sabot loading

im using the 240gr. t/c xtp mag sabots that came with my omega because i get really tight groupes with them, however they are almost impossible to load, (very tight in the barrel), barrel is very clean also, should i try a different plastic sabot or a different bullet all together??.... thanks for the feed back.

I use the same sabots in my black diamond and dont have any troubles loading them. Would think the barrels on the omega and the black diamond would be fairly comparable.

I run spit patches between my shots and seems to ease loading more so than if I do not.

tight is good but i think the idea behind the powerbelt is the best i have seen. it works on a bullet that actually upon ignition expands and runs thru the twist of the gun for quicker stabilization and makes for better flight.
the others are good but i have had problems with build up with the older sabots and creating some fliers even if you clean between shots. this is what has happened to me and i know to others and i know others live by them. it is what your confident in. with the powerbelts i have never had a p[roblem loading them and could shoot many bullets without cleaning but getting older and doing some serious testing on my own i find a clean bore makes for a much better shot for me. or i should say i usually feel confident inthe shot. i know there is a person at the trigger end of the gun lol
sorry for rambling but i feel there are better bullets out there than a saboted bullet for black powder guns so it's a choice which to shoot.

I know what you mean. The ones that came with my Omega were extrememly hard to load as well. I'm using 250 gr. Shockwaves which load snug, but not too tight. The Barnes 245 gr spitzer type bullets load and shoot well also. I've not tried Powerbelts in this rifle since I broke it in with some Great Plains Bullets.

I shoot the 240 grain XTP Mag with the black sabots in my CVA optima pro, and the only time i have trouble seating them is after 3-4 shots without cleaning. I have yet to shoot a deer with with bullet, does anyone know what its on game performance is like?

A different sabot.

The problem is that muzzleloading bores vary from gun to gun, manufacturer to manufacturer.

A ".50 caliber" ML could be .497" land to land, or as loose as .505". That is a problem for bullet makers, they have to make a "one size fits all guess."
