hunting bullets

What bullets would you all suggest I use for deer hunting this fall? This will be my first year ever muzzleloader hunting.

There are a huge variety of quality bullets on the market that will work well. I have had great acuracy from the Hornady XTP, but I did not like the sparse blood trail they provided. I shot Great Plains conicals in the beginning, but I like something that shoots a little flatter. I tried the Powerbelts but none of the seven different .50 cal muzzleloaders shot them well.

I shoot the SST in my Savage but only because it has a high BC and is used in my long range ML that shoots a lot faster than the standard inlines with magnum charges. It's also fairly hard to load.

In most of my muzzleloaders, I have been extremely pleased with the QT40 and the Dead Centers from Precision Rifle. Cabelas also sells these under their name. They are superbly accurate and have great performance on game. I have taken a few dozen deer with them over the past 5 years or so and I am hooked.

I use these . I've gotten really good accuracy, great penetration and blood trail. I hit a doe two weeks ago at 180 yards. It had a good pass through with good expantion. I had a good bit of blood at the point of impact and a clear trail.

Using 240 grain tc xtp mags here. Been really happy with them.

I shoot the TC Shockwave 250 gr, a 175 gr round ball as well as a 375 Maxi ball. All group well but all have their disadvantages. Some bigger than others.

Whatever bullet you can get to shoot well in YOUR rifle is my first thought. Any of the 200+ grain 44/45cal bullets and sabot combinations made will kill deer without much trouble (if placed well). The other option is a full caliber bullet like a Powerbelt, Great Plains, etc and these will suffice for most deer hunters out to 100yds or so.

Im using the Power Belt Bullets by CVA, in 295 Gr. with two 777 pellets

Last year my favorite was the 240gr xtp. Good accuracy and killed two deer with them. I tried several in consequtivly (sp) heavier weights. I finally tried 300 gr xtps in a Harvester crush rib sabot and got great accuracy. I then killed a dow several weeks ago with this set up and recovered the bullet It did not hit bone but mushroomed to nearly 64 caliber and traveled about 2 1/2 feet from the front shoulder to the lower rear ham where I found it. To say I was impressed is an understatement.
