That is not a bad group but the gun will group tighter. What game are you planning to hunt with it ? You might want to try only 100gr of powder and a 295gr sabot, that will kill anything out there and group well.
See my thread here http://www.realtree.com/forums/showflat....true#Post989070
Are you shooting open sights or scope?
Scopes
3-9-40 simmons
with a scope I would hope that the Encore would tighten up on that ... I also would go 100 gr and I bet it significantly tightens that group
Steve
I think Ill try the 100grain tomorrow. You also have to understand that the Encore will out shoot my ablities.
150 grs of what, loose powder or pellets? With a 300 gr bullet it has got to be kicking the snot out of you, hard to shoot a gun accurately that way and way over loaded unless hunting say, rhino.
Think about what game you are hunting, what distance you are going to shoot mostly, not what you might shoot but what shots will present themselves day to day. Most people aren’t expert marksmen, still less can shoot a gun with heavy recoil accurately. I can’t, but I can shoot a MZ capable of killing a whitetail deer within 100 yards very well.
MZ I guess you do have a valid point about what Im shooting. I was using (3) 50 grain 777 pelets. I will be hunting whitetail, most likey within 100 yards, odd chance at a 125 yard shot. And yes it does have a stout recoil. Perhaps I should lighten the powder and bullet weight. If I was hunting Rhio I would have to go with a .500 or .600 NE though, not my Encore.

I use the 250 grain Barnes and shoot sub-moa groups with Triple 7 loose of 120 grains. Very consistent around 2216 fps. Same load shoots just as good out of my Omega also. Just my opinion but don't think you need the 300 grain for whitetails.

I agree thats what I posted in the beginning 100 Grains and a 250 Shockwave or 295 Powerbelt will do the job on deer, moose or elk.

Sorry, didn’t mean to offend you with the Rino comment, had a few beers and was being a smarta#$.
Anyway, I’ve killed no small amount of deer with a load of 70 grs of 777 and a 250 gr Barns MZ, out to about 130 yards. Muzzleloaders kill by tissue destruction and blood loss, doesn’t matter if the bullet rips through the vitals at 1000 fps or 2000fps, the end result is the same.
Mz- not a problem, I actaully thought your comment was pretty good. The load I use to shoot out of my CVA was 100 grains of 777 with a 240 grain XTP. 2 out of the 3 deer I hit with that combo dropped in their tracks. Guess I just wanted to play around with a shoulder mounted howitzer.
Hoyt19... it appears that you are "pulling" your shots, since they are grouped to the right of the target. I shoot the same load, except I use Hogdan Pyrodex and the same bullet. You should be at least touching the 2nd box.
It does take some practice!
When I elk hunt, I will sight in dead-on at 200 yards! And that's using my cheapy .50 cal CVA 209 and will put a group on the top of a Dr Pepper can!
From one Hoyt guy to another and a T/C guy to another, lol I would highly recommend shooting a 250 grain shockwave with around 100 grains of powder, give or take a little for your exact gun. I'm currently shooting an Omega with 2 hodgen pellets down the barrel and a 250 grain shockwave and am grouping the size of a silver dollar at 100 yards. Try this load out of your T/C and I do not think you will be disappointed. I also swab between every shot.
