Default Block Target Is Going Bad Already!!!

Now mind you I have not shot anywhere close to 10,000 hits into this thing! Probably shot about 200 hits with just my broadheads and about 1000 with the field tips. Those numbers are also probably high as well. But here is what is happening now!

Arrows are now showing through the other side!

Target is really getting shredded up!

BTW, I have the BH and FT hitting the same spot! That first picture has a big hole from the BH's! Shooting well, cant say that about my target anymore! I was hitting the black circles really well, but after this long shooting session I started to throw them around a bit! I figured it was time to stop when my arm started shaking! LOL!

What is the best Broadhead target???

Turn it around and start shooting the other side John. You might just get a few more rounds out of it.

Yeah, once you start burying the fletchings, it starts getting a bit expensive on arrow fletchings.

Yeah I was going to do that but I am just a little ticked off because this target is not holding up as well as they claim! Dont get me wrong! Its a great target for FT's! But no way for BH's!

I don't care what anybody says, the block targets are not meant for broadheads....and both the block and black hole don't stand up to field points like I expected either.......their new 6-sided target may be the way to go......but there's also some great broadhead targets out there now........I suggest getting one for each....a target for broadheads and one for field points...

The block is an awesome target, and will definately last like they say it will....until you start shooting broadheads at it. No layered foam target will last with broadheads. I'm actually surprised it looks that good after 200 BH's. Morrel makes a broadhead target called the Yellow Jacket. $39 at Cabelas. Well worth the money. Hold up very well to broadheads. This is the second year of my bro and I shooting fixed blade heads into it, and it is no worse for the wear.

Tedicast, you must have gotten an exceptional block target then, because I know I didn't get a couple thousand shots out of mine with field points and it was sinking arrows past the fletchings........all the clubs in our area are getting rid of their Block target butt set-ups and going with a different manufacturer....they just don't hold up, even when flipped or rotated.........now mine, was the smaller, totable model, so I imagine the depth compared to the big blocks was an issue, but man, it still should have lasted longer than it did.........it was amazing when i first got it, the arrow stopping is great, but after owning one, I'm just not that impressed.....I mean they last longer than a bag target, but at least bags are alot cheaper to replace....

Like I said, if i was gonna go with a Block now, it would be their new six sided target......that would probably be worth the investment....

I forgot abou that Morrell jellow Jacket....supposed to be the cat's meow (sorry JB, LOL)

yep--i agree. Broadheads just tear them up. Take a ratchet strap and wrap it around the block and tighten the ratchet up---that will compress the foam and give your target more life.

    good luck

Iminrut...My bro and I have been shooting at a block that he bought in 2003. It sits in his yard all year around. It is getting to the point now where certain sections will sink you pretty close to the fletch. Never had a pass through though.

I never thought that layered foam over solid foam was a "better" target medium to start with.
I mean its alreay 1/2 seperated before the very 1st shot!
Self healing foam is 100x better IMO.
"Layered Foam Technology" is just the target industries new gimic.

Shoot broadheads into anything and it get cut up not punctured so it will break down and fail a lot faster.
Shoot them into a layer foam target and all your doing is adding different plain cuts along with foam thats already cut up.
    Fails even faster.

I would never spend the money on those type of targets.
    Again, JMO

Excellent tip Todd........I actually ended up cutting the bands on my block, removing the bad sections, and then doing just like you described.......but I guess if I'd have just done that to begin with, it probably would have saved me the mess and the extra work, LOL.....

There is no target out there that will take the cutting from broadheads. Some may last longer than others, but not by a whole lot. I use big pieces of styrofoam that can only be shot and turned so many times.

Those who market these targets are very careful around the number of broadhead hits their product can take.
