Default Precision Rifle QT40 195 gr?

I started ysing them this year, I got increable results on paper, but never shot a deer with them. well on Friday morning, I got my first chance, a doe standing 50 yards from me. I put the crosshair on her a bang! she stod there, then ran off 15 sec. latter. I looked for blood but found nothing. how well do these bullets work on game? would there be massave bleeding? how well does it mushroom? could it have blown throu her and not done much dammage? need to know!

They mushroom very well since its a soft lead bullet. The polymer tip pushes back into the soft lead bullet enhancing the expansion of the bullet.

Just like with a rifle, it takes a few yards for the bleeding to start. If you put a hole through the vitals, its dead. Even if the bullet did not expand and acted like a full metal jacket, it will do the job (when it goes through the vitals). The spoor will be minimal, but the critter will be dead.

I have shot a couple dozen deer with the QT bullets and the blood starts exiting them within a second or so. A deer can cover some ground in that amount of time. They work extremely well on deer sized game. Based on what you indicated, I would say you missed.

Not sure about the QT's but I shot a 5 point with my muzzleloader this evening (10 yds at most, right underneath my stand) with 220 grain PR dead centers and 100 grains 777 powder. Wow, was I impressed. There was not an exit wound, however, the entrance wound was probably 2 inches wide by 4 or 5 inches long. I didn't hit spine or anything and this deer flat dropped to the ground, gave one grunt/bleat/noise and he was finished. I"ve had trouble with muzzleloading bullets in the past because of poor expansion but obviously not this time. I was literally thinking of giving up muzzleloading until AJ recommended the PR bullets. These bullets are awesome. I noticed that it went in through his backstrap and there was a broken rib on the opposite side where it stopped. I didn't recover the bullet but I sure looked. I bet it would have been incredible to see. Don't give up or change bullets. I made a very poor shot on one saturday morning and never found him. But, I've never seen the kind of damage from a muzzleloading bullet that I saw today. These things are incredible. Keep after it, it'll pay off. I can't wait until next weekend to try for a doe. Hang in there bro.

I've shot my last four caribou with Dead Centers, three deer just last week. They do fabulously on game, IMO. Farthest travel was a doe that went 15 yards.

much better now! I headed out sat. for doe only ml seasion. had one come in and at 50 yards I shot her, she "flew" back 1 or 2 feet and was dead before she hit the ground! I'm very impressed with PR. guess I just missed the first time around.
my shot was so devestating that my bro & law bought the dead centers that afternoon to try out.

congrats mdgc01! This is my 3rd year to muzzleload hunt. I've lost 3 deer that I know I hit. I'm almost sure 2 of them were quite good shots but the deer ran forever. I found blood from 2 of them (15yd and 40yd shots) and hair from another (my ignorance, bad, rushed shot). We looked for hours and didn't find any of them. I was ready to give up on the ml until I shot that buck last Monday with the PR dead centers. Now I'm seriously considering carrying my muzzleloader during gun season since I will likely not get a shot over 50-75 yards. If things go well I'll probably also carry it during our "special antlerless hunt" around the 1st of the year. Its amazing that such a small thing can make such a huge difference. I'll have my new Simmons Aetec 2.8-10x44 mounted on it by then and it'll be a true harvesting machine. All I gotta do now is order some more of the dead centers. I'm glad you had such good luck with them too. Greg
