no scope

i spent a few hours sun sighting in my new tc omega and was very suprised how i did with open sights. with christmas coming i could not afford a scope for this season. at 50 yards i was able to repeatedly shoot in a 6 inch circle,and 100 yards was a little bigger but here in ct where i hunt i will probably not shoot over 60 yards. with knowing how accurate new ml are, next season i will have a scope!

i to decided to wait on a scope when i bought my encore 2 years ago...i still don't have one on there...and after this year...i don't think i ever will....i am pretty consistant out to 100 yards, where i hunt i won't be shooting past 70 yards or so...i took my first deer last week using the open sights on my encore and it was about a 60 yard shot..and he only went 60-65 yards after the shot...after that, i am hooked on open sights

I use a T/C factory Peep Sight on my Black Diamond M/L.

Here in Colorado--it's illegal to use a muzzle-loadedr with a scope. Only iron sites can be used. I've taken elk & muleys @ 100yards without a problem. It kind of takes you back to the "Jeremiah Johnson" era. CB

I just sighted in my T/C Black Diamond with open sights at 55 yards, all 3 shots were within 7" or so I'd say. T/C's sights are clear and bright, pretty easy to use.

We are resricted to 1X scopes here in WI. Let me tell you, a deer at 100 yards looks like an ant thru the very best scope made at 1X.

I do not feel too badly handicapped with irons however as they are capable of fine accuracy...to any distance one might contemplate shooting with a smokestick. My preference for deeper woods are the std patridge style, fiber optic sights where a very long shot might be 100-125yds. For more open or mature hardwoods or in the ridges, give me a receiver mounted peep and a 1/16" whte front bead. I can state in all seriousness that the one ML I have so set up rivals most scoped rifles that I see at our sight-in clinic. The only difference is that I must look the animal over closely with hand held optics as opposed to optics mounted on the rifle.

open sights is the only thing i have ever known and loved,even better on a TC.Give me a open sight any day over a scope.

Scopes are legal on ML here. No way would I prefer open sights over a scope. I know my eyes aren't as good as they once were. My Black Diamond is sighted in at 100 yards and shoots consistent 1 1/2" groups.
If I couldn't group better than 7" at 55 yards I would throw that gun away! Given shot angles, that would equate to about 24" at 100 yards.

Hate to be the bearer of a totally differing opinion, but his 7" group on a broadside deer will kill every one he shoots at, at that distance or closer.

Some folks out there can actually shoot irons better than many folks will ever shoot a scope. Yep, tis true. You shoot whatever you are comfortable with or are restricted to by game laws.

Guess you missed my point. Agreed 7" would be an acceptable margin IF the gun were held steady and within the 55 yard range. But given an offhand shot under tension of seeing a deer and perhaps misjudging the distance a little, I wouldn't accept this.
Just my opinion. A small waver and the 7" could become 14" or entirely out of the kill zone. Now we have a wounded deer.

I would spend a little cash and put a red dot on it. Your target aquisition is instant (faster than open sights) and you can pick one up for around $30.

There is no way I would shoot at a deer if passed 30 yards if I was getting a 7" group at 50.
