a decent startup gun

I'm looking at muzzleloaders but since I'll only be using it a few times a year I don't need a top of the line gun and I don't want to spend a fortune.

Any suggestions?

Check out the lower end Thompson ML's. I want to say that they have an Omega that starts around $250.

Dont know if wal mart still carries them or not, but the tc black diamonds are great muzzleloaders for the money.

Look at the break overs. They are ten times easier to clean. Trust me on this one. Ive had several inlines and for the cheaper rifles youve got to work to clean them. The breakovers are like cleaning a single shot shotgun.

Personally id say take a look at the NEF (New England Firearms) ML. They are awesome accurate and great guns.

You can also look at CVA Optima. Youre looking at roughly $200 for either one. (give or take a little). If that is still to rich for your blood try the CVA Wolf. The triggers are junk but they are plenty accurate. They too have a 1/28 twist rate. It basically is a cheaper model of the Optima from what I can tell. They are just over $120.

Those are the only Inline guns I would consider right now. If it wasnt one of those it would have to be a break over.

Simple: Get a TC Omega and you will not be disappointed. You can get the stainless barrel camo stock thumbhole for 399.00 right now. Awesome gun, do a search for Omega and see all the great reviews

Muggs, Reward has one for sale in the classified sectioin, 45 cal. Knight disc elite for 100.00. Seems like a heck of deal for that gun, and to me, a 45 cal is not that much different than a 50 cal if you are going to only use it a couple of times a year. Might want to take a look at it.

I'd jump all over the Knight .45 in the classifieds. Heck, I might anyway, and I have four ML's already! I have that gun in stainless, and it's a bit more of a pain to clean than a break open, but it's a shooter!!!! I am using 3-50 grain Pyro pellets and a powerbelt and have outstanding groups out past 150...

If I didn't get that knight, I would probibly go with the nef. They are very reliable, my 3 are very accurate, and the price is great.

Also, if you need/want another caliber I would go ahead and get the NEF Rifle and then get the ML barrel for it. They are only $85 and you can have the trigger adjusted to 3lbs for free when you send the reciever in to havethe barrel fitted.
