Default Rubber O-Ring On Rocket Broadheads....

Well, I was doing a little testing today. With the rubber o-ring in the factory slot on a 100 grain Rocket Sidewinder, pulling a piece of standard computer paper over it does not open the head. HOWEVER, by moving the rubber o-ring down a little bit on the blades (out of the factory groove and just over the edge of the blade) pulling a piece of paper over the head with very little pressure at all full opens the blades.

Does anyone shoot the Rockets like this? Are the blades more prone to open in flight if shot like this? I was just curious because even though I am sure the blades will open and leave an entrance hole using them the standard way, moving the rubber ring down a tad guarantees they open on impact and leave an entrance hole.

I use the sledgehammer and the hammerheads for turkey. I've not had a problem with them opening. I would be afraid by moving the bands down they will open during fight and sent your arrow off target.

I have never had a problem with the steelheads. The O ring was 1/4 way up on the shaft. I would use them the way they are directed

I have used both the 100gr Hammerheads and the Steel heads by Rocket, and left the rubber bands set at what the factory suggested. They have already done the R&D on those heads, so I'd leave them as is!! They'll work fine!! Remember, a bad hit with "ANY" broadhead isn't any good!!! But a well placed shot with a Rocket mechanical, and you'll see the deer drop within sight!!

Leave the o ring in the factory slot. Its designed to hold the blade closed at the shot.
Believe me bro it WILL open and leave one heck of an enterance wound.
I have taken several deer with that extact head and many more with the 125g version.
    Great broadhead for sure.

Leave the o ring in the slot. I have shot with them lower to see the result, and every time they opened in flight and caused the arrow to fly wild.

My experience with Rocket heads (both the Sidewinder and Steelhead) has been that the entrance holes look like exit holes! I guess what I'm saying is leave the o-ring where it was designed to go and you've got no worries. The paper test is nice, but doesn't model what happens when you punch into hide.
