Every gun is different. I found that my gun shoots best with 80 gr. of powder. You will need to determine what is the best load for your gun. Does the manufacturer recommend a load?

I would suggest starting with two 50 gr. pyrodex pellets and a 295 gr. Powerbelt bullet. BE SURE not to set your targets out to far. Get the gun zeroed in then put it out a little farther.

Be sure to swab out your barrel with some cleaner every one or two shots.

    Hope this helps

    1. Conical bullets definately. Yout twist is too slow for sabots. I suggest you try Powerbelts and see how they perform. It should be a good combination. If they did not perform to your liking, a different typc of conical would be the next choice.

    2. I would sight in at 50 yards. How far do you expect to shoot? How far can you shoot accurately with open sights?

Oops! I just noticed you were shooting a hawken style gun. That is what I have. My is a T/C Renegade. I take back what I said about Pyrodex Pellets. They were made mainly for in-line rifles. Use a loose powder like Pyrodex, Triple 7 or one of the others. You will get better ignition.
