I usually go over to the deer, after I have hooted and hollered, and just have me a sit down next to it, thank the lord, and think about the drag out. The first deer I ever killed got me crying like a baby lol. I'll never forget that moment.

I just walk up and spend a few moments admiring the animal. You know just take a few moments before starting to gut it to take a real good look and thank god for a wonderful hunt and lately ive been real thankfull for recovering an animal after a run of real bad luck.
Like Horst said ...Kind of admire it for a few minutes, thank the Lord for a successful shot and hunt and then pray for the strength to drag it out.
First I make sure it is DEAD! Then I usually say a prayer or two or three and say thankyou to the Lord about 20 times. Then I get down to the admiring part I haven't shot a big buck yet either so we'll have to see how that goes, lol!
Put a piece of pine tree in its mouth and say a prayer.

after i shoot it i start yelling and get excited then i go get the four wheeler and gut the animal and take it out.
No matter whether a buck or doe, I take the time to admire and get my thoughts together. Then I remember I have to gut this thing! I hate that part!!

i thank everything in sight, including God. then i usually stroke its fur, admire it, sometimes i've hugged them believe it or not.
then reality hits and you realize you have to gut and drag it.
