles down around the plug and it might come off but thats what I did ones and it work for me but if you took a impact wrech to it im not sure if it will come off if you still cant get it off just sell it.
