Heart pumping opening day...

No, I didn't get to shoot but I sure thought I was going to get a chance. And that made for a fun filled day.

My heart was racing several times as deer wandered my way but they never came within my range of 30 yards or less.

I saw 8 deer total. 3 by 8am and 5 just after sundown. Also had a turkey come within 10 yards and since I have a tag, had it been Oct. 1st, I would have tried for that bugger with the bow.

Of the deer I saw, one of them was one of the biggest does I've ever seen and another was one of the smallest bodied spikes I've ever seen.

Having never shot a deer with the bow, any of them would have been in trouble had they come in range. The spike actually came the closest and really had me trying to calm myself. He seemed to be tagging along with the big doe and her two little ones and she didn't like it. She kept trying to chase him away, swinging at him with her hoves. This is what almost caused him to come within range but then he turned to follow the big doe.

Anyway, it was a FUN first day after no bowhunting for 20+ years! I'm confident I'll get a shot opportunity before its all over.

Going out again this afternoon for a bit...I'm too pumped to wait for next Sat. ~L~

Its raining here now but supposed to stop before I get off work. Hoping to catch some deer coming out to feed. I'm set up along the neighbors field which is part corn and part something else. All planted just for the deer.

Cool story hope you get a shot a deer with the bow its a rush you will never forget to get your first bow kill.

it's not even opening day here and your great story has me pumped...scouted a new place this evening and saw a dozen deer....had 3 bucks...a spike,3 point and a nice little 820 yards of me then had 2 does and 2 fawns 10 yards...then 2 does bedded at the edge of the field and woods...about 100 yards out....then2 more bucks came out about 125yards but could not tell how big they were ...best of luck with your season...
